+Chris Wilman Thanks Chris. I've just posted a couple of articles you may find interesting on the www.goyt-valley.org.uk website. They're by cyclists riding through the valley at the same time as the works were going on at Fernilee.

At 4:54 the chap with the sheep is my Grandfather, George W Brocklehurst. We found some old photos of him and it looks just like him even down to the tie. My wife saw the footage and told me I have his gait :) He farmed at Oldfield Normanwood and Knipe Farms and his sheep are Derbyshire Gritstones. It looks like he is on the track heading to Knipe from what is now the Oldfield end of the dam.

+Alec Brocklehurst Thanks for the comment, Alex. I'm told there's some Pathe film of sheep and cattle being herded onto train trucks at Whaley Bridge station which marked the end of farming in the valley. But I'm not having much luck tracking it down.

It would be a very different picture today, that's for sure. But I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Thanks for that David. We lived in Buxton (Burbage) for 30 years some of the happiest of my life and we spent many many hours in the Goyt Valley and the surrounds.
