Beneath the waves, the story of a young whale’s astonishing voyage across uncharted waters is about to begin. But this is not Earth’s ocean, nor is this an Earth whale. This is the saga of “South Scrimshaw,” a game-documentary hybrid created by the brilliant Nathan O. Marsh.
In this video, we’ll follow the young whale’s odyssey through the alien ocean depths, and discover a tale of loss, and deep connections. And you can play the full game yourself and support the artist using the links below.

I love the subtle lore the game gives about the state of humanity. Based on my reading, humanity seems to have been taken under the wing of some greater alien society. During the drone section it talks about how they were made for a war that ended up not happening against some new presence.

@shakurasender5583 10 ай бұрын
@BryleMilan idk, during the light drone section it talks about a "Pacification War", where an international coalition declares an intention to "resist", before capitulation was offered to avoid a land invasion or orbital bombardment. The directed panspermia of the lightyears-away "sister planets" to earth are stated to be intentionally seeded, and I don't personally believe this seeding was done by humans just because of how long it would take for such unique life to evolve, even from pre-existing earth life. During the tail end of the game, the vorpix octopi are stated to be "the only long lived cephalopod that have not been culled". It seems odd to me that humans would do this culling given the respect for not interfering in nature the researchers have. I personally believe that these planets were at some point in the distant past seeded from earth stock by an alien group with much more advanced technology, and when they came back to earth and demanded subservience, these were the "Pacification Wars", and they were quickly stopped to avoid earth being devastated. For some as of yet unknown reason, they are also the ones culling long-lived intelligent octopi. I could be wrong, this is only the first chapter of course, but that's my reading of all this.

that dead whale actually had an interesting bit, if others havent discovered it already ill explain what it is so be warned of spoilers. so there is a tracker thing in that bundle of plants, i think it was the first tracker on one of the whales (not sure if intentional) from the first encounter humans had with the species. of what i can recall there were some humans that went out on i think a boat right before a storm or something. there was issues with the boat or something and when the rescue team finally found them they were on top of something, a whale. the whale seams to have been helping them (like some whales irl do, i think mainly hump backs will help other species (not just humans) by kindof guarding them from predicters)

Even if most creatures look like typical earth counterpart (their direct cousins), there still a lot of divergent ones too that evolved independantly since their introduction on the planet and are pretty imaginative ! The titular whale being the first and prime example ! And the worldbuilding is really nice, well-made and interesting ! With human being present on the planet with the whales too ! This game documentary and a genetic project I had to work on has inspired me to write my own spec bio project. I cant form images in my head and therefore can’t draw, so I hope I’ll be able to describe the creatures well enough that I end up in a video like this!

There are actually plenty of artists with aphantasia (the inability to picture things in a “minds eye”) their art just has a bit of a different process to it since most of the “visualization” happens as the piece is being drawn and experimenting with what looks right.
