Icelander here; While it is correct that in some grocery stores you can find plastic bags with ice cubes, which are definitely not made in Iceland, this whole video makes it sound like there is some massive importation of ice cubes going on in the country. For decades you have been able to get free ice cubes from stores that had ice machines (there really isn't much labour cost involved in ice cube making), and now there is some minimal fee for buying them. Most people just have fridges at home and make their own. So the whole premise for this video is based on some dubious grounds at best.

In Canada it's cheaper to buy pasta from turkey than from Canada, despite Canada being a major wheat producer and having factories that make pasta

I don't think you mentioned why the icelanders wouldn't just harvest the glacial ice themselves lol

I don't get how efficient local energy production contributes to importing ice. The final summary seems off.

You know what's crazy? Some people have videos that are 8-10 minutes on this topic!

They don’t have freezers in Iceland? I’m sure most people freeze their own water in their kitchen like most people. This video content seems over engineered. I doubt it was a centralised government decision to import ice! It’s a free economy, people can import it if they want

It's about commodity purchased ice - like at grocery stores. If you watched the video you'd know that, right?

Italy is by far the biggest European exporter of ice
