I'm a 49er fan and my observation is that the thing that makes Purdy special is his accuracy. Shanahan's offense emphasizes quick, accurate passes so that the receivers can get YAC. Jimmy G was getting really good by the time he was injured, but previously his ball placement left much to be desired. Often thrown high at the receivers fingertips. Purdy from his first snap makes a quick decision, hits the receivers in the body, in the direction they are going, consistently.

This Kid's processing seems elite. Intelligence/ Defense reading will always be the biggest attribute of a good QB. This breakdown is such an eye opener As for the "Bad" throws, he will see those on film and work to improve. But he's a rookie still, so he'll make some rookie errors, as any rookie QB should. But this kid can be elite at this level. As for the deep post route,I disagree...The 45 yrd TD Kittle caught vs Washington was meant for Ray Ray McLoud who WAS Running a deep post.Washington dared him to hit that ball and he did so. So he's already ticked that box

The throw as meant for Kittle all the way, Kittle just went rogue. The middle safety was sitting on the deep in, Kittle saw his flat feet and just ran by him, which is why there were two receivers in the same spot. That wasn't design it was a read on the fly

I wouldn't say elite but Shanahan's system makes it easy to work the progressions and given all that strong talent around the perimeter, he just has to pick right consistently to give them the ball and make a play in space. I think the few great things that do stick out in his starts has been his pocket awareness/navigation and his consistency in structure. Many QB1s get giddy with their feet when the pocket gets messy but Brock has done well with those. Along with stepping up and even taking a big hit when throwing his deep bombs when the matchup presents itself. Can't ask for more from a guy who just has to stick with script and execute.

Besides Shanahan wasn't looking deep into day 3 of the draft for a dude with an special ass arm. Those guys are already taken in the earlier rounds. He's looking EXACTLY for a guy who sticks with the script to execute and make the smart decisions 7-10 times to march down the field. If that QB can make a 40 yr throw off a mismatch read they saw, big bonus. The pocket navigation is already a big bonus since even most QB1s in the league struggle moving in messy pockets.

On his pressure to sack rate: Obviously quick release and quick reads is a big part of this, but his athleticism is surprising. He has an elite 10 yard split (1.55, 95th percentile among QBs), so while he doesn't have top end speed (mediocre 4.8 40), his acceleration is similar to a 4.3-4.4 40 yard runner. It's uncanny how often he gets a guy in his face and absolutely bursts away and gets rid of the ball. When it comes to evading rushers, pressuring the line of scrimmage and stretching the defense horizontally, he's up there with anyone.

Yes. a few bad throws a game is enough to go from really good to pretty bad. A QB is not their highlight reel. That’s how it works. Example being that Tua is an awesome statistical QB. If you ignore the fact that he consistently under throws his wide open receivers and throws at least 3 atrocious passes a game that should be picked off. Hence he’s just middling.

Brock Purdy is 10x better at executing this 49ers offense than Jimmy G. This video completely ignores his oblique injury in the Seattle game which was during a short week. He barely practiced and still executed when they needed him. If a 1st round pick QB does that scouts will be praising him. But when Brock Purdy does it means he’s not ready to lead a team to the SB? Brock Purdy has completely revitalized this 49ers offense and has elevated Kyle Shanahan’s play-calling. He is the perfect system QB which Brady was and he won 7x super bowls with that. Tired of scouts writing off prospects because they can’t throw a 100mph heater that most receivers can’t catch anyway.

But he hit the deep post against WAS last week? Likewise he hit the deep wheel route against Tampa. I love how you featured his footwork. You made a point I've been all about with him: he leaves his base "available" for the deep shot. That's something JG doesn't do. This is a good example of Brock getting analyzed differently than other rookie QBs. There's a built in bias it seems. Historically, if a rookie was playing this well everybody mainly focuses on the player's upside. They don't ignore the downside but it's usually brushed off as "he's a rookie, he'll get better." Brock, even after what he's done, is still getting pessimistic coverage for the most part. Hard for people, even Alex it seems, to look past size and draft position even if there's plenty of historical evidence to do so. I appreciate the in depth look at his downsides though. Most others have just disregarded him with very little analysis. My prediction, he's the 49er starter for the foreseeable future but he probably loses the nfc championship or the super bowl in what will probably end up being his first shootout with the eagles or chiefs.

Purdys footwork, being able to throw on the run from multiple angles, leads the receivers, confident, leadership skills and a handful of intangibles are going to make this kid a star for years barring injury. Purdy is only improving there is no regression in his game. People forget he’s playing injured due to another one of his abilities which is toughness. This dudes opinion seems like a copy of most Purdy critics. Fails to mention Purdys amazing 10 yard split time, the fact that the Niners are averaging 10pts more than they had with Jimmy G, that the 2 games he blasted were without Deebo and Purdy has found a way to get Kittle involved in the passing attack far more than before. My impression of Purdy is that he’s a winner. I always thought Jimmy G was a high floor low ceiling type. The moment was never too big for him but he was consistently inconsistent. With Trey Lance, it was the exact opposite - low floor high ceiling. I always thought Trey Lance was in over his head with flashes of athleticism. Purdy looks like what I always imagined a young Joe Montana looked. Purdy may or may not ever reach the same ballpark as the Mount Rushmore of QBs, but I’m excited to watch the journey.

Brock Purdy wasn't a NOBODY! He was among the elite QB's in the Big XII. The issue with him and Iowa State was the team AND himself came up small when the stakes were at their highest. He even beat my OU Sooners twice while in college. Like most of the QB's that came out of the Big XII, they just needed time to adjust to the speed of the game and limit interceptions. Purdy shouldn't have dropped as far as he did, but give the Niners doing b their due diligence and making a calculated gamble, they got the QB steal of the draft.

The Commanders game he came out in the second half and didn’t repeat his few mistakes from the first. Honestly, he's still performing at the same high level he was at after you claimed his fundamentals started falling apart. Sometimes misses are just misses and are not indicative of an immediate regressions ESPECIALLY if they're still moving the ball with gusto.

Garoppolo and Purdy have very similar skill sets, except Purdy is more mobile, more poised, more accurate, more confident, more cerebral, more comfortable turning his back to the defense, more willing to throw downfield and more mature.

I think the throw at 7:48 was more an indictment on his arm then his feet. Footwork was clean on that Read play. Pocket was moved. He even read the coverage the same way Aiyuk did and threw it on time. He just couldn't step into it and had to drive it and couldn't get it there

With Deebo coming back soon, I'd have to say that I believe Purdy could play like Trent Dilfer and we'd still have a solid shot at winning it all. But at this rate, he's on track to score as many TDs as Russell Wilson this season. I'd call that enough to win it all with this defense and this set of running backs (when healthy).

For this year, Niners should be able to win with Brock Purdy. The defense should prevent being put in a hole to need to come from behind. The focused running game should be able to control the clock. And if opposing defenses sell out to stop the run, Brock seems to be skilled enough to make them pay for it. A lot of folks give thoughtful criticism for Brock in a general sense, which is fair since most evaluations are in the context of going to any team. However, in the narrow context of Brock can win on this team in this system in this year, anything less would be a disappointment.

Purdy also does this thing where he points his foot to the sideline on throws and as he throws he twists and locks it causing him to lose a lot of arm strength, he could have a much better arm if he pointed his foot towards his target and let his whole body throw the ball

If Eli Manning could win 2 SB's then why cant Brock Purdy? The majority of the time it comes down to the QB but certainly not always. 49ers have some serious equalizers on both sides of the ball and if Purdy stays this good, its likely they will win the SB healthy

Brock Purdy has as many TD passes of 25+ yards this season as Patrick Mahomes has (6). Purdy is a better compliment to run game. Jimmy couldn’t make the D pay for stacking the LOS. It’s unlocked the offense and at some point, defenses will have to adjust, which will in turn help our run game. Purdy is everything Shanahan wants in a QB. He’s a rich man’s Kirk Cousins. Christian McCaffrey is excellent, but the 49ers needed an upgrade at quarterback, not running back. That’s why they scored 13 points against the Saints. The season turned when Brock Purdy became the QB. The 49ers scored 37 points last week against a top 5 defense even though Christian McCaffrey was limited to 58 yards from scrimmage and Deebo Samuel didn’t play. That’s the Purdy Effect.

Coming back to this after a couple weeks, a lot of this isn't holding up. This isn't a knock on the analyst, as we all know Alex Rollins is absolutely tremendous and the best of the best when it comes to breaking down technique. Instead I believe it shows a Progression of Brock Purdy since then. In fact, the word "regression" was probably too strong a word to use at this early stage. My reasoning: The injury affected his throws, this has since resolved. His footwork is right back on track; this was apparent in the second half of the Raiders game, and is an example of some of the in-game corrections Purdy has made, which is not always common for rookies. His tendancy to escape the pocket had defenses (Seattle) attempting to use that to their advantage, but Purdy has also been working on turning that from a negative into a playmaking ability; it is surreal to see this aspect of his game progressing in real time. He misses some throws. Too early to tell if these are red flags, rookie mistakes, or simply missed throws (which applies to all QBs). However his completions are crazy efficient (partly because of the Shanahan system). Vs Seattle 13 of his 18 Completions went for 1st Downs (two went for 6 and 7 yards on 1st and 10). The other three went for Touchdowns. He has 1.0 Interceptable Passes per Game according to fantasydata dot com; this would average to 17 per season, on par with the top QBs in the League. That context is huge because it makes it easier to live with his tight window throws, which he doesn't shy away from. Nevertheless the majority of his throws are schemed open by Kyle, some of which rely on making the right read quickly (fast processing). It seems so simple when I look at it from the All - 22 yet it's maddening when, say, Jimmy Garoppolo misses the throw or even the read completely. In fact that's the name of the game, getting the ball to the open receiver. It's wild to think about how many QBs can't do this. Purdy is among the top passers who can. In summary, Purdy has healed from his injury, made corrections, progressed certain aspects of his game play, can throw into tight windows, and gets the ball to wide open receivers, sometimes using his feet to help him do so. He also has the ability to throw from multiple arm angles and has a great feel for where defenders are. He does miss some throws but his crazy efficiency makes up for it. He has things to work on, he is a rookie. Is the hype a little high? Perhaps, but his ceiling is sky high. He is at the very least a Franchise Quarterback for the 49ers. I suspect another video will need to be made soon. As always Alex, I look forward to all of them 👍👍

Thanks brother! I still think the hype is too high, and honestly I think he isn't playing in structure as well as he did in his first few games, but the offensive scheme and talent are both beyond elite and he continues to put up numbers.

Hey Alex. As a 49ers fan I really appreciate you doing this video. Before I share my thoughts on Purdy I want to just say that I know you've gone through a bit of a rough patch with your family, which I was disheartened to hear about. Especially around the holidays. You said that everything ultimately worked out, so that's great, but I know that must have still been difficult to go through. Glad to see that the community stepped up during this time, and provided a lot of support towards you, and your grandmother. Best wishes moving forward. As for Purdy, as interesting a story this magic carpet ride has been, I do also have concerns about the future. At first blush he seems pretty confident on the gridiron, and seems to have a really good ability to nimble-waltz his way in the pocket, and potentially out of danger. Reminds me of Romo or Brunell in that regard. However, his lack of arm talent might ultimately hold him back the longer time marches on even if he stacks more EXP. I guess I take solace that at least for this season, he still gives this team a chance to get to the Super Bowl, but I don't know about winning it all. I will say that even though he's probably in the best situation in the league in terms of coaching staff/roster talent, he should have still been drafted by some team a bit earlier. Overall, I thought your remarks were balanced, and fair. As always, I learned a lot, so once again thank you.

Thanks TLD, always appreciate your comments bro. I showed this to my Grandma and she was very happy to read it, so thank you man. My worry with him is that no matter how unbelievably loaded this roster is, to win the SB, it will at some point come back to the QB and Purdy will have to make big time throws. I don't think he can do that unless his footwork is as good as it was the first two weeks (and even then I have my doubts).

Hold up, didn't he have an injury? If he was playing in pain out discomfort, wouldn't that affect his footwork, especially since he's a 7th round rookie? I'll admit I'm not a scout out anything, but when evaluating someone so young and unknown, wouldn't it be more fair to judge him by the healthy plays? Just my two cents
