Just like the good ol days of Wranglerstar - my late, big brother Paul always had two obsessions in his short 30yr life...planting things...and cutting down trees. He was a huge fan of your channel and he introduced me to it about a year before he was killed in a motorcycle accident (2014). Around 2007 or '08 I bought him a Stihl Farmboss and boy did that ever put a smile on his face... seeing you wielding the traditional orange and white saws reminds me of Paul.

If he wants to make a bowl, he's going to need to go somewhere with a lathe. If they have the lathe, they probably have a wood drying kiln. It's a pretty small slab, so yeah, with the altitude and temperature shifts, this project deserves a little professional intervention I think.

Well done! For those of you who have Amish neighbors, I'd encourage you to visit them, get to know them, and work with them. Many around here have bandsaw mills that will do a great job milling up your bespoke log for a very fair price. If you wish to have the rough sawn look, find one with a circle saw and have them remove a few teeth to give things a rougher look. Don't forget that you should let things dry (or find a local kiln) to get to a final moisture content that allows for proper machining.

There's a positive metaphor here, Cody. A burl like that is not something we can make happen. It's a blessing. But, without the skill, preparation, availability and willingness of an artisan, it'll just be a cool looking chunk of wood. When the two meet, the God blessed burl and the God blessed man (who did his part to be what was needed)... Something really wonderful can come about. God's continued blessings on you and your family.

I am just waiting for my new Amazon discount super special 36" Mill to arrive, Thank you for the fantastic tip on using the normal chains and this beautiful shelf jig, that's a great idea. lol You really have me thinking now, this is turning into quite the elaborate improved contraption project for me, I had to cut myself off at the railroad plan spanning the property for collection and a traveling mill, I'm now stuck on some notion of using Aluminum ladders and all kinds of other things, I'm going with a boat trailer hand winch set up too but I was toying with using an electric one that I can try to gear for the optimum speed, anyway lol this will be my first Mill I'm super excited lol. I'm going to be using a Husky 562 with a 24' bar and try these new X Cut chains for a trial run before any major improvements start, I'm well aware that this is most likely going to turn into one of those hindsight moments when I look back and say it would have been easier and cheaper to have Woodmeister have made me a custom personalized version of their most expensive Mill they have ever produced but I'm at that age where I don't even argue with myself anymore, the longest way around has always been my calling. the Husky combi-cans have a tendency to leak once you have used them for a while because the O ring around the top of the spout tends to either split or come out of place. they also do make the same anti spill spout for the bar oil, you just have to buy them separately. however i wouldn't recommend them especially in colder climates because the oil takes a long time to come out, i have used the cans day in day out for years working in forestry and tree surgery. Keep up the brilliant videos Cody!
