I hope he does OK. I'm pleased he found good foster parents who helped him. The problems young people face when leaving care at eighteen for independence are being faced all over the world. Here in the United Kingdom, where I come from, the same issues are being dealt with by our care leavers.

Has anyone had any experience with aging out of the system and returning to taking care of their parent/relative? I know it would be super overwhelming.

If his mom and aunt had had support before his grandma died maybe he wouldnt have had to losethem. Foster care should always be the last resort.

The military path could leave you with ptsd on top of ptsd. Cptsd. Please be careful. There are people who understand who would be a friend family and give you a sense of support. But you haveto really explore and listen to ypur heart to find it.

People do not do enough to prepare kids to make it out in the world.

Even kids who aren't in the foster care system struggle because parents as a whole don't teach their kids to be self sufficient....they go through school, graduate (maybe), then leave home without a clue as to even the basics of being on their own, having a plan, budgeting, etc.
