I remember watching this live. Incredible shot, but incredible play drawn up by the coach. Louisana Tech was anticipating Smith to set a screen on the low block, but she just slipped straight out to the 3 pt line and was wide open. I'm always impressed when a coach makes something up on the spot and can get a wide open look.

The clock apparently started slightly late, yet the ball leaves her hands with 0.3 seconds left. So even if the clock had started instantly, either she would have got the shot off in time or it would have been too close to rule otherwise. @patrickperot62962 жыл бұрын
Ok folks, here's definitive proof that the shot would have been late if the clock had started on time: We all know that the clock started late, but how late? And does it even matter? Well, going frame by frame with the comma and period keys, she gets the shot off with 0.3 on the clock, so we need to see if the clock was delayed 0.3 seconds or more. Let's rewind frame by frame, starting with the first frame where we can see the clock go from 0.0 to 0.1. From that point, it takes three frames for every tenth of a second to pass, or 18 frames to go from 0.1 to 0.7. Now we need to keep rewinding frame by frame and see how many frames it takes to get to the first frame before she catches the ball. 12 frames would be 0.4 seconds of delay, meaning the shot would not have been in time, and by my count there are actually 15 frames. So in actuality, it took just about exactly 0.9 seconds for her to catch and shoot. And for the record, I live in Idaho and have no ties to either school. I just thought this debate was interesting and wanted to find out the answer definitively. I am not bitter about this game or anything and would have analyzed this exactly the same if UNC had been robbed.
