Yep. When i watch a horror movie in the movie theatre, i almost always get chills cause of the very noticeable vibration in the air, but i am aware that the movie is another cliche piece of garbage. However, watching Nightcrawler or Get Out truly gave me a diffirent feeling that i cant explain.

SCP-5234 Object Class: Safe Containment Protocols: SCP-5234 is to be kept in a small box inside a storage unit at all times. No one is allowed to take the CD at any time unless its for testing. Testing should only be about 30 minutes to an hour of viewing and staff are required to wear noise-cancelling headphones or exit the room with CCTV outside the room, viewing the chamber at all times. Description: SCP-5234 is a typical CD that presents a film made in 2002, which makes the viewers [ *or listeners* ] tend to vomit, feel queasy, and in worse cases, require medical attention.

Infra-sound made an already spooky castle dungeon in- England become the scariest place in Britain. Every time tourists were led into the dungeon, they all complained of feeling really bad "vibes" in the place. Turns out that the castle operators were benefiting form the heavy duty machinery at a nearby factory . The machines were producing infra-sound that traveled through the ground and was felt in the underground dungeon.

It would have been a good joke if the video was talking about how they use “silence” in horror movie soundtracks to build up the tension. Or like when there’s a big explosion and all that’s in the soundtrack is a high pitched frequency to emulate the temporary loss of hearing experienced when that happens. But that’s not what this video was about.

Bianca Robertson OK please enlighten me as to how anything in the video suggests that being deaf/silence is what is making the horror movies have their effect. Because it’s not, it’s only talking about the physical sensations from the ultra low frequencies, which has nothing to do with being deaf (deaf and hearing people would hear/feel those sensations the exact same way).

this discomfort may be a protection that goes back to when humans heard the bass sounds coming from herds, from avalanches, from landslides, from tsunamis or overflowing bodies of water, from rain or storm (the thunder), hurricanes, earthquakes, etc. all those can produce this kind of sound. this discomfort could be a signal to flee and look around.

So February last year I randomly started getting anxiety. Just constant, low level tension. I would wake up feeling slightly sick and go to sleep feeling tense. I also started getting paranoid, that there was someone about to enter my room. It was only five months later I found out they were testing atomic bombs across the road, and it was the low frequency sounds from the explosions that were making me uncomfortable.

Because Gaspar Noé's movies are stereotypical of pretentious "artsy-fartsy" movies that don't cater to the average viewer, so it's actually not statistically incorrect to presume that any given random person hasn't seen it. (In this case, _Irréversible_ wasn't as pretext-laden as say, _Enter the Void_ but it's still no _Avengers_ .)

This is the best and most knowledgeable video about deep bass ever! I spent a career aa s reviewer of the biggest and most profound sub woofers for theatre use and the crazy stuff in cars. They enjoy what we call the Fear Register and the baddest cars can do 160dB at 20Hz. There is a point at which the awfulness of the intensive body shaking that depsite hearing protection, people have to escape the car or literally tap out and beg for mercy. 153dB is where your eyeballs start to wobble. My deepest was 1Hz in a seacave with water lapping the roof and making a pressure wave..and once, Concorde sonic boom as a kid. Awesome video, well researched. Thanks ever so much!

Fun fact - I lived about 10 years in an apartment right next to a busy capital city boulevard where in the corner of the room where I had the bed and if you put your ear against the windows (acting as membranes of a speaker) you could hear about the same frequency day and night, caused by all the traffic and the resonating frequency of the building. Basically there was a permanent low frequency resonance of the room, within the 20-30 Hz range. I had violence cases all the way from the beginning of my stay there in the first year, with a neighbor hitting me and my car for parking in his self-proclaimed parking spot, later neighbors beating their kids, fights all over the place, and it all ended up with me and my wife almost being killed by one of the neighbors, who broke into our house and beat us up, leaving me with a double jaw fracture and a deformed jaw for life. Even before this unfortunate event, I had a constant feeling all the time that something is wrong and something very bad will happen. Daily, every hour of every day, every moment of my life there. It's been almost 2 years since we moved to a much quieter place towards the peripheries, and I have never ever had that feeling again, even if we had the usual share of problems with neighbors here as well, but there is absolutely no sign of anyone becoming violent or aggressive in any way. Just an advice, if you feel unwell, if you feel like something bad is happening, if you feel tired, aggressive, anxious, put your ear against the windows, if you hear a constant hum, GET OUT and never go back. Try the speakers in your home as well, sometimes they can give off a hum as well, low enough so you're not aware of it but loud enough to mess with your mind.

I remember dissecting a sound clip I recorded in the metro of Prague. When I extracted the frequencies 0 to 20 Hz only and tried to play them back through headphones, I became scared and little bit woozy. I would describe the resulting sensation as "eerie silence". The track was completely silent to me but I could feel a difference between playing it and not playing it. I think the cochlea (the balancing receptor connected to the ears) was picking up these frequencies and getting confused. Because I was using headphones, I don't think the sounds went through my body so no stomach sickness.
