US car had to be fitted with a catalyst.. Because of this, BMW installed a tubular manifold (and the cat) and *also* changed the camshaft (removed the overlap...which was spoiling the emissions). The US engine , the S38 also had a 2-row timing chain and proper pistons that could handle sulfur. The EU spec engine *always* failed in the US because the ring-lands would collapse and the piston would eat a ring (due to the fuel incompatibility). Also, the EU car had nice bumpers. the "Highline" you show here appears to have US-spec bumpers. That's funny 🙂 The EU spec car is easily one of the most beautiful cars ever. The M635CSi had a sticker price of $86K USD in 1995. There was an additional $17K in "Federalizing" cost and $2500 delivery. Ask me how I know :-))

MUCH more like it man! :-D *Love the classics Ricky, thanks for this!* In the early 80's my father had an e28 520e, then an e24 628i and then a dark blue e32 730i with a requested factory manual box. I barely remember the mighty 7 series as a 3 year old. He then traded it after the '91 recession for a white 1988 e34 518i ( :-/) /Then one day he came home in a mint condition 1996 Oxford Green face lift 525i SE. The change from a tappety 4 cyl to a straight six was a revelation to me. This sealed my love for BMW'S. Later he had an e39 530i but the old 7 series and the face lift E34 I WISH he had managed to somehow keep.......

I've used older bmws as daily drivers for the past 15+ years. They were e28s,snd they're flipping amazing. The 525e was my favorite,with the Mtech kit,sounds so great,always turns heads and is really comfy. Even though it's a family car,and automatic,I just wanna keep driving. This had a mere 129bhp when new but it uses it so well. The engine only goes to 4300 approx because it was designed for economy,so always lots of torque. Far from an M635csi but I'm not complaining.

Given it a full fluid change plus new discs and pads. Looking forward to taking it back to Mathewsons where it was originally purchased ('Bangers & Cash ') in June to see what they think! He said the wheels were from an E39 5 series. My dad had a 96 E38 740i with the same wheels 18” big at the time.

Lewis Giddens the 17’s came from e39. Known as Rc090/091. The 18’s came from two cars, the e38 and e39. The e38 wheels were knows as RC061/062 as I’m sure you know. The e39 18” were known as RC092/093. I’m actually refurbing a set and will be putting them on soon
