I go to his seminars everytime he manages to make it up to Scotland, just came back from a weekend in Dunoon and Ayr with him, all of this is entirely 100% real His favourite quote is "Justu is like an egg, its up to you if you take it and make an omlett a cake or a soup" He also has just been awarded his 9th Dan making him the only person foreign to Japan to be awarded this honor in the entire history of martial arts.

That would because of an adrenaline rush. Pressure points can be a sharper, harsher pain, yet not really do anything. The point is that pressure points are attacking the nerve bundles, the parts of your body that directly tell your brain, "what? ow, ow, ow this hurts!" While breaking your arm still trips some of those nerve cells, it's more of a side-effect.

Trained with the man himself today and I can say he is 100% real and no way fake. I saw a guy knocked out with 1 chop and he incapacitated a group of blackbelts like they were small children. I outweigh him by about 7 stone and I could not do a thing against him. If you get a chance go and see him in action and you will not be disappointed.

I agree, and this guy only demonstrated it on one guy, not everybody is going to react teh same way. I've been hit in a similar spot with a falling I-beam and didn't get knocked out. I'm sure its possible but I doubt its a reliable method even for a "master"

Of course it's training and hard work. Don't be too quick to dismiss the underlying idea behind pressure points, however. A number of armlocks I know are effective mostly because of the way they pinch the nerve endings, and attacking someone in the armpit, one of the largest nerve bundles, is a great way to nonlethally take out their arm for a little bit, as it completely numbs it up.

it's obvious that a chop can cause a ko. Shock to the nervous system or disruption in the blood flow (like a blood choke) can easily happen. I remember even an old okinawan master who would slice through beer bottles with his chop (only the top part went flying off).

i agree with butaijutsu. in shorin-ryu karate we have the same kind of thing. looks like a shuto. it can do some serious damage if done fast enough but its higher up on the neck. usually we tap the side of the head with the right hand to turn the head so you have a clear hit of the point. very real
@FranklinGray
@FranklinGray 13 жыл бұрын
If the pressure gets too high, such as by a downward angled chop on the vien, the brain will protect itself by sending a signal to the heart to stop beating or slow the beating WAY down inducing itself to not getting any oxygen because the brain didn't know it was just a temporary pressure.

I don't think you need to practice for 21 years to be able to hit someone's artery. All you need is a chart of where the arteries are.

@WhatsUnderTheBridge Unfortunately that tone is real- my husband teases me all the time about being formal. As to my knowledge, I sure as hell hope that the massive student loan debt I have for medical grad school is getting me somewhere. Thanks for comparing me to Wikipedia though- you made my day, although I don't think that was your intention.

it's not that hard to believe that a trained man can knock someone out with one chop to the right part of the neck. i mean you wouldn't argue if the claim was that he could knock you out with a bat to the head and it's the same principal.

It works but I think these guys have had a psychological effect by their master to fall faster because I know you have to do the hit harder and it is actually very dangerous to have it done so i don't think they should be showing this on someone.
@ArcticGator
@ArcticGator 17 жыл бұрын
ha! its true but the chop doesent disrupt the flow of blood to the brain, it might shock the spine but what it does is force a large amount of blood into the brain really fast, it's the sudden pressure of the blood flow in the arteries in the brain, punch a guy hard enough in the liver and it does the same thing!
@Jessir14
@Jessir14 13 жыл бұрын
Hmm... I doubt that it's reduced oxygen delivery to the brain that caused the faint since the central chemoreceptors in the brain respond to increased carbon dioxide, not to decreased oxygen. The carotid artery's baroreceptors just got massively stimulated by the blow and interpreted it as a massive increase in blood pressure. The body's response is to then drop the blood pressure which results in syncope/fainting. All they needed to do was talk to someone who knows a little about the body.

"This is equivalent to a state of surgical anesthesia" So why haven't doctors started using this method?
@marcpeschke4061
@marcpeschke4061 3 жыл бұрын
Because the effect is only temporarily and not really suitable for a surgery that might take several hours. The surgeon would have to chop the patient every other minute to keep him in the state of unconsciousness.

@iforippon Well, automatic reflexes/muscle memory caused by years of practising the move could be an explanation. While he was falling, the brain was most likely still active enough for the body to react to the fall. But I'm no expert on this, so don't take my word for it.

wtf a good free shot to the carotid artery and anyone would go down. Now can he land that on a moving target that's fighting back? Maybe he could but his base pro wouldn't be as solid and most likely the old bugger wouldn't be able to take a shot.

@jdw0lfskin "most modern combative systems"? how many combative systems are there? if i don't know this one but know another, does that mean there is a gaping hole in my defensive system? how would one improve one's "systems" without ever being in an actual fight? if I've never been in a fight, does that mean my system is fool-proof? and why does fighting people? answer these questions and then i might care about 'karate chop knockout" (incidentally the only move i've never seen)...

every1s an expert eh! ive been punched in the side of the neck and its the closest ive been to getting knocked out- i was on the floor trying to get up and my arms and legs would not work!! i do taekwondo and researched a lot of martial arts including krav maga, tip of the nose, tip of the chin, side of the neck and under the armpit are all knockout reflex areas, i agree tho the old dude shouldnt be hitting his students in the neck to demonstrate, it can cause seizures n permanant damage!!

They tested it on one guy. How is that scientific? Also, I've been hit really hard on the neck in that spot, harder than an old man can hit and I've not been knocked out. Because I have decent neck muscles. I'm sorry, but this reeks of bullshit to me.
@FranklinGray
@FranklinGray 13 жыл бұрын
The chop to the neck is real, but this "scientific" explaination is all wrong. If you study that vien, you will find that it has speical nerves associated with it. Those nerves measure the blood pressure going to the brain.
