Tom is someone I have followed, and will continue to do so.. My dad recently passed away, and my buddy, SOMEHOW got in touch with To The Stars, explained my situation and overall love & admiration for him, that a few weeks later, I received a handsigned poster by Tom, written to me, about sympathizing with losing a father. Tom will never know just how much that meant to me. He went out of his way, to do that. For me. Wild to think of. Someone who has a great personality, great sense of humor, great musician, but even a BETTER PERSON. He will, 100% without a doubt, have my full support, with whatever he chooses to do.

As time goes on the more I empathize with Tom and Mark. Mark is like “Why do you keep leaving the family? Aren’t we enough?!” And Tom is like “I’m sorry I need to be more than a Punk Rock artist.” I feel like Tom’s body of work explains this may have been what was going on. I’m glad Tom got to do a lot but I’m thrilled Blink is back together. I just hope Tom can make time for the Blink “family” this time.

Tom is a creative soul. He lives and dies for his passion. You don't have to know him personally to understand he's moved by emotion and that everything he does is because he feels like doing it, in spite of any backlash or controversy his decisions may bring. And I think you're right, you don't get one without the other, but we wouldn't change him for the world. He approaches everything with exceptional curiosity, almost like a kid would. Which is why he's always pushed himself and those around him both musically and outside of it.

And I've had some serious doubts over the years, but seeing his achievements stacked up like this, in 20 minutes, really blew my mind. It's easy to write him off as a lunatic based on a recent interview in 2006, 2009, 2012, whenever, but you can't deny his body of work. He was one of the sparks that has gotten us to where there are congressional investigations happening into secret government programs that would simply just never have happened without him. I looked crazy when i started talking to him and he pulled back a little, then I showed him my blink tat and he became super friendly and asked where I'm from, where's my accent from etc. I fucking shined for couple of days after that. I was a kid from a small town in Estonia who grew up with blink, it meant a bunch for me at a time. And let me tell you... It was 17:59, and I was about to end my shift and go home. And there he was! There is some unseen force that just makes things like this happen. Good times! (Yes, I have a photo, hehe).

Tom is the reason why I started playing guitar. “What’s My Age Again” is probably the first song I learned on guitar. I was a huge Blink fan and it they were my gateway into punk. It’s still one of my favorite bands. “Take Off” is probably my favorite album of theirs because it feels like the distillation of everything that Blink had been and would become while keeping that signature Blink sound. When the self-titled album came out, I was already into heavier stuff like AFI, Thrice, Thursday, The Used, etc. By the time Angels and Airwaves came around, I wasn’t looking for new music like I was years before. Any new stuff I found was either post hardcore, metalcore, or Japanese rock. It’s only a decade later that I started checking out some of Angels and Airwaves stuff. I like some of it a lot and some of it doesn’t connect with me like other bands do. But Tom is probably the most influential person on my life that I’ve never met. He sparked a love of music that I didn’t have before.

Another great video (but I always enjoy your rock history videos) I think one of the most under rated things about AvA is that each album is set up like a rock opera. Each has a theme and tells a grand story and is meant to be listened to as an album. Hats off to Tom for the ambition and vision it takes to create the way he does. I know a lot of people were shitting on AvA when they dropped their first album, but damn...these albums are sonically amazing. Blink and AvA are my all time favorites and I'm so glad the boys are back and the new album is stellar!

Heavy on the “you don’t get one without the other” genius or crazy idea. (As a fan) sometimes I felt angry towards Tom for going back and forth on Blink so many times, at least on behalf of Mark and Travis and as a huge fan of OG blink. What really made me start to change perspectives though was his “pursuit of tone” documentary. I felt as though I got a mature inside look at Tom and his professional life, and I had no idea he was addicted to pain killers. It also helped me to understand what Tom was trying to do with A&A and TSS. He takes his bands and company very seriously, no different than Travis with FSS and Mark and “Hi My Name is Mark” deal. It helped me to see Tom as a 3 dimensional being, and with the reunion and last year of them playing together again, I have a deeply profound sense of respect for Tom. He approaches everything he does with so much curiosity and creativity, and I have to assume that’s where his success comes from. He’s just not afraid to try anything, and not enough people can say that. Great video as always Fin!

I think many people can not separate „being weird“, from „being authentic“. People who judge someone, they dont really know, about being weird are probably scared to get called weird themselfes. Like you said the thing that makes Tom „weird“ are exactly the Same things that makes him sucessfull and a „Genius“. He lifes in his own World, with his own beliefs about whats possible in the World and when you think about every Person in the Past who is called a „genius“, its the Same thing. They dont think „when i live in my own World with my own beliefs, People will call me weird“. They exactly know that this is making them unique and authentic. When you are authentic the struggle of people calling you „weird“ is your company. And so i fully understand why Tom for himself had the struggle that he is „weird“ sometimes. Who are we to judge someone who is authentic and beliefes he can achieve everything. Who are we to call this man weird.

I’m in my late 30s and loved Blink as a teen. I have t kept up with the bands of my youth pretty much since leaving for college, so I had no idea about any of this about Tom. That is wild. What a Renaissance man.

The Persuit of Tone - Tom DeLonge is, and probably will always be, a big inspiration for me. It helps me have a better approach when it comes to art, thinking how I can express and deliver it in different outputs that go beyond the music per see.

Blink are a great sum of its parts and I'd love modern rock and metal guitarists start worshiping song structure/writing over tone and riffs. Guitar nerds programming drums lose the dynamics of Travis who isn't just a high energy drummer. Ghost hits, flams, cymbal manipulation and a bounce to the energy is not possible mousing it in. The band dynamic is what guitar nerds should be obsessive about. Not what magnet is in a pickup or string brand.

I was always listening to rap for most of my teenage and early 20s but I remember listening to the first two A&A albums and loving them to the point where it was all I was listening to while at work.

Travis barker is obviously a genuine person and his skill behind a drum kit is mesmerizing. I’m a drummer who is self taught and I thank the skills I’ve acquired is 1 part tre cool and 3 parts Travis barker and I was so thankful that he survived the crash and he is still the best drummer alive

I never got why everyone is saying he was right, while I believe he's doing a good job and what he's doing with to the stars, there still isn't any definitive proof of any extra terrestrial life.

That very first Angels & Airwaves album was a huge part of my 2006 experience. I haven't listened to it in probably 5 or 6 years but I still consider it an incredible album.

Ive always loved tom as well. I was a huge fan of blink in highschool and i even remember a dream i had around that time where i traveled back in time and met tom when he was a highschooler and told him that one day hed be the lead singer of the one of the greatest bands in the world and he was stoked. Ive also always been fascinated by ufos and E.Ts and actually loved it when i heard he had left blink to persue ufo research. I was sad they had split but i thought it was super cool that he persued, what id consider, the greatest mystery of our time

Now this is the content I need from this channel. I strted watching because of the truly informational and well-researched videos that spoke about bands' histories and the progression of music genres through history and I'm really tired to see such great content displaced by tiktok cringe and tier lists. Great video. Hope more of this is to come.

The fact that Tom had so many great songs in Blink, then Box Car Racer, and then had some many solid albums with Angels & Airwaves is pretty astounding. I think AvA had 4 amazing albums until they fell off with Dream Walker. I can think of tons of "trained" musicians who aren't nearly as creative with so little.

I felt like Joe Rogan was kind of a dick with Tom in that interview. I didn't realize "Tom was right" ever trended on the Internet. But that's exactly what I thought when that UFO vid leaked. And then I thought "Joe owes him an apology." Instead, he interviewed his bandmate and clowned on him a bit more. I think sometimes that A-hole jock side of Joe comes out. And no ammout of mushrooms can stop that from happening.
