htku rtku must feel so good to see those kids feel happy and special for a day... Something most take for granted ,but times can be tough ,and it can happen to anyone... It’s definitely not fair when the innocence of childhood is affected by adulthood problems. It is great to know that a few extraordinary people can change a life even if it’s temporary though..Great work!

Or simply that grandpas are generally retired so their pace of life is slower and calmer. They can sit with a baby without being impatient or anxious about needing to do a dozen other things. And they’ve raised at least one child successfully in contrast to the parents who are often new to it all and bombarded with advice on when and how the baby should be sleeping and eating.

Back in the 50s when I was born premature, the standard care was putting babies in isolets to keep them safe from infection. The downside was having little physical interaction during the month I stayed at the hospital. Long term effects? Not much, except that I'm claustrophobic to the point that I have to be sedated for an MRI 😵

David Deutchman's story is so precious to me because I was an extremely premature, low-weight baby in the winter and spring of 1966 at a time when parents were discouraged from/ extremely limited in the amount of time they could spend at the NICU with their children in incubators. I spent my first six months in the hospital. I have often imagined what my earliest hours and days must have been like and how I might have felt under the care of nurses and other staff members. Now that we know more about the importance of touch and bonding from the earliest hours, David Deutchman's volunteering as well as that of so many others, is beyond measure for the many of us who don't have access to extended caring human contact in these hospital settings. Thank you for sharing David's story and Thank you David!
