This sadly misses the majority of reasons that modern day pros are better than the typical amateur, which is simply they have studied extensively and understand gto and understand what spots are over and underbluffed. "The magic" part of poker is so minimal as any online player knows.

The typical amateur would go on tilt after losing a few big pots or getting coolered. The pro also gets coolered and loses pots but has an unbreakable mindset to know deep down that their strategy is still profitable despite getting destroyed on the tables. That is what I'm aspiring to do, but it's so difficult. It's an everyday process. Poker humbles everybody. Maybe that's why a lot of high stakes pros are really good guys that willingly share their knowledge with others

6:55 it doesn't matter if Alex shows emotion on the river after someone raises because his only action is really to call or fold so giving away emotional clues doesn't give the opponent any actionable information. Also this is a pretty standard fold, no read needed.

Not all poker pros are created equal. In saying this, I mean... Many "live" players have learned to control their movements (hand, eye, breathing, and other visible "tells") to keep from giving away critical information other players are looking for. When an online player makes his/her way into the "live" sessions, they often have to learn that poker is more than just making decisions based on game play. In some situations the player is just playing the player and not the cards. This is more true in "live" situations vs. online. Another factor is emotional control. Even some of the pros go thru emotions that can spiral out of control. This is usually when a player reaches "tilt" and usually ditches their "normal" playing patterns. Even a pro can reach a point where they are just not at peak performance and it's time to leave the tables. The better the pro the least likely this happens but it still does happen. Even the best!

Yes. Polar opposites to approach as well. Daniel doesn't shut up fishing for information, and Phil is quiet, stoic, and intimidating. That would be a good watch. A real high stakes game as well. That would be the best indication of physical stressors.

The easy way to know whether to bluff or not is based on the opponent’s actions. What’s their bet size? Did they check the previous round? Most amateurs give away the strength of their hands by their actions, so they open themselves to be attacked by demonstrating they have medium strength hands.

A lot of the points made seem to miss the mark considerably in relation to real life poker. Players don't need to use their brain power 'remember the cards that were dealt', they are on the table for you to see!! The whole preflop, flop, turn, and river structure to the betting was missed entirely in the first hand. Additionally, although it may look like some players are giving off physical tells, a seasoned live player will be super tuned to in to if the other player is looking at them, taking a specific moment to swallow or blink unnoticed for instance. They may also be crafty enough to falsely breath heavy by over inflating their chest etc or look uncomfortable. Just about any pro these days is crunching numbers and ranges from a set memory bank of strategic options. They are then using bet sizing of their own and their opponents to narrow those ranges down into suitable collection of 'bluffs' and 'value' hands with an attempt at always being 'balanced', making it impossible to exploit your strategy. The only time they will deviate from the GTO(game theory optimal) approach is if they feel there is a significantly exposed weakness that can offer greater value in their opponents game. An example would be a very tight player folding too often, you can start to include more bluffs to take advantage of this passive tight play. In summary, there is nowhere near enough emphasis on the actual game here, things like position, ranges, bet sizing, stack sizes etc.

I've played poker for over 23 yrs, over 500 but closer to 1000 live medium sized field tournaments with a profitable R.O.I,and WAY over 1000 online tournaments..I took a break from live games due to health for 3 yrs,on Tuesday I went and played a small field tournament in town for the first time against 20 amateur ppl I didn't know and won.Its my abundance of hands played through the years, knowing percentages, odds, and experience ,not lucky I won, just lucky I didn't lose from getting unlucky.its the inverse at 70% skill 30% luck.tell me why then it's always the better players making the money, final tables and with a higher R.O.I...Are they just lucky? I'd say no.
