The Influence of Garden City Ideas on the American and Australian Towns

In the 1890s, Ebenezer Howard introduced his panacea for all of society’s problems - the Garden City. He sought to secure ‘in perfect combination’ all the advantages of town and country life in a new type of urban community. With a network of garden cities, Ebenezer Howard saw a way to get all the benefits of the city while connecting us to nature and eliminating poverty. Subsequently, this interesting planning ideology influenced many countries around the globe, in particular Australia and America. This video investigates the impact of Garden City's ideas on two case studies: Colonel Light Gardens, Australia and Radburn, New Jersey, America.
