I just hopped on the blog and did some quick math. The last 5 guns that Hop reviewed MSRP'd for $2,601 IN TOTAL. As in, for the price of this gun you can get a Ruger MPR-16, a Taurus 856, a Taurus G3 Toro, a Taurus TX22 Competition, and a Springfield XDE - aaand have about 700 bucks left over for therapy to work through why you bought a Springfield in 2021.

@@intothefeints8506 It's mainly because, after a certain point, an expensive gun starts diminishing in returns. A gun can be expensive for various reasons. Sometimes it is due to availability, collectability, and aesthetics. But buying an expensive gun doesn't always mean you are getting the greatest performing firearm. In fact, a lot of "cheap" firearms will often do 80% or more of what an expensive gun can do. Then you can just do things like replace grips, polish contact points, change sights, replace parts, and all of these things are usually good ways to vastly improve the quality of a "cheap" gun. Not defending Taurus. But a lot of people kind of just follow the norm instead of understanding what really makes guns expensive. Some expensive guns are worth it. But sometimes, all you need is a decent reasonably priced Ruger, S&W, etc., some basic gun smithing improvements, and practice.
@leroyatleroys

@@intothefeints8506 That is usually because some people just don't have the budget for a 500 dollar gun. That's more than a game console or a set of new tires. Some people just don't prioritize guns but need one for defense or they like to plink a little. Still, 300 dollar guns can be great if you know what to buy. Taurus has gotten a little better in quality lately. They may not really be the best, but some are more than worth the money. Then you have surplus guns which people are more aware of now, but you can still find a few gems. Like the CZ-82. I spent 250 on one. It fits very well in hand despite being a mid sized pistol, very comfortable, reliable, and it is one of my most accurate pistols. Granted, the average consumer doesn't always know which cheap guns are a good value. But they are out there. Personally, I always tip off my friends on good deals. I have expensive guns too these days. But years of being a broke college student who loves to shoot taught me some things.

@@intothefeints8506 Cause of the pandemic buying panic a 350 dollar gun is going for more like 450. A good example of that would be the Canik 55 TP-9 they were the perfect example of the 350 low buck handgun. They’re going for around 429 right now. Given the current panic it’s gonna the a while before before they prices come back. Still 3,300 bucks for what’s a world class true “Working man’s work of art” is actually available to buy. A Korth is in the same league as the 73 but I’d still take the 73. For what this thing was built to withstand this is a gun you'll leave to your grandson, chances are he’ll leave it to his grandson

For sure, this is the best revolver in the world. I'm a French policeman and I used it at the World Police and Fire Games in Barcelona in 2003. I got the gold medal in Police Action Pistol with this gun. My French friend David got the same medal with the same gun at the 2001 WPGF in Indianapolis. At this date, US competitors used only Colt or S&W revolvers and laugh about us... but since this competitions, this revolver changed the rules ;-)

May I suggest to my American friends . Regardless whether our Yan33 is really a French guy . Just because a revolver is American doesn't mean it's the best . 1800s US wild wild west notwithstanding . The French went to an awful lot of expensive to produce this 4 inch revolver. Clearly 357 mag was an inspired choice . A comment made here was loads of cheap hand guns when you only really need one to do the business . Why not a revolver that shoots like a rifle at 100yds? Astounding quality . If you want to collect guns like a dealer whatever floats your boat. If you want to use a handgun for what it was designed for then stump up with the $ for ONE handgun or accept you are a dreamer . From an Aussie mate DownUnder. I surmise the French got an American gun designer. Gave him a blank check and told him to design his dream revolver for the job haha . Who knows ?

@jmalcolmg123 Contrary to what people keep saying, you can own and shoot pretty much any gun in France, provided you have the right authorizations. What the general public can't do is carry, open or concealed, and if you happen to get a carry licence, your life is probably already in danger, or you are one of a selected few with very good reasons. Protecting your life and family is unfortunately not a reason enough in France, that's the bolchevik France we have now as you might already know, but I'd rather not start with politics. In fact before WW2, French were allowed to conceal carry, but today most people think that guns are bad, and gun owners are probably bad too, but when they get in trouble, they call someone with a gun. One of my brothers who was colonel in the Gendarmerie never understood why civilians had the right to own guns (Gendarmerie is like Police, but it belongs to the armed forces). If you are not already a gun owner, you first have to get a shooter licence from the FFTir by joining any shooting club, and it is for sport only. You pay a fee for a year, and your doctor will have to validate your licence before you can buy anything gun related. That's usually not a big deal except you are a complete psycho or have a severe mental/health condition. With a validated shooter licence, you will be able to get bolt rifles in any caliber you want, and that's basically it without additional paperwork. For revolvers, pistols, anything semi-automatic, you will have to practice first in your club, and when you are deemed fit, you can then apply for one of the 12 semi-auto slots French can get. Yes 12. You can get as many bolt action rifles you want, but semi-auto, it is only 12, and in order to get a semi-auto, there will be a nice amount of paperwork to do. Except maybe for the first time, there is nothing over complicated, but still a lot of paperwork. It would be nicer without, but it is how it is. Once you get your authorization, you can order your gun, and once you get it, it will have to be stored in a safe at your main home location. If you are a hunter, that opens more possibilities with their responsibilities too. There are tons of rules and legislations changing all the time about ammo, storage, quantities, and that's sometimes ridiculous, but you can however get whatever gun you want. So summarized, sparing you a lot of useless details, in order to get a revolver in France, you have first to be a licensed shooter and then get an authorization for a revolver in order to be able to buy, "own" and shoot it.

Manurhin revolvers are popular among the best competition shooters in Sweden. Yes, they are expensive here as well (but not more expensive than in the US, which is really uncommon). In Sweden the MR73 has been sold in many different calibers - from .32 to .357 magnum for a long time (from what I have seen), as both SA and DA guns in many calibres. In most European countries you can only buy SA revolvers, but in Sweden & Norway we do a lot of "Field shooting", which requires DA revolvers. You probably know all this, but I wanted to put my mark on your awesome channel!

Yeah the only gripe I have with 32 Caliber version is that the Barrel rifling twist is at 1 in 18 3/4" , too frigging slow to stabilize the slower moving 32 long target loads. Out of 10 shots there's always a couple of inexplicable Flyers. The ideal twist rate is one in 10 in.

Phantom; I have a S&W Mod 28. I have been feeding full house loads regularly for forty years without one single failure of or flaw. It will reliably hit man size targets at two hundred yards all day long. It is easily adjustable. The quality is just as good as the manhurin. The finish is shinier on the French gun but shiny is not what takes down the bad guys. If you want a shiny 357 then buy the S&W Model 27 instead. It is the exact same gun only shinier. It is a glittering jewel next to its poorer cousin the Model 28. My Model 28, firing many different loads, will maintain a 2" group and UNDER at fifty yards. At seven yards it cuts a single hole. You do not need to spend Over $ 3,000 to own a pice of equipment when a far less expensive item is available. However, if the issue is that you only want the most expensive, because it is the "cool" thing to do and it is cool because it is the most expensive, please have fun with your new toy

You may have wanted to specify that Manurhin is an abreviation for Manufacture de Machines du Haut Rhin (East of France) le Rhin being a river that separates France from other countries (Germany, Swiss). Manurhin designed and manufactured the MR73 initially, and then stopped to make the guns. The production line was transferred to Chapuis Armes in France who continued to manufacture the gun as per Manurhin's specs. Chapuis Armes was acquired by Beretta. I don't know how the ownership change may affect the manufacturing of the MR73. Manurhin was only concerned and obsessed with quality assurance of their products. The product line did not change until they decided to shift their interest and sell the line to Chapuis. I hope that Beretta will keep the manufacturing line intact, using the same people that transferred from Manhurhin to Chapuis. This revolver is truly manufactured like nothing else of that kind anywhere. Not even in Germany. This is also a reason for the high price it commands. I visited the factory when I was in the army, and the production line was nothing like a modern line. Highly specialized artisans working at their bench. Each component truly checked for dimensions and imperfections, and rejected if not correct. You can get used ones from shooting ranges at half the price sold here.

Fucking same, tbh this one pistol is like the only one you need, maybe not for proper concealed carry all the time, 24/7, as its on the more heavier side, however as much as the weight might be an issue for long time carry i think it might be manageable, especially with the 4 inch (Gendarmerie) variant which i personally think is the best variant in terms of balance for an already insanely well balanced gun, and with the holster type specified in the video I think this will make the ultimate gun for a true precision revolver jack of all trades kinda thing, its why I just love it, if I had $3,000 that didn't need to go into anything else important then fuck yes gib that revolver rn

I'm french and the price here is pretty much the same (a little bit less), around 2300 euros (2700 US dollars). The good thing is that when it comes to second hand Manurhin, you can get it for less than a thousand dollars with the amazing fact that pretty much all the MR-73 and MR-88 that are second handed comes from Gendarmerie officers. (Second handed MR-88 are around 500 dollars). Another amazing fact is that GIGN are still using them along with Glocks. You can easily see some MR-73 from some officers during Paris Attack. Officers with shields are using it a lot.

They probably still use them now under certain conditions. All of us their training got to shoot with their 4-6x scopes mounted on them and the accuracy was astounding. Maybe many revolvers can match its accuracy but I’ve just never shot them 400m with a rifle scope. All of us there where skilled marksmen already but all 12 Americans could hit an 8x8 at 400m.

Some info for prospective buyers: K frame Safariland Comp 2 and HKS-10 speedloaders work. Nill grips may not work well with speedloaders, depending on which type you use. Old school wood or Trausch grips are good to go. Open top K frame holsters fit well. If you get a thumb strap holster the strap will be too long and will have to be modified for a proper retention fit. Hope this helps!

If you have a smooth double action and don't have it drilled in your head that double action is more difficult it's in some ways easier to shoot accurately. From my experience I believe a big part of it is when you have to pull that trigger so far and heavier than most semiautos you can't relax the grip early, a lot of shooters jerk the trigger moving the muzzle offline as the gun fires, harder to do with a DA revolver.

@@georgebigr It just requires a different style of trigger control, if you're hitting at 100 you must have it, if you grip hard enough you can hit a single action trigger pretty hard without disturbing the sight picture but I've seen a lot of students rip the trigger and relax their grip simultaneously. You don't look for the wall shooting double action you just keep the trigger moving till the gun fires. Double action requires you to be a bit more patient and focus longer depending on the precision you need.

@@ostiariusalpha The S&W Models 66/686 are copies of the Taurus Model 66, while the Manhurin 73 is a copy of the S&W Model 19. For reference, Bangor Punta already owned Taurus when they bought S&W in 1965. S&W began production of the Taurus design the following year. From that time well into the mid 1970's, Taurus quality showed marked improvement while S&W suffered from the exchange of workers, tooling and materials. S&W adopted the Taurus transfer bar system in 1997 after Taurus proved over several years to be a superior design. I don't think S&W ever got back to making their revolvers as well as they did before the mid "70's.

Concerning the L-frame S&W Model 686, it and its carbon steel Model 586 brother were introduced in 1981, while Taurus developed their L-frame equivalent in the 90's. Some can do one or more of the above with aplomb while others try to do them all and fail miserably. Sometimes none of it is necessary while other times, when done properly, it adds positive levity to the prose. With all of that said, there is absolutely no such thing as "hilarious sarcasm." It's an oxymoron ... an incongruous or contradictory term that simply does not exist and never will, most certainly in James' case.

In a firearm world oversaturated with polymer, extended magazines, androgynous styling and predictable performance, the MR 73 stands above the crowd. It flexes it's muscles, demonstrates it's strength and flaunts it's beauty. A remarkable handgun in a world of clones.

Not to mention your son can give this to his son, and it'll still probably shoot groups. Not a lot of guns with that level of longevity.

Wow that’s an incredible and beautiful revolver. Honestly $3,000 isn’t a bad price for that. It’s better than a performance center revolver. If I had the extra money I absolutely would add one to my collection.

I have a police surplus MR73. While K frame leather holsters might fit kydex ones don’t. I dabbed some white nail polish on the front sight. Black rear blades against a black front sight against black targets don’t make for an easy sight picture. A little solvent will remove the nail polish if desired. The double action is smooth and the two spring-force adjustments let you dial in the trigger to your liking. It really is a great revolver. Glad I didn’t have to spend that much for it.

Blued or Parkerized? Even with more wear I much prefer Blued. They also had 2-1/2 or 3 inch barrel lengths. Did you get one of those? CF had them for 499. then months later better ones for 550 ( I think) You can chk there site for comments or reviews.

@@lude3645 I bought mine off of gunbroker. It was factory reblued and looks like new. New rubber grips too which help when you shoot 357. $499 from CF, even with worn finish, was a steal for this quality of a revolver.

@@nightyeyes3771 It's really nothing more than personal preference/intended use. I have the 4" barrel which is good enough for the range. Theoretically a longer barrel will be more accurate because of the longer sight radius, and maybe better for range use. I don't intend on carrying this for personal defense, but the revolver is already a heavy, blocky chunk of steel and I wouldn't want the 5.25" barrel for that use.

Honestly I was like 12 years old in the last days of the milsurp market. The only thing I really go to enjoy were the guns my dad bought which were AK clones, Mosins and Mauser bolt guns, and various vintage handguns. All the good milsurp stuff is ridiculous. I could buy two Ruger PC9s or a really nice AR-15 for the price of one M1-carbine.

Saw them in stock and thought they looked really nice but didn’t know anything about them. Ended up researching them a couple days later and quickly realized what they were but by that time they were sold out. Had a small batch of 10 come up for sale a few years later on classic firearms that were gonna go up for sale at a certain time. Hit refresh constantly and all 10 went from available at 11:00 am to sold in a second. Other than that nothing except gun broken 5k MR73s. Would love a beretta import but pretty sure I would be in the dog house forever if I spend 3k on a gun.

I used to pass on used Manurhins all the time because I dismissed them as "yet another" European S&W copy. I was extremely wrong to do so. I had assumed that they were cheap junk like the Spanish-made copies that were all over the place, but that was out of ignorance. As they say, hindsight is 20/20...

Monsieur Martox, Viva la France!! "Lafayette, we are here!". I am of Alsatian descendance and have to educate people about the fighting tradition of France. Many, even the British, think the French, during WWII, just dropped their rifles and ran, when they fought valiantly. The extreme majority of Americans don't know most of WWI was fought in France and Belgium. (I have friends who thought it was fought in England). All the best, your proud American cousin.

@@filster1934 I was in France a few years back. Going back to Germany from Paris Disneyland (yeah, I know), I stopped in a small town in the Champagne region. Took a little walk along a country road into some nearby woods and was surprised to see it littered with dozens of trenches, obviously from WWI, and monuments to the French-German battles fought there. The number of people who died in those battles was astounding--what a waste. The French are a very brave people. And political leaders suck everywhere.

Fantastic video. Made me buy one last year - when I checked the price and have seen it’s cheaper here (Europe) than in USA, I got documentation next day and it was mine the same day. Couple of weeks later it was gone from the shops and they estimate more than one year to get them again. It’s a great firearm and I’m enjoying shooting with it and even competing. Mine is 6” 357.

These have been consistently available in the US for a long time now. For those who want one and don't have access to a Beretta dealer that has them, or want a 3" or 6" barrel instead of the 4" or 5.25" barrels Berettas has, Ken Buch of Kebco LLC has imported these for many years, and still does. His prices are better than Beretta's: $3300 with credit card fee and shipping cost already included, versus Beretta's $3300 MSRP, and in my opinion his import stamp (same spot, smaller and shallower) is much less obtrusive and ugly than Beretta's. He also offers the beautiful walnut target grips as an option, which admittedly don't shoot as well as the rubber Trausch grips (the wood grips lack the beavertail and has a shallower thumb shelf), but damn if they don't look glorious next to the high-polish bluing. Judging from the serial number on TFB's review copy, these might be a big new lot for export (I have S/N HA38xx from mid-2020).
