Pierre Gasly, Carlos Sainz, Lando Norris and Lewis Hamilton ALL deserved Driver of the Day. Gasly - what can I say. Stunner. He held off the much faster McLaren without making a single mistake. He SO deserves to escape from the poisoned chalice of having a Red Bull seat, as Ricciardo and Sainz have done, and win more races in the future! The McLarens meanwhile ran second and third *on merit* at the start. Carlos needed one more lap to win, he also drove incredibly, and he would've been on the podium regardless today - unbelievable. As a McLaren fan, I really wish the first half of the race had been separate from the second half, so we could've had TWO stunning races - one with both McLarens on the podium, AND one with a crazy Gasly/Sainz battle for the win! Meanwhile, Lando jumped Verstappen and Pérez at the start, made an incredible pass on Bottas, and after the restart, held off Bottas for in the Mercedes for 25 laps!! Wow! And finally, while Bottas struggled to pass anybody today, Lewis made 8 passes in 12 laps. If this were any other race, Lewis would be Driver of the Day without a doubt - it was a 2006 Turkey GP2 style performance. With the speed he showed, I reckon he could've won a standard 53 lap race from the back of the grid - his supposed championship rivals Bottas and Verstappen, even in the first half, weren't doing anything!

Before Hamilton took his stop-and-go I was really curious what he could do from the back, since Bottas (or anyone else in the top) couldn't overtake anyone. I wasn't disappointed. He closed a 25-30 sec gap after which he went from 17 to 7. This all in 25 laps, while having a car which has difficulties with overtaking and overheating. He didn't need the points, but went 100% anyway. This was an amazing and very emotional race, but as a Hamilton fan, this was the icing on the cake.

It just shows why Hamilton is a 6x WC. His recovory today was brilliant. 10 more laps he could of got a podium and if happened af the start, he probaly would of still won. He really was in a class of his own today, along with Gasly and Sainz

Italian here, watched the race at home. Wasn't expecting to hear the Italian anthem at Monza, so when Gasly won and I realised that Alpha Tauri is an Italian team I teared up a little bit. If there were some tifosi there the celebration would have been OUT OF THIS WORLD

I was so emotional at the end of the race that it took me a good half hour to calm down. So happy for Pierre, so gutted for Carlos, happy for Lance - he's really come into his own this year. I hope people stop picking on him now (I admit that I've not been the biggest fan, but this year he's changed my mind, so absolute props to him!). I couldn't stop sniffing back the tears and giggling at the same time during the podium ceremony. Watching the three messing about with such joy on their faces was something I haven't often seen in any series in getting on for 50 years as a motor-racing fan. I've seen disbelief, usually on the face of one driver, I've seen joy. But three grown men laughing with such obvious boy-like delight... I can't remember seeing it before. Maybe I'll remember an occasion later on, but I doubt it. I was incredibly relieved that both Ferrari drivers escaped their incidents unhurt - just imagine how terrifying it must be when you realise at 200 mph+ your breaks don't work! I've been a passenger in a car on a motorway when that happened and that was scary enough! Mercifully the driver (now hub) managed to get off onto an off-ramp and drive it up a steep embankment to remove the speed. In an automatic... No crash, we even managed to drive home using the hand brake, but that moment of realisation was absolutely terrifying! So my heart was in my mouth seeing Seb crashing through those (thankfully polystyrene!) markers. And of course, Charles' crash was equally terrifying. I'm sure I got more grey hairs yesterday. I was absolutely gutted that Latiffi couldn't get that point. And though I'd been so emotional by how the podium turned out, and excited by Lewis' comeback (41 races continuously in the points iirc?), it was hearing the Williams boys thanking Claire and Frank that broke me. Just thinking about it is making my eyes water again. I've been watching F1 since before Williams really became a team as we know them to be in the late 70s and been a fan ever since. It's not going to be the same, but I wish everyone there every success and am looking forward to the day when the name returns to the top step. Who knows, maybe the next generation of the Williams family will somehow get involved? Definitely not an impossibility.

To be fair to Hamilton he was pulling it off the slipstream, but he definitely wasn't struggling to pass, he made up 20 second through traffic and only ended up 2 spots behind Bottas.
@billyclark64934 жыл бұрын
8 seconds of that was catching the last car at first, then between Perez and Kyvyat there was a 3.2 second gap and then the 2 second gap to ocon all in clean air made up for 13 seconds roughly in clean air. Not taking away from him about getting to 7th though
@bobthorton77444 жыл бұрын
Billy Clark I believe they said that, at Monza, the air disturbance can be felt by cars up to 5 seconds behind (hence how important the tow was for every car in qualifying) so really, he didn’t have *that* much clean air. So... yeah, he certainly wasn’t struggling. With maybe 10 more laps he could’ve been fighting for a podium or the lead

it feels like that bottas is a lame duck in compare with Hamilton. i dont remember when he challenged hamilton in the last years. bo question what hamilton is delivering is very good, but i wished he would have to work a bit more for his current series and dominance

Thank you. I loved his comment at the end of the race - after being happy for Pierre (and I genuinely believe he was happy for him. His eyes were smiling - that's something that can't be faked. Source? Mum of 4 and I'm bloody hot on reading eyes. I can spot a lie a mile off with one eye shut and my glasses off), he said he had a lot of fun coming through the field. Yes, some drivers (who didn't have to because no blue flags) let him go, but others made him work for it. And he ended up 2 places and because of the fastest lap, 1 point behind his nearest rival in the championship, so that was one hell of a drive.

@Presley Mpunga bottas does his job MOST of the time. But this race, he should of won. If he does this too much, he should get replaced by Russel.

Amazing race!! I watched it on Monday knowing about the result and nothing else (because of course the one time I sleep in, the race has to be awesome), and it didn't disappoint. So happy for Pierre, Carlos, and Lance. I can't wait for the regulation changes to come into effect in 2021 so that MAAAYBE we can get a few more unexpected podiums like this in future seasons. I shouldn't have to constantly look to the midfield for most of the good racing.

Without the penalty, Gasly would have never won the race. Hamilton had the fastest lap about 6-7 times. When Gasly can beat Hamilton head to head, then it would be an achievement. Gasly is still 122 points behind Hamilton for the Championship.

I slept late this morning and woke up expecting to only see MAYBE the last couple of laps. Much to my surprise, they were 5 minutes away from the restart and the first thing I heard was "Hamilton and Giovanazzi have stop go penalties they'll have to serve after the restart." Needless to say, the morning fog in my brain immediately cleared and I got to witness the better half of the best race of the season so far! Thank you for entering closed pits Lewis! Do that every other race (at least), please!
