I really liked your video but as a career Investment Analyst, I must correct you in your choice of term which simply grinds my gears each time I hear it: The definition of an Investment is: a capital outlay that produces a cash-flow. If it does not produce a cashflow, it's a speculation or an expense. What you should be saying is something like: The features justifies the expense or something to that effect. No malice intended.

Hi Matthias another great video. Have you compared the 15+ to the 18+? Is there much difference. I have a 15+ and considering getting 18+. Do you know if there is much difference as far as how much more of a macro shot you can get.

Ace pro 2 is useless, as it heats up too much inside and when you then go in colder environements the lens fog up from inside ! So I am very disapointed. Under water it must be the same ...

Glad you enjoyed it mate. Not always easy to get hold of many different gear components for testing so I'm relying a little bit on what manufacturers are willing to supply for testing and reviewing. I just can't buy everything out of my own pocket unfortunately.

@@MatthiasLebo I can totally understand it (can't buy all that gear & if nobody sends you stuff). I was also referring to the stream of action cam content and tips&tricks. But probably you get more interest for that content than the A7SIII & Red etc content/ tips & tricks...

Great video Matthias! Currently trying to convince myself that it makes sense to buy such a huge light because I'd love to use it. Do they have a smaller version with the integrated blue light filter?
@MatthiasLebo7 күн бұрын
Thank you Carlo. The light is actually not THAT big. Well I guess it depends on what kind of setup you're using it. Kinda big on a GoPro, but works very well even there. 😉 No, they don't have a smaller one with the ambient blue filter integrated. But they might in the future. They have an 4X light which is basically half the size. So I can see them coming up with something along those lines. We'll see. The future will tell... Hope you're guys are doing well?

Do you think that Keldan is interested in a WRGBU light any time soon, or is that too gimmicky for their target market? You know I have a love-hate relationship with my Krakens, but that feature is a pure joy that I can’t ever go back from!
@MatthiasLebo7 күн бұрын
I don't know Rebecca, but my gut is telling me: NO! I can not see people using KELDAN lights being interested too much in this. I can imagine you'd have to sacrifice some other features in order to include that into the lights and I'm pretty sure that wouldn't wanna go down that path. Sorry Rebecca...

First of all, I’d like to thank both of you for reviewing my video. I’m really glad you liked it! Since this review came up rather spontaneously during a trade show meeting with Matthias and there wasn’t much background information, I’d like to clarify a few points: The underwater scenes were 80% filmed by me using a Canon EOS R5 in a Seacam housing. I also included some footage from a colleague, which was shot with a Sony A7S III. Most scenes were filmed in 4K at 60 fps, with some in 4K at 120 fps. The aerial shots were also captured in 4K at 60 fps. The drone footage is 50% mine and 50% from our third team member, recorded with a DJI Mavic 3 Pro. The entire concept, story, and post-production were created by me for WIRODIVE and the Sea Explorers. The footage was taken in February/March 2024. A quick note on lighting: The comment from @tylerdenaro845 are correct that guides generally discourage the use of artificial lights or flashes. All shots in this video were captured without artificial lighting. The lights and strobes you see in the video were only used to maintain the underwater setup and trim. No lights were actively used. For my Canon EOS R5, I always used manual white balance combined with a Keldan Spectrum filter, and I shot in Canon Log profile. Now to the points raised by Matthias and Sebastian: Lighting: As mentioned, it’s “officially” not allowed to use artificial lighting, so I had to rely on the available natural light. Color Matching: The less colorful clips - with two exceptions - were all taken with the Sony A7S III by my colleague. Since he uses automatic white balance, the colors unfortunately couldn’t be fully matched during post-production. Additionally, some scenes were filmed at different dive sites or from less favorable angles, which didn’t showcase the reef’s vibrant colors. You’re absolutely right, though: better transitions and filler footage could have been used to smooth things out. Thank you for the feedback - I’ll keep this in mind for future projects. Sound Design: This is an area where I’m a bit disappointed in myself. I’ve been focusing on sound design intensively for quite some time and put a lot of effort into it, so it’s a shame that it didn’t come across as strongly in this video. Please feel free to watch the video again with headphones - it should be more noticeable then. But thank you for your constructive criticism! I’ll definitely work on emphasizing this more in the future. Voice-over: The voice-over was just that - a voice-over. There was no accompanying video, as the speaker unfortunately didn’t want to appear on camera. And Matthias: If Sebastian doesn’t want to join in - I’m in! 🤣 Jokes aside, maybe there’ll be an opportunity to collaborate on a project in the future. Or I could visit you at your studio in Switzerland, and we could discuss the Malapascua project with all the (tech) details and footage. 😉

Are you using a macro lens for the close up shots? (clown fish & mantis shrimp)?
@garobi12 күн бұрын
Honestly, i am not that convinced. When you zoom in, just a bit, the resolution gets pretty poor. Everything that is not right in the center is quite blurry. In the beginning I thought the camera doesn't work properly, as the footage of the one x2, i had bevor, was way better. The support said: "In order to provide better underwater stealth and underwater stitching effects, the diving case of X4 has been adjusted compared to X2, and the clarity may be slightly weaker than X2." So in reviews it should be mentioned, that there is a big difference in image quality compared to a normal action cam as the ace pro 2 for example. On the other hand, the possibilities you have with the 360 features itself are awesome!

I'm very curious to know how long ago this was shot.. I literally just left Malapascua this morning from being there for one week, and none of the dive shops to my knowledge allow any artificial lighting on the Thresher dives. They say it scares the sharks away.

Hi, congratulations on the video review.... It’s very useful.... I’ll be in the Maldives in a while and I’ll take photos proraw and videos 4k 60fps in a 30-metre dive with iPhone 16 pro, divevolk seatouch 4 max plus and 1 LetonPower L12 8000 Lumens diving torch... do you say it will be good as a setting to take photos and quality like the videos shown in this video of yours? I’m undecided whether or not to take an arm to move the flashlight away, in order to avoid backscattering..... what do you think? Thanks a lot

Mathias, perhaps it is time for an updated review of the Oceanic+ Dive Housing for iPhone. On my trip to Little Cayman, after updating the app, the housing performed very well. The new photo correction is superb. Please give it another try and let us know what you think. They seem to have finally gotten a lot of the bugs out and made the device much more user friendly. Would be nice if the Zoom could function in both directions but that is a small detail.

I have dove Malapascua and they don't allow the use of lights. If I understand it correctly, it's a rule from the government. So the lighting is all natural I believe.

Also, now you really only see Threshers @ Kimud Shoal. Typically you will do 2 dives at Kimud Shoal for the Threshers and 1 dive @ Monad Shoal in hopes to see a Tiger shark. Kimud is covered in coral and you really only get to 20m depth. Monad is predominantly sand with a few corals scattered periodically, I forget what the max depth is but it seemed shallower.

Hi Matthias, Thank you for your fun and informative videos-they’ve been a great help in planning my underwater adventures! I’m considering the Divevolk SeaTouch 4 Max Platinum with my iPhone 16 Pro Max as a compact option for underwater video and photography. It’s great for travel and allows me to use apps like Filmic Pro, BlackMagic, Moment, and Halide. Divevolk offers several lenses, and I’m wondering which is the most versatile. For example, how would you handle capturing a Nudibranch (Macro), an Eagle Ray passing by, or a wide reef landscape? Also, since Macro shots might need extra lighting (no red filter) and wide shots benefit from a red filter, what’s the best solution given you can only use one filter at a time? Can you switch lenses underwater? I’d love to hear your recommendations!
@MatthiasLebo7 күн бұрын
Yes you can switch lenses underwater. I recommend getting a red filter and wide angle conversion lens and stack them on top of each other. Use the filter and wide angle conversion lens together for wide angle shots (no lights) and slide it to the side and turn on your light(s) when filming macro or mid range shots, where your lights are filling the entire scene. Hope that helps.

@MatthiasLebo18 күн бұрын
@rebeccadarling5894 oh so sorry to hear that Rebecca. Are you still running an intel chip? I think you need an Apple M chip to be able to use those features as they are very intense on the processor. And even though you won't like hearing this, but a 5 year old laptop nowadays does kind of qualify as "vintage". Not that I approve of that concept or like it myself, but it is a reality unfortunately. 😔
