The guy just lost his brother and if you watch other interviews, the news has been hounding this guy for very little reason, I understand people want a motive, but he doesn't have it. They even went as far as to ask the brother if he had anything to say to the families, literally the morning he learned his brother was dead and had killed 60 people and hurt over 200. I think he has more than enough of an excuse to freak out a little bit

I agree with this take with what we know so far. He seemed pretty scatterbrained. The point he was trying to make seems to be that transferring $100k isn't an unusual activity with that level of wealth, and that more information needs to come to light for further judgement. Perhaps the shooter transferred that kind of money to his wife semi regularly. We don't know for sure, but we probably will soon.

It may sound odd but i kind of feel for the gunman's brother, not that long ago he found out that his brother just shot and killed 60 innocent civilians. i can't even start to think what kind of mental toll that would put on some one plus he's being followed by the press constantly properly. we are seeing a man at the lowest of lows. to me it look like hes going through the five stages of grief and that's why he's being so defensive. so i kind of feel odd about Phil going crazy on him. but i may just be totally wrong, so theirs that :|

I’m not saying what the brother said was right. However, this mans brother just committed the worst mass shooting in the US. This man is probably be hounded by people looking for news. Plus he lost his brother. I can’t even imagine what is going on in that mans head. For all we know that was him just having enough of people asking him questions he didn’t know. Now I have no sympathy for this level of garbage. But I do for the family he left behind. They’re probably just as confused as we are.

Kinda disappointed on how you reacted to the gunman's brother, Phil. He wasn't the one that shot people. He wasn't defending his brother's violent actions. He was just talking about how the 100K wasn't so suspicious as people as making it. He must be torn up inside on how his brother could murder people. He obviously loves his brother, which is why this is so frustrating to him with all the media attention. I know that it would screw me up if my brother killed people.

That's what I took from it too. I think the brother is supporting the girlfriend in saying $100k wasn't that much in regards to Paddock setting her up for a good life, or funneling his money to her. He's trying to make it apparent that this was pennies compared to what his brother could have given her, had she been part of the murder spree. We don't know the whole story behind this family, but this guy has gone through something so life-shattering and upsetting. To come to terms with your own blood being a psycho and then having tons of cameramen and reporters outside your home nonstop. His life has been flipped upside down and I think he's losing it. As would anyone.

The first interview I saw - one of the earliest if not the first - the guy looked choked up when he was talking. Since then the media has been non-stop in his face. He looks angry. Who wouldn't be angry at all of this situation? Has he even had time to process alone? (Part of that is his fault too.. stay in your damn house.) But come to me two months from now when he has had some space to think and _then_ says something despicable, and I'll be more inclined to Phil's point of view. In this fresh moment, I think that if you stick a camera in someone's face, 24/7, when they are going through some of their worst moments, you really can't be surprised if you get some salt.

Yeah, I can sorta see what the brother was trying to say. The killer was supposedly a multi-millionaire, so him giving her 100k would be like the average person giving someone 50 dollars. The more wealthy someone is, the more money they can afford to toss away.

People seem to think everyone is 100% rational 100% of the time, he has been told his brother, someone who he loved, committed a horrible unspeakable crime and people expect him to act like a rational person? He is probably still in denial about it or at the very least having trouble accepting this new reality. He's right, rich people can throw more money around him sending 100k to his girlfriend probably didn't raise any flags to people around him because he was so wealthy, 100k to him could be the equivalent 100$ some like me.

It's absolutely pointless. Even if every single media outlet censored his name and face, people would still know exactly who he was from his relation to his brother and wife. In fact, people would be even more focused on that because people tend to be more interested in secretive information that gets revealed (hence WikiLeaks). It's no different from trying to hide the existence of sex from teenagers. Censorship is a complete waste of time.

Every little bit helps. In this instance, no, he won't stop people from knowing who the shooter was, but the principle stays the same. Not saying what the brother said was right, but considering how he's constantly been hounded, the loss of family, and the terrible act that his brother did.... Really going to attack a man because he didn’t phrase a statement to your liking? If you want to talk shit about the monster who shot upon a crowd and killed people, then by all means, but to attack his family is way out of line. They are equally as much victims of this as any other family who lost someone in this tragedy, and not only did they lose a member of their family, they have to live knowing someone they loved did this horrible act. They don’t have answers as to why it happened, what lead the shooter to this point, or how to move forward just like all the other families, but they are being hound because people expect them to know.
@treebark8156
@treebark8156 7 жыл бұрын
How else can someone phrase that 100k is like pennies to them? Equally as much victims? I wouldn't go that far. Unfortunate for them? Yes. Victims? Hardly. Even the brother himself says he hardly talked to the murderer anyway.
@lafxcraft
@lafxcraft 7 жыл бұрын
They are victims, the media is bombarding them with questions and I'm sure the FBI is searching their homes and constantly questioning them. They weren't involved so there's no reason to put blame on them.
@treebark8156
@treebark8156 7 жыл бұрын
Nobody is blaming them for the murder. People are blaming this guy for being an elitist asshole. It appears to be more the people defending this dude associating him with the murderer, than people looking only at what he's saying and calling him out for it, like Phil is. Another common excuse "He's being _bombarded_ with questions by the media" He has the right to deny interviews with anyone, also the right to refuse answering certain questions. Searching their homes? No they aren't doing that because he wasn't at *their* homes. So don't lie about that.
@lafxcraft
@lafxcraft 7 жыл бұрын
Because he's clearly in shock from a traumatic event and isn't in the right state of mind. The dude is probably stressed out of his mind and hasn't full processed what has happened yet. And yes I guarantee they are searching their homes too if police/fbi think they can find something useful to conclude the story they will do it.
@treebark8156
@treebark8156 7 жыл бұрын
No, I'm telling you they aren't searching their homes. Like, this is an actual fact, based on reality, not your feelings and assumptions. They're searching the MURDERER's home, yes, but he didn't live with this brother dude or anyone else. Edit: in case things change later, at this current time. You're honestly forgetting, or didn't initially know, what exactly was said to be considered a problem. Again, nobody is blaming him for the murder. Nobody is saying because he's related, that he's a suspect or whatever. They're just asking if he knows something, about something. *If he's so stressed, why is he doing so many interviews with so many news stations who are going to ask him the same questions because the news stations do not share information to keep an edge??* I keep saying this, he needs to STOP doing interviews if he's "so stressed and not in the right state of mind" He's clearly out there in the streets ready for questions. He's actively doing interviews. He has every right to refuse and deny, but he doesn't.

There's been plenty of times where he's conceded that he didn't consider all of the angles. Coincidentally, it appears that Philip himself was a bit overwhelmed by the brother's statement, and read it so narrowly that he didn't consider the overall environment that the shooter's brother has been in with the aftermath of the shooting and the predatory media.

Honestly, I'd probably just let whatever the shooter's brother said slide. His brother just committed one of the worst crimes in US history, and is dead now, and he's been bombarded by the press all week. In regards to the shooter’s brother and his comments about the money. I think that it should be kept in mind that this man is going through a traumatic experience, and is more likely than not, saying things in the heat of the moment. It’s horrific for the victims and witnesses of this tragedy. But it’s unimaginable for the loved ones of the shooter to know that their family member is a mass murderer. If it were me, I would have tremendous guilt over not seeing the signs and what I could have done to prevent it.

Not to mention he’s likely severely emotionally distressed over the whole situation in more than just frustration. I mean, what his brother did was seriously fucked up, people don’t just wake up the next day and ‘accept’ it. He has to deal with the death of his brother - whom he likely had no idea was capable of doing this thus he likely had a ‘positive’ image of him - but also the fact someone in his family caused so much damage. That’s psychologically damaging, give the man a break. This man probably woke up one morning and was told his brother killed 58+ and injured 500+ and then killed himself. People don’t just go ‘Oh, okay’ and then act calm and collected when hounded by the press for answers you don’t have.

Lily Scott It's common to send money anyhere. The issue is that there is no wealth bracket where $100k is not a lot of money. If you gamble that away in one night you still gambled away a lot of money, and I'm sure some might brag about gambling away that amount of money not because it is a small amount of money. What's more, she was evidently told to buy a house for herself and her family. According to her lawyer she felt pushed away and then given a large sum of money to start a new life. Combine that with a house full of guns and explosives and you have to being to doubt she didn't know something. I'm not into witch hunts. I will let the investigation happen. But it looks bad.

We don't yet know how his will and estate are set up, so it could be he sent her money to have until she inherits his estate, or it could have been to set her up for a life without him. But slearly this wasn't a normal action for her as she thought it was out of character.

My dad's side of the family is extremely wealthy. One of my uncles could drop 100k almost like nothing, but he would sure as shit think hard about that before he did it. There is no social class that does not recognize that 100k is a lot of money. It may not be a lot to them, but they are smart enough to know that it is a lot of money.

Literally every single piece of commentary this brother has given though is super bizarre and he's just shown himself to be a total shithead. He doesn't express shock at his "non-gun guy" brother but instead just keeps making excuses for him. I've found out people in my life whom I loved have done unspeakable things. Even when everyone asked for my thoughts, I kept them to myself until I've digested things. His own girlfriend is making more sense and responding more humanely than this rando brother of his. The point is that even if it's not a lot of money in their minds, what was it for? Was it just a "taco bell workers" version of "hey babe, here's a 50, go out to eat with your friend or go shopping"? And what does that say about how close their relationship was? It's something being brought up by the FBI, not 4chan hackorz. So the defensiveness is pretty out of left field and seems misdirected. I don't think calling the shooter's brother a fuck face was fair. He's probably having an incredibly difficult time coming to terms emotionally with the fact that his brother is a disgusting murderer, grieving for the loss of his brother who I presume he grew up closely with, as well as struggling to deal with the press who are probably hounding him repeatedly whenever he leaves his home. We talk about mental health being a huge issue in America that is a driving factor behind these mass shootings, but then we're calling someone who is obviously not mentally well at this point in time a fuck face? It's not just institutions and healthcare that need more funding, it's also important that societal attitudes change. We need to be more understanding and more welcoming of those who are struggling with mental health instead of insulting them.

People are treating her like she is like a co-conspirator when she likely had no idea her boyfriend was going to commit such a heinous act. If your girlfriend is traveling and in need of money, $100K isn't a crazy amount to transfer when you're a multi millionnaire. And as everyone that has ever been cheated on by their spouse can attest: even the person that is supposedly closest to you, can have an entirely separate life that you know nothing about. Is it really that hard to believe that an insane killer is planning to do this when his girlfriend is away traveling..?

Phil, I think the brother is having a hard time processing what happened, he talks about how the shooter was like his father. His comments about the money, I think, are a reaction to all the conspiracy theories he has inevitably already seen. I don't think he said it very well but I think his point was more along the lines of; the situation is confusing for everyone and it's important not to obfuscate important details with things that are easily explainable, at least to him.
@Zaccman
@Zaccman 7 жыл бұрын
I think you were a little harsh on the brother. If you've seen all of his interviews he appears to be exetremely confused and distraught by his brother's actions. Millions of people are now speculating about everything without any context of what a family member would bring. He's just trying to bring context to a event in his mind came out of nowhere. I'd give him some slack and wait for more information.

Zaccman2700 - I find the clip Phil showed to be what I would consider a normal reaction from any wealthy person if asked "OMG he sent 100k to his gf! Why would he send so much cash?" When for them 100k is chump change. It's like when people with zero experience shooting (especially the media) make a big deal about someone having 1000 rounds of ammo. That's one box that I take to the range for an hour or two. It's not a lot of ammo, but they make it out to be something crazy. The only absurd reaction I saw here was Phil's to that clip. Phil you normally do a good job at looking at context, but in this case you seriously over reacted.

Crow X4 You're nowhere near in the same position as him. Not physically or mentally. Imagine a family member killing 50 people for no reason then killing himself, then loads of interviewers coming to you for answers you most likely can't give. I'd be frustrated and upset and I can imagine myself in that situation. I'd go off on someone, probably, say some stupid things. And the guy is rich, that really is chump change. And a lot of people aren't that well off in America. He's not wrong. It's a tad bit rude, I'll admit, but at least he's straightforward. I don't hold any grudges with the dude with the comment from the interview at all. That's it.

Even if it was petty for him to call Trump a moron from the beginning, why feed into the news reporting on it? Plenty of people think Trump is a moron, but the important part was whether or not he was staying in his position. I couldn't relate the situation to the cheating/apartment example you offered. I agree with you on most things Phil but what you said about the shooters brother i completely disagree with. The point the brother was trying to make was that the fact the shooter transfered $100k isn't that big of a deal considering his wealth and how much he gambles. You gotta cut the guy a break considering he just found out his brother is dead and did one of the worst things possible that a human can do.

Honestly, the brother just made it clear that they feel their family is above due to finances. How dare anyone question the actions of his brother who is so rich he gambles $100,000 away in hours regularly. He completely avoided the logic of they are questioning where money went trying to determine motivation for the shootings. So the brother may think it's stupid to be focusing on money trails of a gambler, but the cops are following money trails of a mass murderer. He can't really be that oblivious though so why is he playing it off like it's a dollar and stupid to find motives and patterns? Does it lead where he doesn't want them looking? There is a difference between "can you let me grieve not only the loss of my brother physically but the loss of him as a person mentally" and "how can you think where a gambler sent a few dollars ($100,000) is important, he's just a rich gambler". The brother is stuck on the latter which means he needs watched closely. He is either involved/aware or he's already broken and who knows where the angry portion of grief will be aimed or how it will be manifested.
@iSpazURunCA
@iSpazURunCA 7 жыл бұрын
The point the brother is trying to make is that the amount isn't that much by his brothers standards, its like loose change to him, its not like he's giving her his life savings like hes about to go on a rampage and die. It is about the fucking amount because if the shooter transfered $2 to an overseas account there would be no inquiry because its only $2.

I kinda agree. I think Phil might have been in the heat of the moment and he's obviously very angry at anybody who doesn't seem to hate the shooter. I think he isn't considering that this man grew up with him, went to his birthday parties, played at Chuck E Cheese with him, was at his wedding. No matter how terrible he is it's hard to turn on somebody on the flip of a dime when you've known them for so long. Not to mention how much questioning he must have gone through. That stuff is tiring and will get somebody anxious.

Yea I would really like to hear from Phil about why he called the brother a fuck face. I’m not really a big fan of Phil using such strong and derogatory names in general but this time in particular I think it’s uncalled for. This guy was woken up early Monday morning by phone calls from the LVMPD informing him that his brother just killed dozens of people and injured hundreds before killing himself. Furthermore, reporters and cameras have probably not let him and his family out of their sights since Monday, constantly looking to asking him more and more questions. Is what he is saying stupid? Yes, but I think it is better to call this man confused, frustrated, and inconsiderate than to call him a fuck face.
@HellsSaint26

Hey Phil, I understand the backlash at the brother saying that how could they condemn him for being wealthy. But at the same time, if as he said originally is true, the brother had no idea his brother was capable of this, people around him also saying this. Psychologically speaking its like his brother dies and became a different person in the eye of the public, one who was evil, hated, and committed horrible acts against humanity. I'm not approving what he said but I also see that it comes from a place of love for his brother, the one he knew before this madness. He's seeing his family, his closest relative after his parents, completely being torn apart by the media and people (not to mention the harassment probably being given by all the people who blame his family). Believe me he completely understands the actions that took place, his brother just killed dozens of people and injured hundreds, the horrendous actions are not lost on him, but hes trying to deflect from the negative air around him. Think about it Phil, you know your dad, he wasnt the greatest growing up but you'd never imagine he was a mass murderer. But if he did something like this you'd be completely lost as to who the man you thought your father was. I'm just saying the man said something stupid but it came from a place of fear, sadness, and anger. Not hate or ignorance.
@HellsSaint26
@HellsSaint26 7 жыл бұрын
I think the heinous acts committed by that man were unforgivable, but the people around him are human, and subject to human emotions and reactions. We cant all just react cold and logically in a situation like that one. This was family. This was his heart being torn out. He's never gonna know why his brother did these things and people expect him to.

Phil, I can't believe you could call the brother a "fuck face" with a straight face without taking into account the amount of stress and harassment this man is probably going through since the shooting. This dude is probably going through the 5 steps of grief after his brother did the most unimaginable thing a human being could do. As bad as it was what his brother did, it is not in any way shape or form his brothers fault, and it is insensitive and unreasonable of you to expect him to speak normally. I could go on on how wrong you are on this one but lately I've been getting the feeling you'd just hamster any reason in your head to be right about everything you say. I'm gonna have to hand you an L today.

I've seen WAY too many posts of what happened, and who people are trying to blame. We had a bunch of nob heads on r/The_Donald post about this incident being caused by Muslims, many other people trying to shift the shame onto the 'kneelers' currently in the NFL, and as you said, trying to blame the police who tried their hardest to prevent further action from the shooter, even though they were in a situation where there wasn't much they could do. People who try to shift the blame onto others in a situation like this just shows me how little we care about the people who lost their lives trying to run from the shooter, and those who tried protecting others from getting shot. I honestly wish all of this could stop, and we as a country, should respect the people who were affected by this horrible incident.

Phil, knowing the reality of being a brother to a sister that does horrible things and hurts others and having to deal with the questions and mistreatment a person can endure after their sibling does something terrible, I think you're going in a little too hard on the guys brother. I used to work at McDonald's and a worker at Postmates came in and ordered some food for someone. The worker who was at the cashier didn't give the man his receipt, so when the food came he just started yelling "RECEIPT, RECEIPT" nothing else but that. I came over to ask him what was wrong and he start YELLING at me that he hadnt gotten his receipt. I tell him I'll print off his recepit but he starts yelling at me to get my Manager. I get my Manager and he starts screaming at her about his stupid receipt, complain that he's in a hurry and he needs it. While he's yelling and complaining to my Manager I'm printing off his receipt and I hand it to him to which he yells at us for making him late to his delivery, but all be had to do was ask politely for a receipt and we would have given him one immediately. So yeah I'm never using Postmates to order food if their drivers are all douchbags like that, I'll stick to GrubHub.

Like, can you imagine how his life has changed now that he's labled as the brother of a killer? He's probably been getting harrased too. This is probably more of a defense of his own character than it is his brothers because they're essentially being grouped together by everyone around him. Imagine if Linz or a close family member/friend just did what his brother did, and you've been bombarded by the media and the police non stop, also probably by people angry at his brother and taking it out on him. I understand that his choice of words were poor, that maybe he isn't completely seeing why he is getting the onslaught of questions, but with the human mind being the way it is, he's probably just wishing this could all be over and never happened just as much as those who lost loved ones or were injured in the shooting.
