!! I have a slight correction to make, I said source of glucose and I meant sucrose. Ill definitely be referring to this in future videos as "simple sugars" as to not make that mistake again. Thank you Simon Sheep for catching that so I could fix it !!
This method was first introduced to me by @stunnin21 on IG, hes a pretty awesome guy. Id also like to thank NatureJohn from Discord for his assist with modifying this tek to feed corn.

I have seen that as well, and its always confused me. Before using the entire Drippy Corn process (not just the sugar), I was more of an oats man myself. I had used corn before in the past, and it did just fine. Nut now with the entire method: forced hydration, exposing endospores, vermiculite as hydration regulation and storage, proper sterilization, etc I am a Drippy man 4 sure. Not only have I never understood the hate for corn, Ive also never understood they hype for millet or rye. Not hating on either, have used them both, but I didnt think they were anything special either. Most all grains work well if you prep them accordingly and sufficiently sterilize them.

For anyone using an instant pot this is what i had to do for the same results. I used an instant pot since that’s the only pressure cooker i have. I believe they only reach 10-12 psi on high. I had to cook my popcorn on high for 60 minutes. The grain wasn’t saturated enough on the inside after checking it after a 30 minute cycle and then an additional 20 and then another 15-20. I had only a few burst kernels but the majority were plump and nicely saturated without bursting. Then i proceeded as directed. I then ran the sterilization as directed. I will probably invest in a old school pressure cooker to be able to better fit quartz jars and to have more control over the psi. I just wanted to add what i found for time run for the hydration cycle using the instant pot in case anyone else is wondering. Hope this helps.

Interesting. Im wondering if it would be the same as a single 60min run, since it was broken up into 3 separate cycles. Soon I should be finding a cheap used one to test this out with. Considering youve already done some leg work, Ill start out with a 60min cycle and make adjustments as needed. Thank you for being an active participant in helping us figure out how to adapt this tek to an Instapot! Appreciate your help and comment here

If using spore syringes (without knowing the way they are prepared) when inoculating the jars, would using drippy corn vs normal corn be beneficial in terms of speeding up the colonization of the jar? Or is this only helpful when using a liquid culture or agar which shares the same introduced product to the corn (like corn syrup). Hope this question makes sense. Thanks!
@WhiteBeardHashtag1205
@WhiteBeardHashtag1205 Ай бұрын
Excellent question, and you made plenty of sense. Drippy Corn most definitely works best when using LC or colonized agar to inoculate your grains. However, using spores on Drippy Corn is a double edged sword my friend. The simple sugars will still slightly accelerate growth, but it will also feed any fungal and bacterial contaminants. Spores should be considered inherently dirty. I would never suggest anyone to inoculate grains with spores. I would rather suggest to germinate spores to agar first, and once you have a clean culture either use that live mycelium to inoculate some LC broth (to then inoculate the grains with), or use that colonized agar puck itself to inoculate the grains. If you absolutely mush use spores to inoculate, I would suggest an entirely different method known as PF Tek (or BRF cakes), until you have a fruit to clone with.

Just to cement it in my mind, for feed corn the process is to bring the corn up to pressure and then immediately off the heat for the hydration part? popcorn is available for me but I have access to feed corn and it is much cheaper. Many have opted for the feed corn route, and I myself have run it many times. Yes, you are correct that once you bring the PC up to 15psi kill the heat and let depressurize naturally. One key to using feed corn though is to make sure and purchase whole kernel corn, and not split corn. If you have any more questions hit me up on Discord, my handle there is WhiteBeard#1205

@WhiteBeardHashtag1205
@WhiteBeardHashtag1205 3 ай бұрын
@@ETMIRAGE Thats an excellent question. As Ive never tried it, I wouldnt suggest it. Mainly because it is a nutrient source, and without it already having the hydration I feel it may be a problem sterilizing it. Also, I feel that popcorn, a closed ended grain, wouldnt do much to absorb moisture in the same manner vermiculite would. The allure of vermiculite is that it is non-nutritious substance that is very good at absorbing hydration, whilst still keeping that hydration available to the myc during its colonization phase. Also, without them being force hydrated it is likely you would not be able to expose their endospores for the sterilization run, thus heavily increasing the rate of contamination. Thats really cool that youve had success with the Instapot though! Again, great question, and I love the interaction with my audience😁 Stay safe, and Happy Cultivating!!

any reason why you suggest feeder corn but use whole kernels in the video? Really need some help here Bro!
@WhiteBeardHashtag1205
@WhiteBeardHashtag1205 2 ай бұрын
Personally, I do use feed corn, whole kernel feed corn. I used popcorn in the video because thats whats used in the original Drippy Corn method, and thats what I am showcasing in the video. Im not sure who suggested you purchase cracked corn, as all grains we use in cultivation are whole grain: millet, milo, brown rice, oats, corn, etc. I have not heard of anyone using cracked grains, nor suggesting them. The only help I can offer you is to start new with whole kernel corn, whether it be whole kernel feed corn or popcorn. Best of luck to you

@WhiteBeardHashtag1205
@WhiteBeardHashtag1205 3 ай бұрын
Wait, what? The base of your PC blew out? If you lost that much water there mustve already been a previous issue. You shouldnt have gone through anywhere near that much water in a PC cycle. Or, were you not using a raised trivet, and just using the trivet the PC comes with that sits flat on the bottom of the PC? If thats the case, then you had almost no water in it to begin with.

The manual for my 23qt presto (looks like the same one you use) actually recommends a full 4 qts of water if processing times exceed 100min. Careful heat management can keep water loss to a minimum, but I think you're right that using the stock trivet and only filling the water up to that trivet is far too little water.

So Edward Grand says "Idk why ppl think adding simple sugars (honey karo syrup ect...ect) is a benefit. It just helps cause contamination". So he basically says the "drippy" in "dripppy corn" is useless. Lot's of ppl seem to think otherwise. I guess this is the community we have! Some swear on it some swear @ it! lol

I’m on the pro-drippy corn side of things, while the sugars maybe an extra contam point, the myc takes hold far faster, so fast it dominates any possible contam! Drippy corn > dripless corn

@@Coastalplainsmycology if the entire tek is followed, it does much more than just speed up colonization, it also: max hydrates the kernels to perfection, exposes endospores to be easily killed, helps regulate moisture, provides extra moisture for the myc to use during colonization, completely sterilizes your grains, and keeps your kernels better hydrated for your spawn to bulk. Thanks for the comment, and Happy Cultivation!! 😁

@@JackedMycologist not sure about it being an vector for tems, if the tek is followed 100% all endospores should be dead and grains thoroughly sterilized. But yes, definitely, if something were introduces during inoculation, it gives the myc a boost to hasten colonization, potentially outpacing possible contaminants! Btw, great seeing you in the comment section as always brother. Absolutely appreciate the support and engagement 🤍

@@SomeGuy-vo7we that is a negative my good sir, you are mistaken. The video youre referencing was published over a year ago. PGT has since released a video (2mo ago) that illustrates Drippy Corn. In the opening paragraph of his video he states "Drippy Corn has sped up my colonization time twice as fast, so I think its worth sharing so you guys can try it out for yourself". Brown rice came nowhere near matching the colonization speed of Drippy Corn. Also to note, it is purported that corn kernels have a better nutrient profile, and the larger grains allow for better aeration. Appreciate you commenting though 😁
