Just so you know, that is not a temp sensor. It is a heating element that the computer uses to open the thermostat. The computer controls when the thermostat opens. The act of the coolant heating the wax capsule is a backup method. The two temp sensors are located on the bottom radiator hose and on the back drivers side of the head.
@Iceeeen4 жыл бұрын
Close but not exactly. It normally opens at the stamped 93c but the ecu will sometimes open it earlier with the heating element. As exmaple if it feels you are pulling up a long hill or the oiltemp is getting a bit hot it can open up as early as 73c

Worked in a BMW shop for 11 years. Getting the fan clutch off takes about two minutes. Long wrench and whack it on the end with a hammer. Done it a million times.
@andrewkiwi14 жыл бұрын
Ok JR i worked a euro car shop . I made a tool. Basically made the end of a wrench out of 12mm steel with a 12mm hole in the side of it about 4 inches from the side of the nut. Then the handle out of 3'' by 1/2'' about 3 ft long with another small piece welded across the top. Then you bolt them together. Now you fit it so the wrench is at about 90*and bash the thing with a 4lb club hammer. It works every time but if it doesn't you get the large Channel locks polygrips to hold the handle and get a friend to bash it. This keeps your soft little hands out of the firing line should he be a bad shot. This something else the you have to watch on these when you get your new pump. Some of the after market and genuine ones have a cast plastic impellor. We had a run of them where the impellor split and came away from the shaft. So the pump turns but doesn't do anything. It doesn't even make a noise. Those motors also have green cardboard pan gaskets that break up come out the side with some of the oil. Then theres the head bolts that pull the thread out of the block when you torque the head down during a head gasket job. The engine shop made a 2'' thick block of steel with 6 holes in it to the same dimensions as the headgasket with slightly bigger bolt holes. Helicoils were too short and pull out too so you have to go up to 18 or 20 mm metric coarse as a fine thread of the same diameter will pull out too. They made their own inserts with the fine thread on the inside from threaded rod. The insert are loctited in and you assemble the head as normal. We had to tow an x5 off a flat wet lawn with one of the company loan cars. The tyre combinations all width and flat faced tyres are useless offroad.
