MiG-25 was designed as interceptor against Mach-3 bombers, like Valkyrie. It was never meant to be used in dogfight and frame could actually crack in high speed manoeuvres. But such bombers were abandoned so MiG-31 did not need so high top speed.
@roblockhart6104 Жыл бұрын
The Mig-25 was designed after the A-5 Vigilante. What the Soviets thought was a mach 3 nuclear bomber. They wanted one of their own; hence, the Mig-25. The original A-5 had dual rudders. Increase the proportions all around in the typical "bigger is better" Russian doctrine and you basically have the mig. See NA-237 (WS-300A competition).

The mig 25 was shown to be able to withstand 5g+ maneuvers. The thing is, fighter jets are not going to do 9+ G while loaded. That figure I'd obtained while running clean. So, in truth, it could hold its own in a fight.

No, it doesn't. The Kinzhal is not a hypersonic missile, it's merely a normal cruise missile with a slap-dash modification for air-launch and it moves no faster than the missile that it is based on (which is still "hypersonic" like every other, but speed is not what makes a true hypersonic missile special). And by "based on" I mean is literally the exact same missile, entirely, with a different name and an adjustment to be launched from a fighter. Heck, the only country even trying to develop a true hypersonic missile is the US, which has had some notable progress. Every other nation either is creating air-launch cruise missiles and calling them "hypersonic missiles" as a technicality or trying to create their first hypersonic glide-vehicles, which the US has had for many decades.

With beautifully integrated Sparrow AIM-7F missiles and now AIM-120 AMRAAM there is no loss in speed when 4 missiles are carried so there would be no difficulty in handling an MiG 31. A lot of Russians things are just 'Big" and achieve performance through size and expense such as the R-37 (4 times the size of an AMRAAM). Either way the F-15 could shoot down the MiG 31. -The SR-71 could cruise at Mach 3.2 for its entire journey and reach over Mach 3.5 (limited only by ingestion of the nose shock wave to the intakes). The single seat reconnaissance and fighter (YF-12) versions could exceed this due to the shorter nose. -The Phoenix Missile used on the F-14 Tomcat was hyper-sonic. It could hit targets at 200km in 1970s. -The US never bothered to develop weapons it could have. The Soviet Union was dead and its wasn't worth it. -There is a new generation of 4 new US AAM coming.

You only have to read what defence strategists say to recognise that this is becoming a problem for the West, particularly the United States. The MiG-31 is causing all manner of headaches in Ukraine right now because the sheer power of its radar and weaponry _can’t be countered._ It’s known to have scored at least two hard kills against Ukrainian aircraft. Might be as many as 10 but not likely. And this was done from more than 160 kms away. The MiG-31 Zaslon radar has no equivalent in the west. There is no fighter radar with that much power. The R-37 missile has proved extremely effective. Cruising at 70,000 feet at Mach 2.35, it fires an R-37 that travels at Mach 6. The kinematic advantage is obvious. Stealth was USSR idea in first place
@DIREWOLFx75 Жыл бұрын
@@Meteorknite I guess you're referring to Ufimtsev's book? But that was theory and by the time USA used it, they had already been working on RCS reduction for years. So, i'm not sure you can say it's anyones specific idea, because even just the more advanced attempts at camouflage IS stealth, and there were a bundle of attempts at "low visibility"/stealth etc during WWI for example. With very mixed results, the German attempts with "Cellon" material was a complete failure that actually made aircraft MORE visible(by reflecting more sunlight and in more directions), while the British stealthed airship worked, but it was quickly realised that it was completely useless because its intended purpose of nighttime recon, just didn't work at all. The stealth was good enough that they could fly around unnoticed, but they couldn't actually provide any useful information from it.
@Mr.Scootini Жыл бұрын
@@DIREWOLFx75technically, WW1 era canvas and wooden airplanes would be “stealth” too. Or the the very least LO (low Observable)
@DIREWOLFx75 Жыл бұрын
@@Mr.Scootini Definitely not stealth! The engines alone has so many nooks and crannies open towards all directions that it alone would be like having a radar reflector on the plane. LO, MAYBE... But having a 1-2 sqm RCS in every direction is still pretty bad when it's so blatant. If you sealed up the engine in all directions with a thin metal sheet and made sure to make it either as perfectly rounded as possible or give it a mess of angles to minimize radar returns, you might be able to halve the RCS and reach real LO. Maybe...

Very nice video, mixture of clips from tv programs, some official videos etc. Good job in the end. My only remark is that the author presents Mig-31 as some kind of hi-tech wunderwaffe. Well, it's a shooting practice for any gen. 4,5 NATO fighter, not even mentioning Raptor and Lightning II.

Why are you showing this su-30 is when you're talking about a MIG 31 thumbs down and told Google not to recommend your channel again
@jeanpierrelaolou5490 Жыл бұрын
Any country with an army trying to rationalize its means would have retired this aircraft. Apparently Russia has too much money to spend. China and India refused to buy this aircraft, which was too specialized, preferring the SU 30 with long-range missiles. The only current interest of the MiG 31 is to use a launch base at Kinjal, allowing it to claim to be hypersonic, which it is not really. With its mostly steel structure and its 2 huge afterburners, it is the ideal target for all modern FOX3 missiles.

Mig 31 was never for sale, only mig 25. Second, mig 31 works as mobile radar system 3rd Russia needs this type of aircraft because of it size. Thank you.
@jeanpierrelaolou5490 Жыл бұрын
@@HeyGoogle-gt8oc 1) It was proposed to Finland 1992, Syria 2007, China 1992 (also with licence) , India, (the Air Force Chief of Staff clearly explains in an interview why the SU 30 is better suited to Indian needs) 2) Maybe an AWACS is more suited ? 3) SU 35 can do the job as well So as I said before, if Russia managed its army rationally, it would retire this aircraft, like the Americans did with the F14 and the SR71 for example. Given Russia's military budget, it's just a dispersion of means.
@ВесельчакУ-л3м Жыл бұрын
only an amateur could make such a conclusion - a recent event with the disappearance of two Russian aircraft from NATO radars (made without a stealth scheme) In Syria, a Russian aircraft made not using stealth technology imperceptibly for a US aircraft (made using stealth technology) went into its tail and the aiming systems took the US aircraft into capture. And how could this happen ? You have only numbers and propaganda in your head , buddy - it 's time to look at the world with your own eyes and think with your own mind , not Wikipedia .
