My 'summer of the kidney stones' was mighty rough. What intelligent designer would allow me to process healthy nuts and greens to form spiny rocks and then force those rocks through tubes which are too narrow to allow them to pass without notice? If there is a nature designer, it's effing pathetic at design. It's like someone who designs the magnetic bits of data to be too big to be effectively stored on the disk. (or something like that)

I'm a biomedical engineer, basically a glorified computer scientist with specialized knowledge of medical data formats. We went through (VERY) basic classes on anatomy. When Dr. Ben asked how kidneys worked, I felt immediate dread. Like a kid waking up thinking they're late for an exam type of dread. And yet the caller is undeterred. Fascinating 😂

@@wmanjillFor a start we eat, drink and breath through the same hole. As a result, people choke to death every day. An intelligent designer would have made those two separate. They mentioned the recurrent laryngeal nerve. It branches off left vagus nerve at a point near the heart, loops under the aortic arch, and heads back up the the larynx, where the vagus nerve has already passed when coming down from the brain. An unnecessarily long route that also occurs in a giraffe, leading to an extra long nerve for no reason. The superior laryngeal nerve branches off the other vagus nerve in the neck and goes a few inches to the larynx. The optic nerve to each eye goes through the retina itself, creating a blind spot that our brains just ignore. That doesn't sound like an intelligent design, especially when it's not common to all animals. There are the only ones I can think of.
@hrjenkins
@hrjenkins 14 күн бұрын
@@MrNeocortex Don't forget the disgustingly weak ankle. Humans do like 1% of activity compared to most other animals. And who has more twisted ankles? We do. Why? Cuz our legs and bodies weren't designed to walk to 2 legs. It was supposed to walk on 4

I went into septic shock a few years ago, and would have died if the pain from a fall (I got a compression fracture in my spine) hadn't shocked my brain enough to get me to make a phone call for help. I was in intensive care for days. It turned out that I had pneumonia from aspirating a bit of something into my lung. It was a very close call, because of that very bad design.

I love these one-man denominations - he understands that all these groupings are bunk. But he still has this urge to elevate himself be being the image of an almighty being, that created a complete universe to house him, that he is so important for the omnipotent entity that it observes him 24/7, reads all his thoughts, even in his sleep. And by NOT belonging to any specific denomination, he does not need to align with any other ideas of "colleagues". He can pick whatever he likes from the Bible, omit anything he dislikes, no one can come with inconvenient quotes - and you can shift your position in any way you like, either over time or situational, and religion trains you to not even perceive these changes of the ONE, unchanging, eternal Truth that you own.

As a Canadian, I'm always embarrassed when fellow Canadians call in & spout such silly ignorant nonsense. There was a time when organized religion was dying in this country. A time when Pierre Berton's book, The Comfortable Pew was a national best seller & we all felt we were finally freeing ourselves of thoughtless dogma. Then came the explosion of American media & with it the scourge of foreign-based evangelical trash that unfortunately has found root in Canadian society. And when a Canadian spouts American Christian nationalism it really saddens me. They have no understanding of who we are, where we come from and how we created this wonderful progressive nation. It's a failure of our educational system.

I love your reply! I was thinking this but you said it perfectly. The whole bible is about shifting the responsibility for pain, suffering, wars, genocide, natural disasters etc. from God to Adam because he gave his dominion over God's creation to the devil and all mankind became a slave to sin. And how is this all going to reversed - in the convenient concept of an afterlife. Like Rick, I truly believed this once but thankfully not anymore.

Arguments for intelligent design are not intelligent. The human spine is NOT sufficiently evolved for our upright posture, resulting in all manner of issues with our backs and pain. I was born with a hereditary dry skin condition that the young ladies found to be unattractive and made it hard to find a partner. I have congenital abnormalities with the left side of my pelvis that is permanently injured and rather painful which affects my mobility. So DON'T tell me that I am intelligently "designed" and the caller is delusional as are all theists.if he thinks he's intelligent, or designed. Oh, and I'm also long sighted too.

The body heals...except when it doesn't or is incapable. The throat is designed to choke to death on food. The brain is designed to have innumerable faults to damage or destroy the body, the immune system so often over performs or underperforms to damage or destroy life, the GI tract can self destruct, life can continue without limb bones and/or a defective spinal column, a huge percentage of people have vision problems that can cause fatality by poor vision, all organs of the body can fail or not develop properly...often detrimental to life, the human appendix has a function but can be lived without...or potentially kill it's owner, cells become too reproductive and become cancer...including fetuses which can become cancerous (molar pregnancy) which will kill both the fetus and pregnant woman, over 50% of pregnancies end in spontaneous abortion, pregnancy can often result in the death of the pregnant animal (inculding humans), in horses...colic kills because they are incapable of vomiting, so many more design flaws in all species to list. Earth life is chance design, a design that is most likely to survive to procreate successfully, but often fails...nothing more. That designer must be both fired and brought up on charges of incompetence, negligence and fatalities.

Intelligent design? Obviously the designer is not too bright. There are so many useless body parts, and so many poorly 'designed' parts. Human eyes are absurd, feet have 23 bones but need only 3, etx, etc

Rick needs to believe all this tabloid theism or he’ll loose all hope and go back to drugs. He’s admitted on prior calls. That’s why he is so defensive and un-hinged

Yes, you have a body, but you have no idea how it works and when you don’t understand something, it’s God’s fault

I have seen some clumsy and dumb people who also have bodies but they are definitely not experts

False ! , the rib like most other large bones can be used so his " it's the only way to do it and the bible says he took a rib " ... is WRONG !

How does this caller know there is an intelligent designer behind curtains? How does it do anything? What does it look like? Methinks he is just making sh1t up.

Goofball, you AREN'T giving them reasons. You just keep saying over and over how amazing you think it all is and how it has to be designed. So childish.

How do they still let this dude on the show? So many years worth of him calling just to stick his fingers in his ears and say “La la la la la” whenever he’s faced with data, or facts, or valid and sound arguments. This guest is almost as bad as Mr. Deliceaux
