The two most dangerous kinds of orks: an ork that has been allowed to grow into a literal giant, and an ork with metaphorical gears turning in their head.

Ufthak is a former Storm Boy and worships Mork and a lot of Orks in the story make fun of him for how brainy he is. The entire book Ufthak gets mocked about how smart he is by saying stuff like “that’s some Blood Axe thinking”. Which usually results in the offending Ork getting kicked or punch to show them what’s what. He used to be a Storm Boy and although he quit to join the Bad Moons he admits he kinda misses it which speaks a lot for how and why he thinks like he does. You can take an Ork out of the Storm Boys but you can’t take the Storm Boys out of the Ork.

They end it with Ufthak knocking a Demon engine into a Volcano and stealing a bunch of STC’s Mechboss recognizing what it is and saying how with this amazing loot they can bring a Waagh to the galaxy no one has seen before.

This was one of the first books I have ever read about WH40K (besides the Eisenhorn books, as I was told to read them first) three years ago, after being introduced to it by a friend in 2018. What is so funny about this particular part in the story is how just a chapter before that, the crew of the titan is explained, characterized and overall made to be likeable. Then in the next chapter, they aren't even mentioned by name, but simply as meat bags that Uffthak smashes through. And to me personally, I at first did not realize that the people getting smashed to bits within that titan, were the previously presented characters. I absolutely loved the insanity of that story. A worthy note: I read it in German, where the book is renamed to "Der Weg der Orks" -> "The way of the orks", which I think fits it perfectly.

Orks are probably the most varied of the fantasy races based on universe. For instance, in Lord of the Rings, they're literally just evil meat-machines, lacking most culture. So, a story from their perspective wouldn't even make sense. Warhammer Orks are sentient fungi who are brilliant in their own right, yet also remarkably simple. And then we have the Orks of Warcraft, who are more or less stronger humans with a focus on spirit magic instead of arcane. I think the ones from Warhammer are definitely my favourite.

16:25 I think it's more likely that the Warhound Titans Void Shields collided with the Warlord Titans Void Shields, and since there was nobody alive inside the Warlord to control the Void Shields they got overwhelmed and some of the Void Shield Generators to explode, which combined with the Warhound slamming into it destabilized the Warlord beyond the point that the Machine Spirit could recover from, and it fell over. Void Shields can tank Nuclear Detonations....I think they can handle a few hundred-thousand tons of machinery beyond flung at them.

The reason I love the orks most of all factions is their "creativity", okay they may not be smart, may not be that strong if it weren't for their innate psychic power but damn if their minds do shine brighter than the sun sometimes, and this story was a clear manifestation of this. They even had the will to create weapons and "battle plans" to be more efficient against specific enemies, ok "most ov da plans result in a krumpin'" but they still were plans.
