The hero of Len Deighton's somewhat down-to-earth riposte to Fleming's James Bond adventures actually goes unnamed in the novel The Ipcress File - and accordingly he is never named in this radio adaptation, even though by this time we all think of him by the name he was given in the films: Harry Palmer.
Sadly, this play was a one-off, and there were no further adventures with Ian Hart in the lead - but I thought this would be a good choice to fill the gap left by the end of the James Bond plays I'd been posting until recently...

Brilliant sound design. Just an absolute pleasure. Conveys so much of the atmosphere of the book. It is its own narrative, and the timing with the speaking parts is so perfect.

This is totally spoiled by adverts every five minutes! This is a BBC programme/ production…. SO why the adverts every five minutes

Beyond my control, I'm afraid. This channel isn't monetised, but where a video includes licenced music (as this does) KZbin will insert adverts and send revenue to the licence holder. I get the impression that the more popular a video is, the more adverts they add (and this video is one of the most popular on the channel). The fact of it being a BBC production would only apply if you were watching it on the BBC website I'm afraid. However, there are ways to suppress adverts that you might find it worth your time looking into.

They seem to kick in more frequently the more views a video gets - I'm afraid they're the result of licenced music used in the video rather than any choice on my part (the channel isn't monetized).
