@ 15:47, when you roll a 7, you drop 5 wood, leaving you with 1 wood, 1 brick, 3 wheat, 1 ore. you're main goal was to try to settle on the 8 10. you should have dropped 1 ore, 2 wheat and 2 wood wood, meaning you have 4 wood, 1 wheat, 1 brick and just 3:1 the wood to get the sheep. you talk yourself into trying to rob for a wheat to 3:1 it. the ore is only so valuable to you because you're only on the 2 ore spot, but a settlement puts you on the 8 ore spot. it ultimately takes you several turns to get the settlement down. sometimes saving cards is import, but sometimes just getting the settlement down is much more useful - especially when you have deficiencies in specific production areas

15:34 - I would've chucked the ore to guarantee the settle - yes it's rare, but it's not worth the risk of not settling for the prospects of saving an ore, would've been game changing

0:33 I wonder why DyLighted didn't choose 10 9 3 and 4 6 11 both pointing left? It's a good winning position. You get all resources except ore. You get easy access to both 3:1 and 2:1 wheat port. You do risk someone taking the 8 10 spot but its a risk worth taking.

actually, by picking the 6-3 instead of the 10-8 black helped you a lot. at that point you would not have had monopoly on wood and you would have starved for brick very badly, having to to wait to trade 4:1 for it, being exposed to getting 7ed all the time. only 3 resources being food, wool and wheat imo is unplayable unless you have full monopoly on 1 of them or you get the 2:1 port for the resource you produce most of. to be honest I find it a miracle that having no brick at all you even managed to build 2 roads and settle on the 6-2 spot (3 bricks total, btw). That was an incredibly tall order. I guess black just wanted to trade with you to keep you happy.

You played well Going for the 810 before the 31 port would have been stronger - you have good wood/brick material to get there in a timely manner. A costly mistake imo

Sorry but I believe you're wrong. He had 4 hexes of wood and only 1 of brick. He obviously has far more wood than brick and that port is extremely valuable to port the excessive wood.

Interesting point. It really comes down to the value of getting on the 8 ore immediately vs the ability to 3 for 1 rather than 4 for 1. Intuitively, I still think 810 will allow to build cities faster but I haven't got a mathematical proof. You could be right.

Either way he had multiple chances to get on 8 10 sooner than he did and he didn’t prioritize the settle trying to have his cake and eat it too

@@wpt729fx It's not only about ore, he also had bad sheep production and he had to prioritize getting more bricks for road at some point. Another reason that he mentioned is that the 8 ore would be constantly blocked. A port is always valuable when you have high production of a specific recourse, it makes your hand flexible and less chance to 7 out. If you want a mathematical proof in this case- statistically the 8 wood equals to the 6 brick so let's say he had only 3 hexes of excessive wood with a combined chance of around 1/3 (and double on the 5) compared to 1/6 of the 8 ore. This means he gets around 2 wood for every 1 ore he would get (and if you prioritize a city, including the 8, the production of an ore would be statistically the same but too much of excessive wood with no port). So this plus all the reasons above make his hand far better. Hope all of that convinces you :)

Production is definitely not the same - 5 points of ore + 3 points of wood vs 4 points of wood. You have a valid point about the sheep and also the 8 ore block. I was actually interested in the maths so I wasted 15mins of my life to look at the actual rolls that happened between 10:25 and 20:45 to see the difference. Rolls: 865 5273 81047 4686 7679 7555 73107 6669 3669 11459 8939 7 31 port was used only twice at 13:08 and 20:38 Difference in resource production: 31 port settle: 5 wood + 1 wood saved by 31 port at 13:08 = 6 wood 810 settle: 3 ore (first 8 is ignored as Dylan would not have had the 810 yet) + 2 wood + 1 wheat saved at 20:38 by using wheat port instead of 31 port = 3 ore + 2 wood + 1 wheat Based on this very simplified analysis, the 810 would have been much better. However, this doesn't consider the 8 being blocked which is valid. It is also analysing a actual dice rolls rather than a normal distribution.
