Came from reddit, and just want to say great video dude. I picked up the One RS as I was in the market for a new camera and loved the 360 portion of it. Gave it to my kid on a hike around the neighborhood and thought it was the coolest video I've ever shot. Can't wait to play around more with it. As for paid reviewers I am with you. I love most of the content they put out, but man I am really starting to see the sponsorship. Keep up the good work, and hope you get an RS to review!

Thumbs up for a refreshing take on the RS and the reviews. I've had a few of Insta360's cameras by now, and am interested in any new model that pops up. However, despite dozens of reviews on KZbin on launch day, most of them stay very close to unboxing, repeating the specifications that are available on the homepage plus - with a bit of luck - add a few examples of what the video and photos look like and the audio sound like. It's becoming quite easy to spot the reviewers that don't really care and definitely won't use the camera again after the review is posted. I also have this picture in my head of the buyer who mounted the camera to the bike/board and after an evening of editing wonder why he/she can't get a result looking like that fast paced, quick cut full of music and sound effects video that made up most of the reviev. And putting the camera back in the box never to be used again. P.S. Just like you I love my Insta360 and what it can do.

You are 100% correct about the review quality of mainstream influencers vs. people who actually use the camera, but you shouldn't put the reviewers on blast about it just cause they have a review you didn't like. You could have just hand waved and called out mainstream 360 reviews not being detailed and that would have been understood. Its not about how good your review is or how accurate or detailed it is, it is how much the PR team and/or Marketing Team decides you're worth spending on. At this point, you're at a lower value now than before you uploaded this video because no brand would want to work with someone who appears bitter they didn't get sponsored and started beef with someone (iJustine) who's never claimed it to be a detailed review. (That said, the Insta360 brand has gone out of its way sometimes for smaller content creators so I wish you luck.) In the end, there will always be mainstream type reviews. There will always be iJustines. But there are channels that go in depth as well. If your target demographic in the first place was the same as iJustine - the casual mainstream young person who wants a camera but doesn't have a clue what the choices are, then you can go compare your content to iJustine. If you're going for a detailed review, then compare your content to a similar type of reviewer - but also consider the channel size you're going up against. Lastly, consider the professionalism of that channel when dealing with brands vs yours. Sidenote: Or this is the strategy you chose - to pick beef with bigger creators to get traffic. Which is an entirely legitimate strategy if that's what you're going for. Think something like Camera Conspiracies. He calls out brands and KZbinrs like no other, and that even gets him in hot water. But he did get the demographic for being so likeable. All the best =)
@thejamescorwin2 жыл бұрын
All good points. Honestly, I know there’s no reason the company would actually sponsor a channel as small as mine, and they just want the exposure that comes from a channel as big as hers. I just didn’t like how fake it seemed and made their older products seem not good when they still hold their own weight. But mainly my goal was to just be entertaining and show people how I use the camera. I’m in no rush to get sponsorships and if they see that I’m a good fit for reviewing future products, great! If not, I’m just gonna continue making videos because I enjoy it. Cheers!
@RMalayeri2 жыл бұрын
Man, this is so good and so true! iJustine is a legend, but brands really do need to give opportunities to creators that aren't based on follower counts. I really loved how you made that point, and hope they reach out to you man! Looking forward to your next video 🙌

Insta360 one x2 - sad owner here ......Film at night? No its terrible.. Want to film during too much light? In the Bangkok sun... Nope the sky is too exposed. I love that they were running a competition, your best 360 video and the winner gets a insta 360 camera... like.. er, you need the camera to enter the comp. Also, if you try to use as a webcam it has an auto zoom, but its a feature that cant be turned off. I didnt have data on my phone so if I used as a camera, all the pictures were white, even though I was connected to camera on the phone, i could even control and move the cam, but taking a picture was pure white. Also also - use the camera to start the recording, and use your phone to stop it - corrupts every time I do it. All in all 0/10 camera with super slow to do anything... but 10/10 for this amazing video dude! I work in youtube SEO and moving to china as soon as they bloody open the gates! hope your doing fine and staying safe until 0% covid cases... might be a while.
@thejamescorwin2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, filming at night with these cameras isn't great, but at the same time.... not great on most cameras of this type. As for too much light, I find the HDR mode to work quite well, and if it's still too overexposed, I use manual exposure and that solves the issue for me! I do think it's quite funny that you need a camera to win a camera, but still.....free camera! Hahaha. That's strange about the webcam. I haven't had the opportunity to try that yet, but the issue you're having sounds like a bug. I'll have to give it a go and see what happens! I didn't know you could control recording with your phone, but that's even weirder. Sounds like you had some really bad luck! In my experience with the camera thus far, the only issue I had was fixed with a software update and I'm really happy with it now. I'd be even happier if the 360 resolution was higher, but that's not really a fault of the camera :P Fingers crossed they open the gates soon! So many people waiting to get in....including my family! Haven't seen them in over 2 years 😢 But actually being here is pretty great!!

But since I already have this one, I’m not in a position to buy another one, so I can’t do the review.

I totally agree with you about most of the Insta360 sponsored reviews. I have a One X2 and I've talked with a Insta360 rep and told them that I basically never use it in the ways that more sponsored videos make it look (with all the AI app tricks, tiny planet views, or fancy stuff). I said told them I found it attractive was because it was good for people taking "semi-casual" video (e.g. someone with a fair amount of photographic/video knowledge... but who is physically too busy or too lazy to go the full nine yards on creating things... like say a dad watching several young kids by himself) to get some usable footage without having to pre-plan their camera and subject movements to get precise film blocking (like iJustine with her cameraman). For instance, when I'm with my kids skiing... I can just hold the Insta360 in their general direction and I know it is always pointed in the right direction and there are going to be in the camera frame no matter whether they are zigging and zagging. When I was playing street hockey with them... the stabilization and 360 horizontal leveling worked great even though I was haphazardly clutching the Insta360 along with the hockey stick. The fanciest thing I've done is again haphazardly jam it into a cardboard air rocket... and video it getting blasted into the sky via air pump (the 360 let me pan the video to track other air rocket launched at the same time as well as removing the rotating horizon due to the rocket spinning). That being said I found the review made by photography oriented reviewers more measured. Dave Manning for instance basically ignored all the "hype" and focused on a few actual changes versus the previous model... he likes the new battery (because who doesn't want more battery life) especially because both the battery and the cage are backward compatible. He likes the new cage because it is particularly easier to insert the 4K or 1-inch mod with a lens protector, since neither have a user replaceable lens cover like the Hero9 or Hero10. He also was unimpressed that the 360 mod was completely unchanged. He did list the Insta360 as his favorite action camera because of its ability to give you an immersive 3rd person point of view. Even the Authentech review you took some video clips of... was less enamored with some of the fancy spec-lines mentioned... like he didn't find the 6K mode particularly useful (since he personally doesn't like 25 fps) nor did he find the supposedly new audio setup (extra mic, and built in wind screen) to be that impressive (although apparently that was a pre-production firmware bug) and he was less impressed with the slower slow-motion modes (only 1080p for 200 fps and 2.7K for 100 fps - or 3K 100 fps 360 video)

How’s the quality? And what format are the files? The Insta360 has a proprietary format that needs to be stitched in their software or with a plugin. Their software works quite well though, so I can’t complain. Good call on spatial audio. If you’re uploading in 360 I imagine that’d be the best choice. I usually reframe and use it in standard format, so I don’t really have the need for spatial audio.
@chrisw57422 жыл бұрын
@@thejamescorwin The quality goes to 5.6k 12fps. The videos look as good as the popular 360 camera vids I have seen or I would have bought an upgraded one by now. The camera auto stitches and also the files are standard mov I believe. Very easy to work with.

Suuuuuuuper good point. To be honest, I've never shot in 60fps just because I've never used it as an action camera, it's always been for the kind of content in the video, so even if I'm boarding or something, I was still going for the highest possible resolution since I'm moreso trying to show off the environment rather than my "action."

I am new to One RS, is this normal? My 4k 30fps footage of 40 seconds is 370MB, it seems too huge? For 350MB My Nikon Z6 full frame would take est 1 min 40 sec of footage (100sec) (in 1080, but the footage is way superior than a supposed 4k - of course, it is full frame, but that my point here is to ask about the file size, not the video quality) Is there anyway to reduce the file size?
@thejamescorwin2 жыл бұрын
4K is just a measure of the number of pixels, and says nothing about the quality of the image. You can have a 4K image that’s 100% pure black, and a 1080P version of the same image and the 4K one will be larger. Reducing file size is easy with a free program called Handbrake. It will reduce file size drastically while keeping the image quality virtually the same by saving space on redundant pixel information. Sorry for the late reply!

Just considering the fact that the hero 8 is older and the rs is relatively new, I can already tell you I’d go for the Insta360. But even more so just for the option to have 360. To me if you’re buying an action camera, 360 is invaluable.
@ErnestRamos2 жыл бұрын
Nice review. You mention "higher resolution", aren't the 360 and 1" mods the same as the old one? Does the module bump up resolution there or just for the 4k boost? I used the old OneR too (360 + 1" Leica) for my own content here in KZbin. Often times I'd use it as a secondary camera for alternate angles too like you. I'm looking into the new one to see if the new 4k module would complement the 1" Leica mod too.
@thejamescorwin2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, 360 and 1" Leica are still the same. The day they release a new 360 mod is the day I buy the new 360 mod. I wonder myself what the difference between the 1" and 4k boost is now. If the boost is the same resolution as the 1", there'd be no good reason to use the 1" anymore! Appreciate the kind words!
@ErnestRamos2 жыл бұрын
@@thejamescorwin From what I've researched so far, the 1" mod has the bigger sensor at 1" while the 4K Boost has a 1/2" sensor. However, the 1" has a smaller aperture (forgot the exact numbers) so the 4K might still be equal in low light? The Leica in theory would have better optics I guess?
@joyfulpyro25892 жыл бұрын
