"save this poor creature" - the damage to their MIND has already been done over 52 years of human enslavement ABUSE. Focus on the TRILLIONS of other baby animal living beings that still stand a chance. This is the thing that most people don't get, it's not the 'killing of animals', it's the enslavement/abuse (force breeding, generation after generation.......), abhorrent factory farms, sick human 'enterslavement'..... But great to see that you have finally cottoned-on to the most important matters on Earth / for humanity, Jimmy. This is the most important matter for humanity to solve today. A vision of freeing all living beings from slavery/hell on Earth. It's extremely damaging to humanity - almost (dare I say it) unforgivable. Something needs to change fast in society's mindset.

I used to work at a facility that enslaved dolphins for tourists in Hawaii. I made friends with one of the dolphins, who would wait for me to finish my shift every day then I would hang out with her and talk to her, pet her etc. She would click and squeak and whistle in response to my conversation. They had repeatedly forcibly bred her (artificial insemination / rape) and sold the babies to other facilities for $150K each. One morning I arrived to work to find all the trainers scurrying around the pool and panicking. Turns out my friend the dolphin was dead. They had recently sold another one of her babies, and she was clearly upset recently. She had refused to do shows and was being punished for that by being placed in an even tinier section of the tank and reduced food. But now she was dead. After reviewing surveillance footage, it was clear she had committed suicide. She had swam to the bottom of the tank, and released all her air, then breathed in water, something dolphins never do accidentally. I quit the same day, and have been telling everyone who will listen that these places need to be closed forever. It is so wrong to cage these amazingly intelligent creatures in a tiny tank for their entire lives. it is WRONG. No question about it.

@Psilocybe Cubensis even as a meat eater I'm almost a vegan now because of the way most farms treat their animals. My grandfather was a farmer and taught me how the animals come first to be fed cleaned brushed and let out for exercise before we got to eat breakfast. There were no problems with overcrowding. And yes I know you will say they get killed to feed us. That is just s fact of life being a meat eater. I only buy my meat from these farms and I realize that it is not for everyone but until I become fully vegan it's my best option.

Lolita 's voice was recorded and played back to her pod in Washington State. They reacted and their voices were in turn played back to her, she reacted, she is on Prozac for decades. This issue has been an embarrassment for Miami, ending it and returning her would be a bucket list item for thousands of us in Miami. Our son went to school across the street, The Seaquarium constantly had issues, our school was marine science based and we all had to quiet our voices of descent. This is so tragic. Lolita, also called Tokitae and Sk'aliCh'elh-tenaut by Washington State's Lummi Nation, deserves a better life. Her relatives (Southern Residents) spend several months of the summer and fall in Puget Sound. Have you heard of Corky? She is a Northern Resident and the oldest orca in captivity. She is incredibly sweet and gentle. She has 'adopted' and nurtured many motherless calves, including Orkid (whose mother was Kandu V, one of the orcas shown in Tilikum's documentary) and Tilikum's sons Sumar and Ikaika. Corky has family in the wild - her sister is the matriarch of the A5 pod, which also includes her brother, niece and grand-nephews. Corky has been in captivity since 1969. She lives at Seaworld San Diego.

They are killed and eaten for pleasure and entertainment. A little bit of a dark quote, but it rings true to me: "As long as men massacre animals, they will kill each other. After 52 years, and decades in isolation, the only option for this beautiful creature is to euthanize her. I hate zoos. I hate "marine parks". So cruel. So inhuman. Wow...smh. Thank you for taking on & sheding light on this issue. It's sickening, what some people are willing to do for a profit & how many more are willing to turn a blind eye to such cruelty. We must stop this abuse & set a new standard of treatment for all earthlings, not just the humans! Blessings to you Jimmy for being brave enough to speak out. Also, plz be careful w/ this issue; once you're on their radar, you will be targeted & likely "acted upon" as well. So, C.Y.A. brother, they won't go down w/o a fight & they fight dirty! My dad was a writer for Sea World in the seventies, so when I was in college I got to take my girlfriend and me to the park and we did some shrooms. I’ve never been angrier and more broken hearted than the little p.o.s. kids slapping the water and screaming at the poor dolphins. I wish I never remembered that again and how infuriating and inhumane it is to keep these noble majestic animals at any zoo or water park. It truly makes me want to string the CEO motherfuckers who profit off that shit up by their fucking balls. Fkg absolute monsters and people should not support such places. They were giving fkg animals at zoos their disgusting experimental mRNA gene therapy injection for coof too. Poor helpless majestic creatures.

This gives me serious cognitive dissonance…I just don’t understand how this could possibly happen in our world today. Looking at these animals is majestic but when you learn how intelligent and emotionally intelligent they are, it makes their existence truly special. They are so unique that they speak different languages within families as just one simple thing to express the extent of their intelligence and emotional connection to family.

I feel your sentiment, and in principle animals should not be in zoos or aquariums. However, when the 27 year old orca Keiko was released from the Mexico City aquarium in 2003 and brought back outside Iceland (where he was captured as a two year old), he was introduced to other whales. But soon found himself alone along the Norwegian coast seeking out people. Keiko only lived for a total of 18 months in freedom over there, and died alone in a Norwegian fjord from pneumonia and other causes. Having been in captivity for that long, it’s hard to go back to the wild. Lolita, 50 years in an aquarium, it’s like a life long prison, having been “institutionalized” among people, and going back to the wild brings no guarantee that she will be accepted into another orca family. And hunting alone is not an option for orcas to survive. I guess perhaps, the goal is to get her released, and then she can die in freedom …?…

But he lived and died wild and FREE as they all should be! In Toki's case she would be in a sanctuary in her native waters where her family, L pod, still lives. Even her mother, the oldest wild orcav alive L25 Ocean Sun is still alive!

Maybe she can be released as those that were released before her to suffer an early death. To be alive, fed & tended to vs thrown into the wild to fend for yourself & die shortly after, as those before her did. She knows nothing of the wild. She needs a larger facility. Releases have been tried in the past & they're all a failure. To live with your needs met vs to die alone.

That's basically how it is now. What you see left are grandfathered in. Mainly due to property rights and the fact the stress would kill over 90% of marine mamals. They are very sensitive to being pulled out of the water and being moved around. It's basically a compromise. Also these marine parks are hurting BAD for money and are basically on life support. Stop demonizing them and work with them. This comment section is so ignorant and oblivious

Thank you for showing this specific story and bringing to light the problems of cetaceans being kept in captivity. It is one thing to have a huge enclosure for many animals which, lets be honest is still too small for them. But it is one thing to do that, and have a single animal that has the potential to be even smarter than out closest cousins the Chimps and Bonobos in a tiny tank in complete isolation. Black fish opened my eyes even more so than Free Willy 1 and 2 did. Please people, lets get her out of there and HOPEFULLY release her back into the wild! That is a stretch, but we can all hope for it ultimately.
