Huge thanks Grant for putting me on, this was a blast to do! It turns out the Russet question wasn't even the scene I was thinking of, the one where Raynor's mom is cooking IS her making a salad with tubers which is what first came to mind. The Shiloh Russet appears in The Fightin SceeVees where Raynor's peeling one when he's denying his SCVs vacation leave. True lore facts! But I'll never live the Shiloh Russet down. I will say on the wiki while I wrote a lot of the modern stuff, I basically inherited it from Hawki and PsiSeveredHead who are the loremasters who came before me. So credit to them for keeping it together in the old days since it's a wiki that's existed since the wikia/wikipedia split (fun fact StarCraft was one of the pages deemed too descriptive on Wikipedia and we were told to trim it down or scoot to a new wiki host, back before that was a common thing). Big credit to MarKreations Studios who did like 90% of the VA hunting work to lead us to figure out some of the oddities of BW voice acting and setting the record straight. Whole reason we have that question! The Stukov tattoo was actually partially a promise from Grant's character contest if he won! But also, I was planning on doing that anyway since I got a first level 100 Stukov with a friend in Heroes. No youtube channel but I tend to do stuff more in text, so happy to answer any lore questions on the subreddit! And make sure to donate to TTG to subject Grant to some revenge trivia and keep our GOATed mapmakers making great content.

"Except they are being ordered by the government to do it so it is technically not a crime" You are technically correct, the best kind of correct. Something is only technically a crime if the government deems it to be so, anything else literally doesn't matter. lol Kinda like that Australian solider who we know for a fact murdered a bunch of people in Afghanistan/Iraq and was given medals for it, and the whistleblower who exposed it -got life in prison.- *edit he got 5 years 8 months last May actually, it could have potentially been life though.
@baron20625 ай бұрын
arguably the crime is based on where you commit the crime, not where you are tried for the crime. Its why countries still call people who extradite away criminals, because they literally are at least accused of committing a crime. (and also, probably more relevantly, why so many chinese companies can make obvious fake knockoffs of things, if they were in the US, which if we're using this analogy to mean ghosts, they would be, they would be crimed up, but since they live somewhere else no crimes are being committed)

The US can one-up in general that because there's a law that grants pre-authorisation to invade the Netherlands if any US military or government personnel are put on trial for war crimes at the ICJ in den Haag. So you can imagine what kinds of things it regards as 'not-crimes if we do it'. They also do this for completely petty stuff - one time a US diplomat's wife ran over a teenager in the UK whilst speeding and drunk driving and got airlifted back to the US before she could be charged with anything. The US government proceeded to refuse any extradition requests under the auspices of 'diplomatic immunity', which said wife never possessed, and I'm pretty sure they were just refusing because the idea of anyone associated with the US oligarchy being charged with ordinary people crimes was embarrassing.

Grant being baffled about how little actual time passed in universe for WoL and HotS is about how baffled I was how the Halo trilogy was only a few months or so. Also the reaction to the final answer just gave me a good laugh. Honestly Protoss reproduction could be based around their Psionic abilities, maybe they just combine some of their powers together and coalesce it. A physical body just kind of forms. Given the Protoss themselves sustain themselves via absorbing energy rather than food maybe they also reproduce by fragmenting a part of themselves to manifest what are essentially offspring.
@ofgreyhairwaifu40895 ай бұрын
Halo at least has several games taking place specifically WHILE others are taking place. With Starcraft all the campaigns and missions are explicitly one after the other, which hits way harder when Blizz then say "Yeah it all took like 2 hours, the speedrun is canon"
@hanneswiggenhorn20235 ай бұрын
I feel like the difference with Halo is also the genre. Like, things like the fall of Reach happen in real time, and it's not too infeasible that only little time passes between games. But for starcraft 2, with the different situations and everything, like the dominion war against the zerg in the background we only see via news articles, it feels like the missions alone take place months apart, while you also can't really take the in game actions and time at face value

To strengthen its principles, the UED abandoned the christian calendar and made 1628 its year of choice. So, the question about the Medic's VA, could it have been possible that BOTH did lines for the Medic? It's possible that the lines spoken by the Medic are from one person while the death scream is from another. I bring this up because if you were to look at the casting for Dawn of War 1 and its, you'll find the same name being the voice for multiple different units, like for example Scott McNeil voiced both Lord Bale and Sindri Myr in the original Dawn of War 1 game so when you hear these two lines. "But if you fail me in this..." "Yes, yes, then my suffering will be great, just be ready to move when I instruct" That's Scott McNeil talking to himself because he's voicing both characters.

What I expect happened was both recorded and only one was put in. But since both VAs are very insistent, we don’t have good primary sources to say for sure. Pretty sure the one we got is Tiffany Hayes though.
@cursedhawkins13055 ай бұрын
@@Subsourian Could be, though the other did mention that they specifically hear their own voice when the Medic dies right? So, it could be that maybe in a mix up, the death line from the other VA got used and was never fixed by Blizzard. It makes me remember when Zoey in L4D1 had two voice actors one for the retail version and one for the beta version and you could hear her beta VA speak in the retail version of the game if she called for the rescue vehicle, even when she was ported over to L4D2 you can still here her beta VA under the same conditions.

Enemy Within is great. Niadra is amazing. And I still can't get over how Kerrigan is enough of a bad mother to just abandon her.

The arguement also about the ghost not being a criminal is that theyre technically "non-entity" people since they dont "exist" so there is no person to tag the criminal record on

I'm with subsorian on the ghost thing only because of the technicality that if you commit a crime (like assassination, murder, espionage, etc.) but the government says that you're actually exempt from doing crimes (like the dominion would say about any of their psi-operatives) you're technically not a criminal. Meanwhile a medic doesn't get any of that leniency and the medivac has lore about a medic pilot murdering a bunch of marines for calling her dropship a healbus and that's one more criminal crime on record than any ghosts 👍 See, grant you made a semantics error where you called them a *criminal* rather than a *commiter of crimes*. Ghosts commit war crimes and crimes against humanity all the time, but they're almost never branded as a *criminal* because the dominion gives them a free pass.

The medic has an ability that permanently blinds people. I'm pretty sure that's also a war crime.

I always figured the reason the Dominion finds them with the Umojans is because of the ruckus Kerrigan causes during her little temper tantrum. Given the Dominion shows up like immediately after that mission, I just assumed they must’ve put out a distress signal or some comms got intercepted during the panic.

26:12 If I am not mistaken, in russian localization tileset of the utter darkness is named Shakuras, and I always thought it is logical that protoss last stand would be on their capital planet P.S. That was so cool. Subsourian is the man
@Subsourian5 ай бұрын
So in the tileset it's the same in English, but Shakuras is just the name for the "similar to SC1 Twilight" tileset. A bunch of campaign data in the editor calls it by Ulnar, and the official strategy guide also calls it that. Having said that it's so vague in its own context that honestly it could be Shakuras, though I stand by the theory of "it was a vision crafted by Ouros for Zeratul and Ouros is kinda a liar."

Blizzard has really weird chronology. For example in Warcraft Orcs invaded Azeroth only 86 years ago that's not much time
@cranapple33675 ай бұрын
Well that has to be a short time, since many of the heroes of the Horde were born on Draenor.
@shelcarred16045 ай бұрын
This is incorrect. There was a dev post in the story forums ~2 years ago that went into the timeline because of the SL --> DF timeskip, and it stated that DF starts 40 years after the Dark Portal opened. For reference, TBC was in year 26, MoP was in year 30, and SL started in year 35.
