The INSANE & AMAZING 100 Heads Drawing Challenge Sketchbook Tour

Trying out the 100 heads drawing challenge in my brand new Stillman & Birn mixed media (zeta series) sketchbook. For this drawing challenge I decided to use this 8x5 extra heavyweight paper as in addition to challenging myself by drawing 100 heads I wanted to also push myself on the materials I used. Throughout the sketch book I use a variety of materials including, Ohuhu alcohol based markers, Faber Castel Polychromos, Jelly gouache, acrylic gouache, ball point pens and graphite pencil.
Per your request, I am showing just the first half now and then will be posting the second half in the coming weeks.
I can honestly say that I learned a lot more from this art challenge than I thought I was going to. I really tried to push myself on technique and material usage.

I loved your sketchbook especially the Inigo Montoya reference. Still my all-time favorite line in the movie. I really thought the spread of the flower babies was so adorable. They seemed almost 3D. Beautiful work!!

so cool!! ive been eyeing the zeta and beta series for gouache, do you think the zeta is too smooth? 🤔

@YeahOkayok I like both and think both could be used to do gouache. I’ve done gouache in both sketchbooks with similar final results. I definitely prefer the zeta series for pen/marker

Did you use different paper for the alcohol markers and glue them in? If so, what paper do you use for your markers? All my papers bleed.

So I always do one of two things when working with the alcohol markers. I either would draw directly on the sketchbook and then tape in a page on the back so you couldn’t see the bleed through. Or I would work on a page and then tape it into the sketchbook. I’ve found that Bristol paper works the best for me when using alcohol markers

@@RachelleByersArt Thanks. I love the look of marker art. The problem is the good ones are so expensive. I've got a 36 set of Arteza and hate them, they're so dry. Plus, it seems like one needs a *lot* of colors to render anything but that could be my inexperience.

I honestly love my Ohuhu alcohol markers. For me they’ve been the best so far and are affordable (I love Copic but they are 💰💰💰💰)
