I was going to a supposed thyroid "expert". He never once did labs on my Iodine, even though it is closely tied to the thyroid. I went to another Dr who did labs & it came up "none detected". The lab ran it twice to make sure no mistake. Now I tell them to do labs every 6 months & I supplement. I guess we have to be our own medical doctors sometimes.

My disclaimer- I'm not a doctor, this is just from my own experiences. Supplements shouldn't be taken unless you've been tested and have been found to have a deficiency and your doctor tells you to take a particular supplement and how much to take. If they don't advise you on taking anything, ask them about it and also look over your labs and do your own research as I did. Here's my experiences. I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism which is a over active thyroid. I wasn't advised on anything other than having my thyroid removed which wasn't a option for me so I began to do my own research and found out that my thyroid make to much iodine so I changed my diet and stop using/ taking anything with iodine in it. My other experience was having insomnia at night because Hypothyroid makes you very hyper but without proper rest, you get fatigue, so I tried to balance it out by taking a daily B-12 suppliment for energy due to a lack of sleep which definitely gave me more energy than I needed but it showed up very high in my LAB BLOOD WORK so I stopped taking it. Again, I did my own research to try to find out what I could do to settle down in the evening so I found out that many people are lacking in Magnesium so I take it in a powder form at night and it does help me to relax along with adapting a bedtime regimen. The point that I'm trying to make is to know where your are deficient and go from there. Everything isn't for everyone. I hope that this helps someone. 😊

My understanding from a book I read is that Iodine doesn't uptake well into the body via iodized salt. Iodine did uptake well when it was in bread, but then everyone switched to Bromine as a dough conditioner, instead of Iodine. Bromine, Chlorine, Floride and all others in the Hallide family all bind to the same receptors as Iodine, and since those are used so prevalent now, it is a problem because they replace Iodine (or however that works), causing deficiency. The book was called, Iodine: Why You Need It, Why You Can't Live Without It, by David Brownstein, MD.

Until around 1970 Commercial Breads sold in the US had Iodine added as a "dough conditioner". Suddenly a switch was made to BROMINE. Both are in the Halide family of elements, however the body can't use Bromine, it needs Iodone but the Bromine is taken up by the same receptors since the body is seeking something like Iodine and this is the closest thing incoming. What followed? A HUGE EXPLOSION IN THYROID DISEASE, especially in places with little to no iodine in the soil (non-coastal), hence the now infamous "Goiter Belt" of the inner parts of the continent. Not sure why the switch occurred or who was behind it but it had absolutely terrible effects on the health of large numbers of people.

The United States Customs and Border Protection tried to dispel the rumour, stating on its website that "there is no known prohibition on the importation of Vegemite" and "there is no official policy within CBP targeting Vegemite for interception".[68] The story of the "ban" later took on the status of urban legend.[69] While Vegemite has never been popular in the US, it can still be purchased at supermarkets that stock imported food items"

Iodized salt in the U.S. contains 45 micrograms of iodine per gram of salt. The recommended daily intake for adults is 150 micrograms, which can be obtained from about one-half to three-quarters of a teaspoon of table salt. Testing of the general population indicates that most Americans consume sufficient levels of iodine through their diets. Pregnant women and nursing mothers are the only groups in the U.S. that are advised to take a daily iodine supplement, usually as part of a prenatal vitamin. Depending on where you live and how much seafood you eat, you may not want to substitute all of your table salt with sea salt. However, that shouldn’t stop you from using sea salt when you want that particular flavor. Be cautious with the amount, however, as all salt is high in sodium. I am 67. I find if I skip my daily vit/supplement I have a harder time with flow and capacity. The prostrate needs zinc and so does your immune system . Zinc somehow depletes your copper level so that is why I add copper to my daily routine. The thyroid needs iodine along with every cell in your body. Selenium is also used by the thyroid. The thyroid is the organ the rules all other organs so keeping your thyroid happy keep your other organs happy like bladder and prostate. I swear my bladder increases to double its capacity when I take my daily pills and drops. I drop 3 drops into any liquid i might have if front of me be it coffee, water or juice. In water the iodine tastes like you are drinking dust, a very dry taste hence adding it to other liquids. As a side note I found that if I feel a cold/sore throat coming on I take Zicam and while the cold is bad/rough as any cold I have had I find that the cold drops off quickly and the cold is totally gone in 10 days as opposed to the 5 or 6 week the cold would hold on with little coughs. (A warning that too much Zinc can affect your hearing and my have other side effects) I buy iodine drops on Amazon. @12-14$ per bottle when I buy 2 or 3 at a time. A bottle of Iodine drops should last 1 year if you take 3 drops a day. I also find zinc,copper and selenium in a 50mg capsule (240 in a bottle) on Amazon sold by DEAL SUPPLEMENTS.

I have a sister in law who thinks we have too much iodine in our diets and it's in everything and it's bad!!!! I remember in Jr high over 30 years ago a teacher saying how important iodine is, so I always bought salt with iodine!!!! His said if you don't take iodine then you would get a swollen belly like the malnourished children in Africa
@MarySanchez-qk3hp4 күн бұрын
The children with swollen bellies aren’t swollen because of iodine deficiency, it’s because of chronic starvation and kwashiorkor.

@@MarySanchez-qk3hp oh I know that now, I think he was trying to scare us into it , but it worked, it made me make sure not to fall into the fad of the sea salt. But now I'm hearing horrible things about table salt.

I use iodized kosher salt. I don't use Himalayan pink salt because of the radioactive elements in it, like radium, uranium, polonium, plutonium, etc.; not to mention the lead that's in it that keeps me away.

Also pasture raised beef has plenty. Don't need to buy a supplement. You'll notice the difference immediately. Make sure not to over cook. Rare or medium rare is best or raw if you trust the source.
