There was a clear advantage for Alireza and Fabiano, but both were under huge time pressure, though Ali Reza could have tried as he and opponent both were in time pressure unlike Caruana as Hikaru had huge time advantage.

google this : « chess en passant rule »
@mattheww48626 ай бұрын
It's a very special move called "en passant". Normally pawns can only capture the piece within one square diagonal ahead of them. En passant allows capturing of an opponent's pawn directly next to it but with specific conditions: 1) the pawn doing the capturing must be on the 5th rank for white, or 4th rank for black. 2) the pawn being captured must be in an adjacent file (just like normal capturing) 3) the pawn being captured must have pushed their pawn up two ranks from the starting position 4) The capture must occur immediately after the event in condition 3 (so can't play another move and then attempt the capture). There's a pretty cool game where Magnus Carlsen himself is checkmated by en passant. kzbin.info/www/bejne/kGrQf2xvm5Vjoqc
