I think it started more as a joke. He started his Lakers digs a couple years ago when TNT keep putting them on TV despite their records. The Lakers are an audience draw despite their records because of the franchise history and big name stars. They are like the Notre Dame of basketball. Mavs had zero frontcourt. Lakers had zero backcourt. Going to the NBA finals is great and all, but one player never wins a championship by themselves, a team does - See LeBron's first Cavalier stint. And whilst the trade's quality will be weighted on either player's ability to stay healthy for the foreseeable future, logically it's nowhere near as unreasonable of a player switch than some of the smoothbrained Mavs fans are making it seem. Kyrie+Klay+AD sounds a lot more coherent, especially defensively, than Luka+Kyrie+Klay, and varied offensive output is always preferable to a linear guard one.

BTW, without a real point guard, Boston has shaved off 12 points from the lead in about 3 minutes.
