So I can't blame you for noticing ons and not the others being flawed. And before anyone asks me why I think ASOIF is bad, think about why Martin can't finish the series. He wrote himself into a corner and needs to figure a new ending because he saw the one he gave the outline of disatisfied the audience when made into TV.

I recall seeing old cartoon conspiracy theories about the various characters representing the 7 deadly sins and that was actually my first introduction into the web's corruption of Spongebob. I've noticed Spongebob is most often the target of this with creepy animations and alike being made to this day. The red mist seems like the most obvious example but those old Spongebob in saw videos follow the same line of thinking in taking a loveable happy character like Spongebob and putting them in a scenario that directly challenges what the character stands for. It's unironically a great character study when you think about it because Spongebob both as a show and character is about as positive as you can get so seeing him in intense scenarios challenges our notions towards those emotions.

Theres still one part of OG Squidwards Suicide the works for me. Spongebob booing being Squidwards breaking point. Not to say that Squidward is used to being booed by the other residents of Bikini Bottom, its more so the one person who is really always there for him despite him trying to push them away, has finally joined in on the torment. That last little hope of him doing something right with his dreams or hobby, dashed by the single crescendo of boos from the one person who would never ever do that to him

Another great piece of lost Spongebob media is the uncensored Sailor Mouth. According to Tom Kenny, the actors decided to actually curse when recording their lines since it was easier than pretending to curse. There is supposedly a copy of the episode that cuts none of the swearing out, but it is stored in the Nickelodeon HQ and will never be released because of how inappropriate it would be

I see the red mist as just depression. It took over Squidward until it made him commit self-unaliving. It was starting to get to SpongeBob until Squidward says he's here again, ending with a sad happiness that when you're going through a tough time, sometimes a little support from friends can be life savers

honestly, vibingleaf's remake of red mist is such a good story, even entirely apart from the horror context. excuse me while i nerd out a bit. obviously, its a creepypasta remake, and its meant to be.. maybe not outright *scary,* but unsettling, upsetting, tense, etc etc. the more "quiet" aspects of horror that don't always get talked about. it also, honestly, falls in line with the spongebob universe. if spongebob were a much darker show, more adult show, i could buy it. i haven't seen the show in a long time, so i don't really know if this still tracks, but Squidward was a punching bag for a LOT of episodes back when i was still actively watching it -- especially his music and art. any attempts he made to legitimize his hobby always failed and was boo'd and made fun of. the only person that didn't was spongebob, no matter how terrible squidward was to him. squidward performing a concert only to get boo'd is something that HAS happened in the show before. hell, even squidward committing suicide was joked at in one particular episode -- "are you happy now?", where SpongeBob is trying to give Squidward a happiest memory, but it keeps failing. there's a bit where squidward is hanging something, and the idea is that it sort of looks like a noose, but he's actually pulling up a scallop cage. then there's the joke where he acts like he's sticking his head in the oven, only to actually pull out a pan. all that to say, these sorts of things aren't foreign to spongebob, even the ACTUAL SHOW. obviously, squidward pulling out a gun and shit is way off, but the general *tone* is.. honestly, albeit much more extreme, pretty inline with some aspects of the show. vibingleaf's remake turns it from a torture porn, "ooo this is so scary", to a truly.. *human* story. its not just squidward being creepy, it's squidward *genuinely* suffering and spiralling into depression. the straw that breaks the camels back, even in the original story, seemed to hinge on *spongebob* booing him -- someone else in the comments already said, but spongebob has always been the *one person* who would NEVER do that to him. it punctuates it with an even darker despair, that squidward is finally facing the idea that everything *is* that bad -- what are you supposed to do when even the *one person* who has ALWAYS supported you finally seems to give up? ending it all is.. honestly, a very human, very *real* outcome. some people might genuinely go that far if something like that happened to them. spongebob and patrick's reactions at the end genuinely made me tear up the first time i saw it. obviously, the original story was "unrealistic" in how SpongeBob treats him, but even more unrealistic to imagine that he wouldn't *care.* throughout the *entire* series, spongebob has been basically the *only* person who considered squidward his friend or even just.. *cared* about him, even when squidward pushes him away. spongebob WOULD be heartbroken, despair-ridden, however you want to call it. not only that squidward did that, but that he didn't *do something.* the conversation they have at the end is.. honestly, it stops being a ~ spongebob creepypasta ~, and it becomes a very real depiction of what those affected by a loved one's suicide would feel. spongebob blames himself and despairs, and the only thing that stops the red mist from taking *him* is that.. he has patrick. he's not *alone.* he has somebody there to be both a voice of reason and a voice of *comfort;* someone to say.. you did everything you could. you cared, you tried.. but you just can't save everyone. sometimes there *isn't* anything you could have done. it doesn't mean you failed, or that you were a bad friend.. it just means that they couldn't take it anymore. patrick stops spongebob from falling down the same spiral that squidward did, though. it was honestly heart-wrenching to see the first time. vibingleaf is an amazing creator and artist *in general,* all of their retakes are wonderfully done, but red mist succeeds both as a horror *and* just.. an emotional story. you really aren't alone out there. no matter how dark it seems, how tough it is to just get out of bed.. someone out there cares for you. someone loves you. your smile makes somebody's day. somebody would miss you more than their own life if you were gone. i know it sounds cliche, and i'm just some rando online, but the world is *better* because you're in it. i won't sit here and spout the "it'll get better, just be happy!" nonsense, because i know you're probably sick of hearing it just as much as i was. what i will say, though, is this. one day, you will wake up, and you will be happy you stuck it out. no matter how rough it is right now, one day you will have something that makes you glad that you decided to stay around. you're not wrong for feeling the way you do, but there are so many more sunrises to see, so many more good meals to eat. so many more jokes to share. and if all you could do today was get out of bed, then i'm proud of you. one day this will get easier. i can't say when, but one day it will. i hope you'll stay around to see it. ❤

i've seen enough corrupted/creepypasta's/ARG's to where i'm kinda used to seeing it. but my friend wasn't. so a while back, we were watching a meme compilation. this clip came up that was meant as satire on these 'arg/creepypasta's'. showing patrick being faceless, which was obviously a animation error, being a link to a faceless humans cult. playing the wyoming incident music, and showing obviously photoshopped images of people without faces. I immediatly started giggling because i reconized the satire in the clip, but my friend got freaked out by it and asked me to skip it. But for how influential Spongebob was to pop culture and the real world, especially children, the internet will alter the innocence of an absorbant and porous sponge and turn his sea follies twisted, like they did with more innocent IPs, specifically from comics to video games such as Garfield(from r/i'msorryjon to Lasagna Cat and it's finale Sex Survey Results which had what I consider one of the most WTF endings in a webseries ever created), and Sonic The Hedgehog(examples include the fanbase, Chris Chan in general, the first design of Movie Sonic, literally Sanic, and creepypasta like .exe). We have Spongebob but vulgar with many KZbin Poops of the show made to this very day, and need I say more about Squidward's unsure face CG model where he stabbed Patrick to death, realistic Patrick, fan theories or Spengleblab.

Something odd I've noticed about these Creepypasta callbacks is that, despite them being very simple and somewhat childish stories, a lot of people don't seem to "get" them. In both Bart's and Squidward's stories the hyperrealistic stuff is just there to set the mood, but even back when people thought these stories were good, everyone (from both their haters and copycats) acts like that's their main source of horror. Like even the narrators of the stories aren't scared of that, they're merely confused by it. But I guess it makes sense, as silly as the concept of "hyperrealism" is, it's more memorable for a 12yo that has never heard that word before than their dumb twists of "The Simpsons have predicted the Apocalypse!" and "A sick psycho pėdō works at Nick and gloats about his horrible crimes by putting them on a Spongebob episode!"

I remember seeing this one series of short Spongebob horror animations on Instagram once that i'm not sure how to find anymore cause i don't even remember what they were called, but essentially i think the premise what that some... Thing, some phenomenon, was causing the Bikini bottom residents to become horribly mutated monsters. Sort of like Bikini bottom horror but i think it was it's own thing entirely since searching Bikini bottom horror doesn't seem to bring up what i'm thinking of. It used a combination of repurposed animations from the show and taking screenshots from the show and animating those to fit the narrative, the newly animated bits specifically i remember having this really uncanny and bizarre movement to them that's difficult to describe. I specifically remember two moments from this animation. One that reuses an animation of Spongebob seeing a full moon and becoming a werewolf originally used as a sort of halloween bumper for Nick (similar things were done with the other shows airing at the time) And another where Krabs tries to fight one of these creatures off before a screenshot of Mr. Krabs having seen the aftermath of Spongebob dismantling the Krusty krab and literally falling to pieces, only edited to be a lot more gory and bloody, and at night. I think there were also scenes where Sandy tried to defend herself but was ultimately killed as well, and a scene where various background fish are morphed into creatures as well, possibly using scenes from that one episode where Patrick makes his own song that causes the town to become upset. In the latter case, i think there was also a specific shot of a fish's head exploding from Patrick's music, repurposed here by adding a blood effect. If anyone knows what i'm talking about, feel free to comment what it is, if it's impossible to find for any reason then i suppose feel free to make this an official lost media case or whatever. Edit: Actually i just saw a screenshot of Mr. Krabs sobbing on the floor but similarly fallen to pieces like in the strike episode, i don't remember what episode it's from but i think that actually THAT image was the image used to depict Mr. Krabs ripped to bloody pieces, and his tears were recolored to look like blood.

Personally as long as it’s kept from a very young demographic and it’s not too too poorly made with a serious topic involved, having horror and kids media combined isn’t necessarily scary at all but rather kinda cool as long if used right. Like a different AU with a different story rather then butterflies and rainbows. Like Vibingleaf Squidward which was executed well and really good. Overall really good. Conspiracy theories involving horror however is just goofy. It’s usually “he’s in a coma” or “based on a real crime”. I mean even if SpongeBob cast is based on 7 deadly sins who cares? How does that ruin your childhood it’s not even scary or dark??????

It's called "i was a teenage Gary" SpongBob and Patrick go to a Jellyfishing covention and Squidward is left to watch Gary ​@@divinelilvirgo Squidward neglects Gary for the entire time Spongebob and Patrick are away and when they get back, Gary seems to be sick. The doctor is called, and he gives Spongebob some kind of shot for Gary. Gary just drinks some water, and then he's fine. Spongebob gets pricked by the needle later and turns (sort of) into a snail. He goes to Squidward's house, freaks him out, and chases him around. Lots of crashing noises and chaos, then we cut back to Squidward's living room with broken furniture everywhere. He gets up with the snail shot stuck in his nose. (Bubble transition, I think) to Gary, SnailBob and Snailward meowing on a perch for a few minutes. Patrick, annoyed by the racket, rises from his rock yelling "will you be quiet already!" and throws a boot, which hits Snailward and knocks him off of the perch, cue very annoyed meows from him, and the episode ends

I can usually have a decently good tolerance for horror, but I personally literally cannot look at The Bikini Bottom horror comic. The imagery is so detailed in the art that it feels wrong to look at it, which in a way kinda adds to its narrative I suppose, I just personally can only take so much body horror. I also have really bad trypophobia and a lot of the art depictions trigger that for me so I just don’t look at it, but despite that I give major kudos to the original artist. The way they’re able to capture that hopelessness in the comic is really something, and specifically the image shown in this video of the ginormous Patrick creature towering over the Squidward creature is seriously such an interesting piece on its own. I’ll always find it interesting how Spongebob seems to be an artistic baseline for several different kinds of horror, wether it’s the creepypastas, artwork, or those trippy ytps that were popular back in the day, etc, it’ll always intrigue me about how people can use such an optimistic source to artistically depict existentialism in a way. It’s almost psychological.
