I have loved this song since way back when! I loved and I lost, who hasn't loved and lost? And who's still listening to this in October 15th 2021?

One of my all time favorites by the Impressions!

It was the summer of '68 I was a 10yr old boy. That was a VERY BUSY time in America, Dr. King was assinated that April, shortly following that was the death of Robert Kennedy and the nation's Urban cities were ablazing with riots etc...My BEST friend Jasper suffered a deep cut to his right wrist and bled very heavy, thank God he didn't bleed to death.....That would have been a very sad moment. Also my Dad answered the call to duty for his country, he arrived in Vietnam in March of '68 and was assigned to the 3rd Bn B co 47th Infantry, 9th Infantry Division. His unit had the assignment of patrolling the muddy water ways and rice paddies of the Mekong Delta of South Vietnam. He survived his 12 month tour of duty...... Thank God!!!......The year 1968 would end on a very GOOD NOTE, America was in a race to reach the Moon. Apollo 8 was the First to orbit the moon and recorded the FIRST EARTH RISE off in the distance and relayed it back to NASA control center where it would be shown on the evening news all across the nation. The crew of Apollo 8 wished America Merry Christmas and said " God Bless the good people on earth."....I watched that historical moment on a black & white TV, that was 24 December 1968....NEVER EVER UNDERESTIMATE AMERICA'S WILL TO RESOLVE AND COME TOGETHER AS A NATION!!

This is Curtis Mayfield at his finest---the strings, those muted trumpets......and the HORNS!! The horns! Johnny Pate's production and arrangements.......pure, pure Chi-town soul. Curtis Mayfield and Johnny Pate were Chicago's Gamble and Huff, or Motown's Holland-Dozier-Holland. You can hear Curtis' guitar chords at the end of the intro, going into his lead vocal....just enough to raise the hair off your arms.......not over-powering....but just enough to move the melody along. Never out in the spotlight.....never a major "star" didn't matter. Curtis Mayfield made a significant mark in R&B and his body of work speaks for itself.
