Man. But if Isiah would've killed that noise in the moment, it might've changed so much of the narrative around him which kept him off the Dream Team. Refusing to kiss Jordan's ring contributed, too. But the Bird/racism thing really hurt Zeke's reputation.
@plainsimple24410 ай бұрын
@@giantkiller56 That entire thing in 1987 was said by Rodman ... that if Bird were black he'd just be considered another great/good player -- which is true because Rodman's commentary was about how the media depicted black players vs. Larry Bird, a white guy who is not supposed to be this good but if he were black, he'd get treated like just another great/good player...it's the truth but nobody explained it well and Bird wasn't even thinking like that and he knows and knew Isiah was being sarcastic and joking as if to say, 'yeah right...' but Thomas repeated what he was told Rodman said and instead of leaving Rodman out to dry and ruining Rodman's career, Isiah Thomas took on that baggage and was 'the bad guy' because he knew what the politics of the league were and he knew where Rodman came from and that could have destroyed Rodman's career so Thomas doesn't get credit for sticking up for his teammate....Bird didn't think much of it and neither did Thomas or Rodman, just the media trying to make something out of nothing...guess what? They still don't talk about how Bird made it public how he kept getting offended when a white guy was guarding him....Bird said that several times and yet nobody says anything negative about Bird and depicting stereotypes among white players -- which ultimately proves Rodman's point. I think the thing that shines through more than anything in this is how much of a competitor Larry is, not just was, but still is. The reaction when Reggie said Jokic's name, you could tell Larry has had some thoughts about playing against him more than once. The man has (fully deserved) supreme confidence but doesn't do it in an arrogant or boisterous way, even when talking about the firing of Isiah there is no second guessing or doubts, he is just confident he made the right choice. It's that extra bit of difference that makes true champions like Larry, Magic, MJ and Bill Russell.

They’ll never be another Larry Bird. Like the Legend said, he showed up every night and gave 100%. No load management whatsoever.

My dad was from Indiana and made me (at first) watch every one of Larry Bird's nationally televised games. I'm grateful he did. 80's and 90's basketball was the golden Era of basketball. So glad I got to watch all these guys play.

Bird outside of being one of the greatest NBA players of all time had a classic lunch pail blue collar work ethic, he always gave 100% effort.

It’s so awesome watching that press conference and Larry shutting those reports down in an instant. One of the humblest stars sports have ever seen. And it’s cool to see evidence from 40 years ago that he’s never changed ❤️

Love these shows with the GREAT older players! That was when the NBA was fun to watch! IMHO, the 3 point game took the fun out of the game for me. They say Steph changed the game. He sure did but not in a positive way for my taste. Take me back to the way Bird & Magic & Jordan & I. Thomas used to play…. now that was fun to watch!!! Great interview gentlemen!🙌🙌🙌👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

I think they should replace the all star game with 3 different sit downs of former players. I used to take the weekend off just for the all star weekend festivities. Now I dont even bother. Its just gonna be 40 ft shots and dunks. But I do watch the highlights.

Great interview!!! Loved all the clips and stories. I’m a die hard NBA fan since Shawn Kemp in 1991. I don’t know of a bigger fan of basketball 🏀 even when I was in the Marine Corps surrounded by football 🏈 fans I felt and still feel that basketball 🏀 is the best sport in the world! 🌎 I love this game! Thank you 😊 for this!!😅

The over-politicization and propaganda on ESPN and in the NBA turned me off to the latter. Didn't regret it at all. My brother would ask me if I was interested in going to a game or if I was watching the playoffs, and I'd firmly say, "No. Don't care." Hearing Bird talk about how basketball brings a small town community together, Isaiah speaking on the spirituality of Indiana hoops, reminds me of the beauty of the game. Which can absolutely be enjoyed on a local level, high school, college. I needed that reminder. Looking forward to March Madness. Grateful for your words, Larry and Isaiah. P.S. - Have always enjoyed Reggie's commentary, personality, and that laugh when he admires a thunderous dunk! Good to see him here. Quite the compliment Bird paid to Reggie in how he's probably one of two Larry thought prepared well to play basketball at a great level. Nice!

Outstanding to watch! Brought back excellent memories! Those that never got a chance to see Larry Bird play words, can’t describe how great he truly was! His heart, indomitable will, clutch, made up for his lack of skill compared to others but he truly goes down to me as the greatest small forward of all time!
@rashb399410 ай бұрын
I was arguing with a young hooper who claimed Bird is not as skilled as Luka therefore Luka is a superior player, and I couldn't quite explain why Bird is 5 to 10 times better than Luka as a player but I made it clear he was. I also rank him above LeBron but not Jordan overall. But #1 SF of all time definitely. For me Jordan, Bird, Kobe and even Isaiah have this insane mental toughness and will to win that it bothers me is missing from LBJ when people try to label him GOAT.

This was awesome!! Grew up a C’s fan and bleed green. I loved watching Isiah play cuz I was small and showed me that you can play small and still impact the game. The PG at that time ran the show! The battles these two had were some of the best basketball ever. And loved Reggie. Hated the Pacers and The Rifle Man. Rooted for them when they faced LA in the Finals. Jalen Rose was one of my all time favorites cuz of the Fab Five. Bring back Open Court please cuz this reminds me of that. 🍀🍀🍀

I wish I wasn’t a child growing up watching Reggie. If I would have seen his game as an adult + his personality, I would have definitely been a Reggie Miller fan. All I rooted for was MJ and the Bulls bc they were everywhere. I Hated Reggie an the Pacers. Being form Boston, all you hear is Larry Bird but I was too young to ever see Him play , but from these highlights man he was a cold dude on the court. GREAT WATCH

Saturday NBA was heaven for me as a kid. Watched a lot of Bird because the Celtics as you know were always on. Bird cam back from his back injury one game and did this amazing one-handed putback jam. That was a first seeing him do that. With some thunder to it. That was it for him. The dunk was like this great phoenix rising for one last dunk.
