Here in NZ meyer lemons are the standard lemon which most people think of when you say "lemon" and are available year round. Yen Bens (Lisbon) lemons only appear for a short 3 month or so season meaning most people don't know what to do with them. The classic recipe for meyey lemons is a lemon slice, for which chelsea sugar has a good recipe. We also have another lemon, mandarin hybrid fruit here called a Lemonade which is much much sweeter and people eat like an Orange. It's only commonly found in the growing regions otherwise lots of people don't know what it is yet and it hasn't made its way around the world either

I enjoy these citrus videos; they are one of my favorite types of fruit to grow and eat. With all the varieties of citrus in existence, you will (almost) never run out of fruit to make videos about (the same could be said of Passiflora species, which I noticed is the subject of your next video). It would be interesting if you could spotlight some of the heirloom varieties of citrus such as Dancy tangerine and Duncan grapefruit and compare them to the varieties (clementines, seedless mandarines, various red grapefruits, etc.) that replaced them.

My folks had one of those giant Lemon tree in their yard. It was more of a 7 or 8 sour wise tho and sweet as a Orange, maybe half a point down. You could almost eat it like an Orange. Almost. I d juice them and Oranges and mix the juice 50-50.Tasted great....It seems like citrus is more a spectrum rather then sharply defined individual things.

In northern cali, have a big Meyer lemon tree. I usually juice a bunch and freeze in ice trays, then pop out and put in freezer bags for later use anywhere I would use a normal lemon. I also like to leave some on the tree longer. The sweetness comes up and the sour down, the rind becomes much more palatable too. Are the Villafranca the ones used for limoncello?

xiangningmeng is the original historical name for this fruit. I think its more appropriate to frame Meyer's role in this more as bringing it to America rather than fully discovering it. The history of this plant is heavily focused on Meyer, and while he did popularize it, I heavily doubt that it was truly only ornamental before his involvement. Was he fluent in the language? did he get multiple accounts that it was purely ornamental? Maybe the one person he tried it from was just growing it ornamentally for themselves. It just seems highly unlikely that a culture would eat lemons, mandarins, but not a hybrid of the two? A lack of records besides Meyer's does not mean it is the whole truth, it shows that there was a lack of documentation. It is possible records have been lost to time, or disregarded by the western world of botany.
