Cowboys Nation should be optimistic, this is the best coaching staff they've had since Parcells. Do ur research, and not thru the media. Schotty has quietly put a staff together to address all the weaknesses the team has. Playoff losses came from not running the ball, not Dak. NO QBs are successful being one dimensional. Schotty and Adams run the ball, Adams always improve the run game. The draft talent is deep enough in the Cowboys need to get contrbutors all the way to the 5th rd in RB and DT. This is the most talented team Schotty has coached.He made R. Wilson look elite, Luck, Pennington, and Sanchez had career yrs under Schotty. The best part is that he's not trying to build his brand like all those other"hot list coaches" are, he's concntrating on building a winning roster. Cowboys could have "a pocket full of money" ($100 million) by flipping switches in Dak, & CeeDee's contract & signing Micha now. The problem is they don't use void years properly. They structure big contracts where they save money one year and add it into the next season's cap hit. Leaving less money for FA. Void years allow you to spread the money out. What the Jones boys are afraid of is paying higher amounts at the end of a contract and being in "cap hell" for a season.

A top capologist should have been their top offseason acquisition. Then replacing Mike McCarthy which i believe was very important to do. A top capologist would really help The Cowboys join the teams that are having more "postseason" success and allow for them to have a good head coach, rather than "needing" a great head coach. I mean The Chiefs and Eagles are also draft/develop organizations, but they both do a better job of identifying needs and solving some of those needs via free agency. In the case of The Chiefs there is certainly a great head coach/qb combo in place but in the case of The Eagles, i'm not sure that's what we are seeing. The Siriani/Hurts duo is not what i would consider "great but they do have a winning model. It's a duo i think Schottemheimer/Prescott can match, if The Cowboys front office address it's free agency deficiencies. They already have the draft/develop part down in my view. They are a top regular season win organization over the last 30, 20, and 10 seasons. The head coaches for the most part have been fine(Parcells, Phillips, Garrett, and McCarthy) A couple of bumps but for the most part good coaches. Qb play has been fine with Romo and Dak over the last nearly 15 seasons. A couple of tough seasons with poor qb play but for the most part they've been fine at that position. Solve that capologist issue so you can address the running game, the offensive line, and defensive line!

It wasn't the same team. The week after Dak got hurt, many players who were injured on defense (and offense) returned to the lineup. Dak didn't have nearly as much of the lineup as those who were healthy after his injury.

They committed more to the running game and the play calling was simplified for the backup qb. In terms of "why or how" they stayed in games, the defense improved over time as they got more acclimated to Zimmer's complex scheme. Cooper Rush is a fine backup qb to Dak Prescott and should probably remain the main backup to Dak but he's a backup. I think the most positive takeaway from the later part of the season is that The Cowboys clearly have good character guys that have some personal pride. They continued to play hard. So how to get to the NFC Championship with Dak Prescott as the qb? Offense: Simplify the offensive play calling(not the scheme, you actually want complexity scheme-wise and less predictability) commit to running the ball more(including on obvious passing downs) be prepared to go on even more 4th and short downs(modern football strategy) try to find more explosive plays(either via adding a secondary wr or explosive rb via the draft) hire a new offensive line coach. Defense: Get back to creating turnovers and trying to lead the league in turnover margin. Commit to using speed/quickness and run blitzes, to stop opposing running games. Try to lead the league in minimizing yrds per carry. Fix the communication issues on defense, if you are blitzing why are the corners so far off the wr's?......way too many players in chase mode in the middle of the field. Crossing routes were killing The Cowboys. Decide if you will be zero, single high, or cover 2 as the main foundation of the defense. I will say Eberflus is primarily a cover two guy who uses shell coverages and gets guys to run to the ball, very similar to Fangio's style. This is also Zim's scheme but the one difference i think is the emphasis on creating turnovers. This seems to be a real emphasis for Eberflus. This team can get to the NFC Championship game but everything has to click!
