I have a question on the NKJV and the paragraphing. At times you'll find the NJKV has split the verses where the NASB has them all in a longer paragraph. What's the basis of NKJV for such a paragraph format?

@@victorgenga2920 All of the paragraph breaks were placed by the original Translation Committee. As publisher, I have never instituted a change in those breaks and, to my knowledge, none of my predecessors did either. It was part of the Committee's original work and we have left it according to their decisions.

@@philipnation8035 thank you for the timely response. I wanted to know what guided the paragraphing. And you've answered my question Sir. Keep doing the good work for the Kingdom of God. Thank you.

I Have the full color KJV Thomas Nelson study bible, it’s very dear to my heart as it was the first bible I ever owned. It’s been with me through the death of my dad and other loved ones. I have old cards taped in the back as well. It’s my forever bible. ❤❤

This was great. Appreciate the work TN does. They are my bible publisher of choice. The premier collection is such a blessing to read. Can’t wait for the Sovereign premier coming this year.

Great conversation. I agree, TN have been wonderful custodians of the KJB. You were right to call out the Sovereign and “baby” Maclaren as particularly worthy of praise, two of my favourite KJBs of recent years.

Although I enjoy many translations, the NKJV has remained my favorite over the years. Thomas Nelson Bibles keep getting better and better, and are still (happily) quite affordable.

Well, Tim, you know I love my KJV but I have to say Thomas Nelson publishes THE BEST NKJVs hands down for me. I've tried a few premium NKJVs but Thomas Nelson always wins. I think it's their font is so easy to read. I have their premium red goatskin KJV and the Maclaren and Sovereign in both NKJV & KJV, along with some of their premier collection. Thomas Nelson is an excellent publisher and so accessible. I love that they champion those translations. One thing I like about the NASB and CSB is how the quote the Old Testament in the New Testament, that would be cool. And I like capitalizations for deity.

Nice talk. Nelson Bibles are the bomb. Especially love my blue letter Maclaren and the paragraph KJV. I replaced my "Baby Mac" with a teal leathersoft Compact EOV NKJV. Perfect for me. I need VBV in my EDC, whether I grab KJV or NKJV that day. Paragraph for reading, VBV for speaking/preaching/teaching, which is why I carry a Bible everywhere. A sharper, better balanced sword, so to speak. My son was more than happy to take the Baby Mac off my hands, haha.

Okay, I'm overdosing on letters here. What is EOV?
@guymontag349
@guymontag349 11 күн бұрын
@ EOV means "end of verse". The references appear at the end of each verse, rather than in a center column, or bottom of the page, or in the margins. You don't get as many references this way, but it makes for a very pleasant, non-distracting read. It is my favorite method of presenting references, Thomas Nelson uses the EOV method in their Open Bible as well as some other editions.

I love my "baby" Macleran! Cheers to whoever did the wonderous work of making a smaller print clearer to read than my ESV Compact Large Print, which was a size larger. I don't understand how that math works out. I am just happy it does! My old, tired, screen ravaged eyeballs are getting worse all the time. But I can read this one comfortably. Maybe one day that will change and I will have to find a new home for it. But for now (and hopefully a long while) it's fantastic.

Thank you Tim. Lots to learn; I didn't realize how complicated publishing especially new typesets was. The Nkjv has always been my favorite translation & their bibles my pick. Now that I've returned to my Catholic faith after 40 years I only really want to invest in CE versions or with Apocrypha. I do like the Words of Christ in color whether red or blue. Especially since I started watching you & the Tim's I want pretty bibles 😅. Thank you again.

Fascinating interview. I have a NKJV Large Print Outreach New Testament by Thomas Nelson. I check to see the differences with my copy of the NRSV when I am reading. The copy I have cost like 2 bucks and is on almost a newspaper quality paper. A lot of outreach Bibles with the small print are worthless. The one Thomas Nelson I have is really good.

As far as non primium bibles go, yeah Thomas Nelson is way better than other options I think. Like you said even for the paper, and in the cheaper options the paper is still good. Also I do like how they make the kjv & nkjv editions almost as pairs a lot of the time.

Yes, yes, a thousand times yes. The Old Scofield has been very poorly served in recent years (the current OUP editions are a disgrace). A much loved Bible, long overdue for a Thompson Chain Reference style refresh in Comfort Print.

Interesting convo.I have a question, Im wondering if you know whether Nelson KJV Bibles are actually based on the 1769 Blayney revision? Not necessarily the point of this video but I am interested to know which edition they really print for their KJV Bibles.. I have been trying to confirm for sure if that is the case or not. Most say yes, but i have heard that there are some differences in places.
@anickelsworthbiblereviews

Am I weird, but I like my double-column KJV paragraph bibles. FWIW, I did have a Nelson paragraph KJV - dunno if I've still got it, but I bought it like 5 or 6 years ago. It was from like right before the font switch, which is probably why it was being clearanced.

If Thomas Nelson wants to invest in Bibles to last a long time, they should stop doing paper linings and do vinyl instead.
@anickelsworthbiblereviews
@anickelsworthbiblereviews 11 күн бұрын
They do, but there is an upcharge for that. Every upgrade has a price.
@caomhan84
@caomhan84 11 күн бұрын
I agree with this. I have several from the early '90s as well as the early 2000s and even the cheaper ones had vinyl liners. They seem to have gone away from that, and put paper linings in the Bibles that are less than $69.99. Vinyl liners cannot be that much more expensive. They just cannot. I refuse to believe it.... You're already making your leathersoft cover out of synthetic anyway... So just put the liner as the same thing. What I think they're doing is intentionally putting the paper liners even on nicer editions In order to push people toward the genuine leather and above price point. As a business decision, I get it. I understand. But I just wish they would stop doing it. Those paper liners begin to crack in a week or so if you read your Bible daily. You really have to baby it. Which I guess is the point: it'll break down faster, which means you have to buy another, or step up to the more expensive option. Ah well.

I wish they would allow more publishers rights to print the NKJV.
@anickelsworthbiblereviews

There are several. Humble Lamb, Schuyler, Zondervan, and for many years Holman. The issue is these other publishers want to prioritize their own translation. Most publishers who are not promoting their own translation and just print bibles don’t seem to have any trouble getting rights to print the NKJV.
