What you can’t see can hurt you. Emmy winner Elisabeth Moss (Us, Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale) stars in a terrifying modern tale of obsession inspired by Universal’s classic monster character.
Trapped in a violent, controlling relationship with a wealthy and brilliant scientist, Cecilia Kass (Moss) escapes in the dead of night and disappears into hiding, aided by her sister (Harriet Dyer, NBC’s The InBetween), their childhood friend (Aldis Hodge, Straight Outta Compton) and his teenage daughter (Storm Reid, HBO’s Euphoria).
But when Cecilia’s abusive ex (Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House) commits suicide and leaves her a generous portion of his vast fortune, Cecilia suspects his death was a hoax. As a series of eerie coincidences turns lethal, threatening the lives of those she loves, Cecilia’s sanity begins to unravel as she desperately tries to prove that she is being hunted by someone nobody can see.
Jason Blum, our current-day master of the horror genre, produces The Invisible Man for his Blumhouse Productions. The Invisible Man is written, directed and executive produced by Leigh Whannell, one of the original conceivers of the Saw franchise who most recently directed Upgrade and Insidious: Chapter 3.
The film is also produced by Kylie du Fresne (Upgrade, The Sapphires) for Goalpost Pictures. The executive producers are Whannell, Beatriz Sequeira, Charles Layton, Rosemary Blight, Ben Grant, Couper Samuelson and Jeanette Volturno. The Invisible Man is a co-production of Goalpost Pictures Australia and Blumhouse Productions, in association with Nervous Tick, for Universal Pictures.

The "peering around corners to look for him" is not what is happening. Peering around corners to assess an environment that has become a lethal hunting ground where she is the intended prey is what is happening. Human psychology and nervous system response wouldn't change if one were fighting an invisible foe; one would adapt themselves to the environment as keenly as they could precisely because the opponent is invisible, she is trying to increase her chances of gaining whatever edge might be possible to obtain, this is wise strategy. During the Vietnam War the V.C. were often an invisible enemy to the American soldiers. American soldiers on patrol in enemy territory with an invisible foe did the same as her, they moved slowly and cautiously picking up every thing they could from the environment to defend against an often invisible foe and invisible booby traps. Pretty normal behavior. I did it myself once when I had an unseen intruder in my home.

I have just watched this film and I think it is the best version of any of "The Invisible Man " series/films that have gone before. It was good that the actor playing the part of the "figure" was actually "invisible" for almost the whole film. Apart from a few minutes at the beginning and a few minutes at the end of the film we never actually see Oliver Jackson-Cohen. This of course means that for the first time we have a female playing the lead role in The Invisible Man......and what a great performance she puts in too.

And you certainly don't watch a bunch of movie reviews or product advertisement, then clams that become useless or meaningless just because you felt having some many knowledge about it. I definitely wouldn’t consider the plot jaw-dropping, but yea it was a great suspense/thriller. Her performance was good. But do you remember the cops name, the daughter name? Or the invisible man's name? I didn't catch any of em besides the main character. They started the movie in a bed (which should NEVER be done) it's such a cliche. Also the suit didn't work and worked to suit the "scare factor". Also why did she look around so often is she's looking for an INVISIBLE MAN. Also she teleported at the end twice or she invented time travel. This movie was so bad I couldn't get my eyes off of it. It was like it was written by a schizophrenic baby

RilaKOKO i guess the idea of the movie was this was the stereotypical “white, well educated, respected in society, well off male woman abuser” and how if they could do it, they would find a way to prevent ever getting caught and focus constantly on abusing the poor woman victim who fell in love with him. It clearly is a horror movie created for those who have been stalked as women by men, who likely would get PTSD watching this and will avoid it. It most likely will get fans who are studying abnormal psychology and social work with battered women. Just in the premise we see obvious problems with this imagined psycho. If he is NOT actually dead, just invisible, then he needs to sleep, eat, fart, belch, pee, poop, etc. He COULD start to steal food and not be caught, but getting around, this is harder now. I mean you cannot get a bus or taxi to stop, and all your cars and homes are given away to family. You have no credit card or cash anymore to use, to buy transportation or food or a hotel room. You would have to sneak around constantly to just survive. In fact it would become quickly a horror for the man himself, to be so alone, unable to boast, to chat to friends, to be so alone.

@@davidthedeaf yo honestly you are absolutely right. It's not realistic or copable at all. But guess what? Its a movie, realism shouldn't be a first thought, NEVER well unless the actual movie is based on a real event. It just wouldn't be as enjoyable if all the factors were there. First of all, there is no need to complain of realism. Literally the title of the movie should eliminate that thought. We don't have modern tech mixed with bullet resistant cameras, that is light enough to fight and run in, all in complete stealth. IMPOSSIBLE, technology has its limits, and that's a fact. ((FYI im low on energy & sleep. I may have misread your comment but cba to check lol, I may have made grammatical errors but I don't care enough to proof read on a YT comment. I haven't watched the movie yet, just found out about it today. I love it that someone finally came up w/ an actually story to go along w/ the idea of human invisibility. All the other "Invisible Man" movies were about making cool special effects - the story itself was written to do interesting things with filming, that's all. Having been in a terrifyingly abusive relationship I can tell you that for years I felt like he was watching me, following me, hiding like a predator waiting for it's prey to wander close enough. The trailer alone has a hauntingly familiar feeling - giving the abuser invisibility ramps up the terror - it's a genius & logical place to use invisibility to tell a story.

If yes, then why was she mad when she came over later to give her the news? 2. Was cop friend she was staying with just a friend? At first I thought he was her brother in law. 3. Was the invincible suit never brought to question after she exposed the brother wearing? The cops raided the guys home, did they not see his laboratory and realize this guy has better technology than the military?

Perhaps she cleaned the house afterwards with each attempt to unveil the invisibility of Adrian. Besides, the father is a cop, he is aware of such domestic abuse signs and paranoia, so whilst he didn't believe or grasp her story totally there was that assumption of the mind playing tricks due to understandable fears. Like any other cop, he would need time to build a solid case due to evidence whether there is some truth or whether this person is too mentally unfit to be around them. Also there was that period of time which elapsed before she started to get attacked - a sudden change in behavior need examining carefully.

a excellent modern adaptation, of the so chilling classical tale, but this time the interpretation, of that, could be a metaphor of how women very mistreated by their ''husbands'', even separated from them, are still feeling stalked and haunted by their presences psychologically, as if not exist any second of mental peace for them, obviously bringing more tragic consequences to their lives, the way in those themes are played in this film is excellent, one of the most notorious films of the year, with a witty although unseen perspective.

What's hilarious, but in kind of a perverse way, is that upon looking to reinvent the narrative for modern audiences, with the understanding that the original is considered by film canon to be a monster movie, the director realized that within the "Invisible Man" two word concept-title the part that's inherently scary to most people is not the "invisible" part, but the "man" part.

It gives the viewer that extra edge of creepy by influencing the thought of such thing existing amongst us this very moment or at least century. That's what blew my mind the most about this movie! Well, finally after many years, I'm now replacing a movie from my "Top 5 All Time Favorite Movies!" hands down! *If you don't won't to read any spoilers...READ NO FURTHER.* What I think made me love this movie so much was how the Director, writer or whomever (thank you whomever that is) made it happen....to whereas the movie could've split off into at least two different, maybe even three possible timelines. Now, I may be high as hell rn but hear me out okay. Lol, alright, now.....OMG Yoooo. I had to pause for a few minutes to actually watch the trailer and let me tell you something! For the first time in a while, I'm glad I watched a movie before the trailer. There are scenes shown in the trailer that aren't in the final cut of the movie! I'm sure they were moved into the "Extras" on Blu-Ray and what not but that's not my point. Watching that trailer right after the movie was like watching a short of short-film in in-itself. A blast all over again but in one big rush all at once! Phew....alright, back to my original comment. How the movie could've changed into different directions: At one hour, twenty-six minutes, and thirteen seconds into the movie we're at a scene where Cecilia's standing in the shower of her cell within the psych-ward that she has been emitted. She impales her wrist with a fountain pen and begins to slice downward after saying aloud, "You won't get the baby......and you won't get me!"...I hate to interrupt this program but *SPOILER ALERT* again....If Cecilia's boyfriend Adrian hadn't killed that last officer (even though this officer wasn't used or even shown later on in the movie) he could've been a witness to her case (to testify) had she been seized and "captured" again. That being he told the truth (afraid of sounding crazy) and that both the jury and judge believed him...then you have the trails and blah, blah, blah... Okay, so then you also have an alternate route where Cecilia kills Adrian and all, well, most (being as though the use of his brother isn't immediately known yet) of the evidence she'd need to plead innocent in her case would be present and accountable for. Followed by trials and blah..blah..blah....Alright, now stick with me just a bit longer alright......(Ah crap. My high is coming down now and my what I think at least is a "creative writing style", is starting to die down.) But another scene where things could've taken for a turn is at 1:47:57.....this is where Adrian is hinted to be revealing himself to the audience right before the big scene! This announcement was presented in a way that's like a strong undertone. While not quite sitting on the surface level but by subconsciously insinuating that he was indeed the original "Invisible Man". And this is in fact the case as followed by the upcoming scene (The revenge). But what also backs this is up at 1:48:07...."the change in pitch". The sound engineers emphasized Adrian saying, "I mean ugh...that shouldn't come as ugh...SURPRISE." And then the horrifying, heart wrenching laughter followed by tears of rejoice relay that she, "Cecelia", had also picked up on this. In fact, she well may have wished, and hoped for that to be the case as she planned her night ending accordingly. I saw it coming but then again, I really didn't and that too was just great! I could go on an on but I should go. Anyways, there were also scenes in trailer that I mentioned earlier that were shown in the trailer but not in the movie. One, being the hand-print being created on the glass shower door or the pronounced breathing effect being blown next to Cecelia when standing on the front porch of Jame's home as seen here at 1:10 in this video. Man....this is one of those movies that would've been perfect to watch in theaters since you'd have those moments where you'd hear the gasp sounds of a few or even maybe a large group of people picking up on ques within the movie. Or hearing the sounds of potential others expressing the same amount of excitement over the movie as you are! Damn you corona! Anyways it's 2AM. I'm going to take my tired high ass to sleep now. Hopefully this comment is able to be shared and found amusing by others! Also, one tip, (If possible) watch this movie with your volume being comfortably set higher than you normally listen at. I believe this to be a contributing factor to the amount of "immersiveness" that I was doused in while watching this movie.

I just watched the film. It was a bit slow in places, but overall I enjoyed this thriller. I recognised Michael Dorman as Tom Griffin (Adrian's brother), as I am Australian too. Elisabeth Moss is a reliable actress, as she was once again outstanding in this film. I didn't expect that ending, but perhaps I should have.

I appreciated the film's little nod to the original HG Wells book. In one scene you briefly see a hospital patient whose face is completely swathed in bandages. Near the start of the book, the Dr Griffin character also covers his face with bandages to hide the fact that he has become invisible.

SPOILER ALERT. Charles Sheffield wrote a story in 1996 called "The Lady Vanishes" - it was about an invisibility suit. But the movie's credits say H.G. Wells' novel "The Invisible Man" - a novel about an invisibility serum - was it's influence. Charles Sheffield passed away in 2002. This film was released in 2020 so it's understandable how Sheffield's concept would fly under the radar. Charles Sheffield deserves a credit in the film IMO.

She doesn't kill him in that cell scene. The book has him get discovered by the police then he goes on his killing spree as he attempts to evade the authorities. That's obviously the scene where he gets exposed and he kills those two guards to escape. She wounds him and he leaves his blood at the scene, proving he is alive.

@Ayy lmao If you go back and watch the movie you'll notice that the little girl bends her head before sitting next to Cecilia and only gets smacked when she's not directly looking at her. Cecilia was the only person in the room so of course she assumed it was here. Also, the knife only floats in the air for like 3 seconds before Adrain slits the woman's throat. In fact, not even Cecilia notices the floating knife until it's too late and she was sitting right in front of her sister. So why would anyone randomly be watching someone else eating at thier table? Seems pretty nit-picky to me. Also, there were CCTVs capturing what was going on. Even if there weren't any, there were still like a dozen police witnesses. Everyone realized that Ceilia was telling the truth but there was no way of proving that it was Adrian. But I do agree with the unexplained super-strength of Adrian. Then again, if he can afford to make an invisible suit, I'm sure he can afford steroids as well..
