Why do people complain about Hayter now? Many people defended him back in 2013, but now people seem to be attacking him. He loved working with this franchise for over a decade, and then he was just dumped in one day, without even a word from Kojima. Hayter hasn't been crying about it either. He's been very mature about it actually. He only brings this up when asked about it; he hasn't personally slandered anyone; and he says he harbors no ill well to his replacement. So kudos to him. Even when been horribly mistreated, he still acts well-composed and likable

+Pan Z I think his complaints are justified considering how much he's done for the series. I love Kojima as well but his obsession with the Hollywood "A-List" made him disrespect the great talent he was already working with. I agree, Hayter's been a class act throughout this whole thing.

Koroar Because he voiced BIg Boss in 3 other games? And Solid Snake is a clone of Big Boss, so, logically, he should have the same voice. That is why Otsuka voiced both Solid Snake and Solidus in MGS2

+Ali Dakhaikh Not only that I didnt expect him to be so brutally honest about his feelings on mgs5. I love Keifers performance as well but man my heart went out to David listening to his version of events. And not to put Kojima down at all, as Hayter said he remains a brilliant designer, but it was very disappointing to hear how little respect he seems to have for David if not down right jealousy. Especially so considering Kojima dealing with Konamis own jealousy towards his name being at the forefront of the series.

@@chriscuevas5383 I don't really think It's about jealousy. Kojima is famous and well known in the gaming world and I don't believe he really cares about such things but then again I don't know him, however I think it had more to do with the tone of the game he was trying to make and wanted something new and a bit more subtle compered to David. Such things as replacing an actor in certain roles are not always personal, and has more to do with the final product. Kojima may not show much respect for David maybe because he doesn't feel the need to get attached to the actors, because of professional reasons.
@pillar81
@pillar81 4 жыл бұрын
@@se4586 I don't think it's about jealousy either. I read or heard somewhere that Kojima never liked David Hayter for Snake, which makes more sense when David said that there were previous efforts to replace him. By virtue of his popularity and how he still had the magic as the voice of Snake, and despite Kojima's efforts, David stayed on. Kojima was probably so high on his horse that he'd use his clout to hire a Hollywood actor, which he probably wanted in the first place. He asked Avi Arad, another guy who thinks highly of himself, and he suggested Keifer. The way that Hayter was handled is ultimately par for the course in the entertainment industry. Talent is left hanging until the last minute to be told that they're being fired or being replaced. And all of Kojima's bs excuses, carry no weight for me either. Nobody else was replaced, not even the Japanese VA for Snake. And having Keifer was ultimately more stunt casting than any justifications Kojima tried to peddle. And to counter your final argument, Paul Eiding spoke about the original Japanese voice actor for Roy Campbell passing away and the decision to not have Roy Campbell from then on.
@MKDumas1981
@MKDumas1981 8 ай бұрын
@@pillar81: Personally, I never cared much about the _Metal Gear Naked_ games (PoOps and Pecker are pretty good), but, when I heard David Hayter was being replaced (Celebrity Moralist referred to him as "The Voice of a Generation"), I cared even less. The whole thing about Roy Campbell never appearing again is sad, but the problem is where he fits in the continuity. Using in-universe years, he shows up in 1999 (MG2), then again in 2005 (MGS). He's not quite himself in 2009 (MGS2), and doesn't appear again until 2014 (MGS4); additionally, he does not appear when 2018 (MGR) is shown. I don't see why Eiding couldn't play Matt Campbell in the _Metal Gear Liquid_ game that I've come up with, but we'd have to find a reason to see _Roy_ Campbell again, because, by that point, he would be between 74 and 82. I suppose we could see what happens with RAT Patrol now that the SOP system is gone, and the La-Li-Lu-Le-Lo have been taken down once and for all. I propose _Meryl Gear Solid._

the canon says he's British, not the script for the character. kojima even hand picked a British kid for mgs5. a lot of character backstory for liquid established him as British (regardless of language). it's why Twin Snake's has Naomi and Mei Ling drop their accents, cause codec convos about them established them as not possibly having one while liquid is established in story ,not Japanese vocal direction(since it's Japanese, they could've just pulled a mgs3 and pretended they were speaking with foreign accents),as being raised and trained in the UK before getting dropped in the middle east. his lore also establishes that he eventually was back where he started and continued under the British flag. I don't mean to seem rude but it baffles me that mgs fans don't pick up on this stuff told to the player immediately upon meeting these characters and often wonder what is and isn't canon despite the script/plot/dialogue saying so

DeathgGod I know everything you said, but I just thought this guy's comment, I was asking if he was actually supossed to be british in the original version since he practically said Cam did it for the lulz, not far fetched since Kojima had changed some aspects of the lore to make it less confusing for western audiences (ex. Liquid not being good at genetics due to his dominant and recessive rant, which werent mentioned in Japanese, Big Boss being in a coma, and Dr. Clark's gender being unknown un MGSV due to a translation error in the english MGS1 version.

The real mistake would have been using David Hayter to voice Venom. Big Boss wasn't in MGSV really. Hayter was never replaced for the role that was his. Richard Doyle did voice Big Boss at the end of MGS4, but at that point you had Solid on screen too and a very aged Big Boss. It was a good decision there as well not to have him voice BB.

+Hawkeyesniper45 He dodged a bullet in my opinion. Phantom Pain sucked badly, I don't understand the love that game gets. It is so mediocre that it drives me crazy to see how it got so many awards and accolades. Sure the Fox Engine made the game play better than any other Metal Gear before it,but when it came down to the gameplay itself it was just a bunch of random missions that really had no cohesiveness to them (minus a few, maybe 5 in the game tops) where you either extract or kill someone, blow something up or extract this object. That is about the whole game in a nutshell. The mother base mechanic was old and tiresome. Motherbase itself was lifeless and pointless. The FOB shit and having to pay more money to get more of those is bullshit. Waiting to develop items is bullshit. Just because the game offers you lots of ways to play the game, it's meaningless if the game doesn't adapt to playing differently. What I mean you decide to go in and run and gun every mission, the game doesn't really adapt to it other than the guards now wearing body armor and shields. They don't increase security around the bases so there would be more troops and checkpoints. They still don't do rounds checking on prisoners or even bother to notice if they are gone (something Ground Zeroes actually did, they will do rounds and check on Paz if you take her and they discover she is missing the base goes on alert. Nothing like that happens in Phantom Pain). The weather means absloutely nothing in the game so it's a pointless addition, no high winds so it screws up your aim, rain doesn't make mud so then you leave muddy footprints that guards could follow (which MGS1,MGS2 had where you walk in water or snow and it leaves footprints that when spotted the guards investigate). Time didn't do much in the game either, I almost never used the phantom ciqar because it didn't change anything. The game was a mess of ideas but none of them really are fleshed out properly.

+CF-105 Games Is it a good game? sure, I've put 200 hours in it, is it a good MGS game? hell no, not a chance, the story is so bad, this wasn't the story anyone wanted to see, we were a random medic all along, wow, nice writing there... so Liquid leaves with a huge Metal Gear and we don't get to know what happened, awesome, might as well cut the entire Eli arc instead of that bullshit, where's the game with Big Boss himself building Outer Heaven, recruiting FOXHOUND members, to see a young Sniper Wolf and Frank, and him becoming a villain, etc... I was expecting the game to surpass MGS3's story and emotional impact, instead I got a giant turd. And regarding Hayter, I don't get it, so they change him for a big actor only to pretty much have a mute Snake in this game... that's is just adding insult to injury, Kojima is a fucking scumbag who didn't even have the decency to tell Hayter himself.

The Japanese always handle things in this confusing way though, I feel like it’s just the culture difference between the two countries, look at the fact that Toyota pulled its cars from the newest forza, it made zero sense and makes a Toyota fan like me mad but they don’t care they do what they do despite the fans obvious requests

Kojima had no obligation to please an US actor who rendered just a version of a character he created first of all for a Japanese public.

@@mauriciopittaYou're right, but he could have tried to contact Hayter and explain his reasoning behind recasting him, that would have been more respectful. Metal Gear is WAYY more popular outside Japan and Hayter is a big reason why the franchise had ao much success. Kojima did kind of a dick move imo

This was so damn good. It's great to hear David finally speak more outwardly about the situation with MGS5. Kojima has seemed like a pretty conniving and slimy guy since after MGS4 and it seems many people who know him can confirm it. Thanks for the work on this, it was really cool and well-edited.

@@Koroar yawn. It’s always the same effortless response. Hayter voiced big boss in MGS3, peace walker etc. And in MGSV the Japanese actor stayed the same because he is basically a big deal over there. Kojima thinks Hayter isn’t a big deal and Kojima is all hard on for A listers it’s that simple. Kojima took an L with fans. And you seem to not be doing a good job defending him with weak remarks that can easily be refuted.

Metal Gear Solid for the PS1 was made at the right time in 1998, i was so shocked when the 1st scene came on with snake in the submarine. The scene that did it for me was when the DARPA chief dies and the controller vibrates in sync with the chiefs heartbeat forking the heart attack. Something no one talks about. It blew my mind.

That segment about the relationship between Hayder and Kojima was pretty uncomfortable. I think it's important to talk about, but yikes. It's interesting to see how differently Hayder views him versus the fans of the franchise, and how disenchanted he is with Kojima professionally. Pretty eye-opening. Granted, it's only one side of the story.

TheDrumkid92 I prefer David over Kojima. And trust his honesty a lot more. He speaks from the bottom of the heart and down to earth and real! Honestly, this could’ve been handled SO much better and with so much more respect to everyone involved. Hayter should’ve been the voice for GZ at the least, and explain the change as a story related reason. (Would not have been hard with the whole Coma thing) Big Boss’s voice had to change at some point to differentiate him from Solid Snake. But it’s also stupid that Japan got to keep the right VA but we didn’t because Egojima has some hard on for Hollywood.
@DJ_Macphisto

Yeah, that would have made sense. I'm sure there is a mod for GZ on PC that replaces Kiefer with Hayter. TPP is fine having a different voice for Big Boss, because coma.
