This time, my fascination for nature and wildlife have led me to the beautiful birdsong of nesting Purple-Rumped Sunbirds. Insatiably curious about their nesting ethology, I observed them for a few days and tried to document them as thoroughly well as my limited time permitted. My goal was to become part of their world, and take everyone of you along. This is the heartwarming story of one of India's smallest birds, filmed up close and personal.

Asking to learn, I notice apart from the main camera you show there are additional angles at the same moment, do you set up different cameras from diff points? Amazing videography and direction!
@KennethLawrencePhotography7 күн бұрын
Glad somebody asked. I filmed for 4 days after staying close by for 3 weeks and observing. Multiple angles were taken over and over for the first 2 days followed by the BTS shot on the 3rd and 4th day. Please don't attempt to get close to nesting birds as it's a very sensitive period for them. This episode is solely for educational purposes and several precautions have been taken to ensure zero disturbance whilst filming.
@cineroustit7 күн бұрын
@@KennethLawrencePhotography Thats awesome to know! The way you placed those clips it feels like they were taken at the same time, and ig thats a technique many professionals use! So the bts werent moments when you were actually shooting? Yes I agree one needs to be careful and shouldn't get too close to bird nests which might disturb the parents regular activity or in worst case lead to abandonment... A purple rumped is attempting to build a nest in the front yard of my home so will try out my best! Thank you for answering
@KennethLawrencePhotography6 күн бұрын
@cineroustit the technique you're guessing is called filmmaking, not everything happens live. It's footage taken over multiple days sometimes to construct a story that's must still be true to the nature of occurance. Almost all of my BTS recordings were live - just responding to scenes as they unfolded. They 2 days prior just gave me an opportunity to document more angles of the same thing. Good luck with your sunbirds. Keep their behaviour as natural and undisturbed as possible. Put out some hibiscus plants for them and also read up on other nectar bearing flowers / host plants they like. Good luck! 😃
@rafimmedia11 күн бұрын
Dear Lawrence, Thank you for sharing such a wonderful film! It’s truly worth watching to gain insights into the habitat of purple-rumped sunbirds. I really appreciate your efforts in putting it together. I do have one query. While I also enjoy wildlife photography, I’m not as experienced as you and am currently trying to decide on the best lens for this genre. I’m considering a used Canon 600mm f/4 or 400mm f/2.8. I primarily focus on bird photography (not much on mammals) and currently use an R6 Mark II with a 100-400mm lens and a 1.4x extender. However, I learned that service support for the EF 600 IS II is only available until 2025. Could you share your thoughts or advice on this? Looking forward to your insights! Warm regards, Mohamed rafi rafimmedia photography
@KennethLawrencePhotography11 күн бұрын
Thank you very much. The EF 600mm III is what I'd recommend or the EF 800mm f5.6 if you're getting a good used piece. Note that the latter is very heavy.

@KennethLawrencePhotography5 күн бұрын
Look at the Canon R10 and RF 100-400mm or a used EF 100-400mm IS II. You might need to push your budget a little. For more, I encourage you to do a little research online and check in with your local camera stores.
