The Inmate Teaching Finance Behind Bars

Curtis Carroll is simply known as “Wall Street” by his fellow inmates at San Quentin State Prison because of his winning reputation for picking and trading stocks. Currently serving a 54-to-life sentence, Carroll founded the prison’s financial literacy program as a way to better equip and empower inmates. For the past 10 years, he’s been teaching the basics of personal finance and how to trade and buy stocks. His goal is give others the tools and the hope to build a life beyond crime.

I had the chance to meet him myself and holy cow he is wise. nearly all of the inmates at san quentin seem to have completely flipped their life around and become wiser and more ready for the world than anyone else, it really does give me hope that there may be a chance for the american criminal justice system..

I've seen a few comments asking how/why he's in prison, he was on a ted talk last year and went more into detail there, but here's what happened. He didn't have a normal childhood, his family members trained him to rob arcades and the household income was funded through robbery. When he was 17, one of the robberies didn't go as planned and because of all of his past offences he was tried as an adult and basically sentenced to life in prison.

Because of listening/watching this gent's story EVERYDAY for the past 16 days, I FIRMLY BELIEVE THAT I AM GONNA BE A WEALTHY BILLIONAIRE 20 years from now.
