I have the 16 pro max. I upgraded from the 12 pro max. Happy with the upgrade. I only use the camera control button to launch the camera. Once I’m in, I use the touch screen for everything else.

You’re looking at the phone from only one viewpoint, not everyone is obsessed with the camera, for me the battery is amazing, it’s lighting quick, has great speakers and is a very nice upgrade if you’re coming from an older device

Agreed, but the thermals are actually vastly improved too,. I think some of these problems he had with that are iOS 18 problems possibly. 11-13 degrees cooler than 15 Pro with the 16 Pro Max in gaming tests and it beat the S24 Ultra too.

Yeah some of these KZbinrs not including many love telling you how phones are such amazing tools for photos. They are not. For videos is where they're really hitting their stride and in some cases they're starting to embarrass the complexity of cameras. To see what so many can do with iPhones in terms of flexible shooting which trying to do with a big old mirrorless camera and heavy lens is just ridiculous and impractical. iPhone 4K 120 is simply going to flood the market.

This is such a weird take. You’re upgrading from last years iPhone which already had an amazing camera system, and expected to see a HUGE change in camera performance with the 16s?!? ATP it’s clickbait, the entire video is your “issues” with the camera, but if the camera is the only reason why you upgraded then you wasted your money and solely got the phone for views. Also the thermals are vastly improved from the 15 pro series. I’m on the 16 pro all day, watching videos, gaming, taking pics and on ft and it gets slightly warm to the touch, nothing like how my 15 pro max does.

I don't see it that way. The 16 Pro Max beat the S24 Ultra in gaming performance and thermals even. It also runs 11-13 degrees cooler than the 15 Pro in gaming tests. I think this guy has issues that might be related to software optimization causing the problems.

It bins the 48mp to a 24mp image and can also be set to 12mp. The 48mp option is only if you specifically activate it. They also just introduced a new file type for RAW images that reduces the 48mp RAW images to a 46mb file (compared to 80mb uncompressed). This new JPEG-XL works on all the RAW formats down to 12mp, so it's a great tool for anyone wanting to shoot RAW and not use up a ton of storage. The 48mp HEIF files are about 5mb for those that don't need RAW. They give you a ton of shooting options for whatever you are looking to do.

‘We’ don’t need a new hardware version of anything every year. Personally I wish they’d release a new phone every 2-3 years and make the differences between the models significant, rather than iterative. Software updates can come more often if they wish, but generally, other than ironing out bugs, they’re not really needed either.

I passed on the 16 Pro Max because my 15 Pro Max has poor battery life if I actually use it for anything. Just watching this video made my phone get really warm and I could see the battery drain. I refuse to get Apple anymore money when my current new phone is not living up to claims. Why should I let them get away with lying and on top of that give them more money for not very good upgrades? We have reached peak phone anyway, so what is the point?

I returned the 16 pro max, keeping my 15 pro. Display calibration is not excellent on 16 pro models, white balance and delta e is off compared to previous displays. No good for lightroom editing on the go. Ipad pro m4 11" is superb in that regard tho, as well as 15 pro & pro max.

It’s relieving to hear others have question marks on this one. My iPhone 16 Pro Max has been really buggy. The camera crashes, it lags, super hot, and sometimes it won’t even charge. iOS feels like it’s changing for the sake of change rather than improving user accessibility or experience. The interface is no longer intuitive, with a confusing mix of increased customizability and enforced usage patterns. It feels paradoxical; they should either focus on customization or a streamlined experience. I used to appreciate the simplicity of iPhones, but now it feels awkward and poorly designed, lacking enough features for me to tailor it to my needs to compensate for the weird design choices. I never thought I’d consider switching, but I'm thinking about it now. And don’t get me started on the Photos and music app-it feels like a reflection of the entire experience. They’ve fallen out of touch.

What do people expect from a phone nowadays? Other than the front camera being under the display, or these foldables getting thinner and not having a crease, are pretty much the only major improvements we're gonna see in the next decade. If you "upgrade" every year or two, you'll be disappointed. It's not 2010 anymore, phones are made to last at least 4-5 years, and even with the iPhone you can just replace your battery once it's at 80% capacity and you'll easily get another 2-3 years out of it if you want.

He is right the new ones do not seem to offer much value unless you are not ok with the screen size because I find mine quite bulky and heavy with a 6.7 inch display , the 16 pro max is even heavier with a 6.9 inch display - this would be the only reason I would buy the 16 pro as I need something lightweight but I’ve heard I’ll have to compromise on the battery.

I thought it would be a bigger difference I even preferred the weight of old 13 for smooth handheld cinematic moves and the battery isn't also as great as I hoped for. I honestly think that they should just reborn/reboot/revamp (however you want to say it) the iPod Touch and treat it like they do with the iPhone SE; have similar features and software updates like the main iPhones, just enough where it can still be useful. Me as a photographer who uses my iPhone as a DSLR camera 80% of the time, I wouldn’t mind having an updated/upgraded iPod Touch so I can use that as my main camera; don’t need to get interrupted with phone calls that the silent mode and do not disturb mode can’t block. Just give it the camera features of the iPhone 13 Pro, iOS 18 software, center stage functionality of the iPad Pro, MagSafe charging, have a USB-C charging port and I’m good to go. Granted, it’s not going to be the usual $200 price it was before it got axed, but at least for those who don’t want or need to upgrade their iPhone every year they’ll get to save almost 1/3 of their money getting the iPod Touch than they would getting the iPhone. PS: (I know and understand fully as to why they stopped making and selling the iPod Touch, I’m just giving my opinion about it.)

Iphone not updating camera. The iPhone 14 pro had a problem taking some photos and the iPhone fixed it only with the 15. The answer is simple, if it was fixed right away, people wouldn't buy a new iPhone next year because they would take identical photos.

I upgraded to the 16 pro max from the 15 pro max . I agree it is not that different and I wasn’t going to upgrade . The battery was driving me nuts on the 15 pro max I wouldn’t get a full day ever and it would get really hot on me . A lot people said they didn’t have issues with their 15 pro max and I had two of them . The first one gave me issues so i switched to another and I had issues battery sucked and overheated easily . I can’t speak for the 16 pro but the 16 pro max battery is way better . Battery lasts me over 24 hours and it doesn’t get hot . I only upgraded for the battery and it was worh it .

You’re probably having bad battery because the phone is overheating. The 15 Pro overheated at launch, but most of them were fixed with a software update about a month after release.

Regarding the heat , I don’t see the heat coming through the case as a bad thing ( unless it’s burning your hands😊) , what that means is heat is being transferred away from the chipset to the body , and that is what you want. What you need to look at with heat is how it performs, is it throttling ? The 16 series allegedly is a bit more powerful in that it can do more work ( allegedly), so therefore it must generate more heat . I looked at a couple of 16 and 15 photo comparisons, I did also notice surprisingly some of the 15 photos were comparable or even a tad better at times also , that’s a bit weird ay? Is this a hardware thing or a software thing ? If it’s software perhaps an update might improve things a tad ? But yeah , it doesn’t seem like buying a 16 for photography alone is a worthwhile step unless you’re coming from a real oldie.

Could someone justify this ?and others owning the device and own both 14 pro and 15 pro they confirmed that the 16 pro is way dimmer… moreover it was really warm like the 15 pro but never had issues with the 14 pro

Same just got 16 Pro and compared it to my 14 Pro. Screen on my 14 Pro is like 5% brighter with a cooler tone. On the 16 Pro is warmer and somehow dimmed. Image quality: better on my 14 Pro I don't know why, but the 16 Pro makes the image like with a soft filter added. Both are on same settings, 14 Pro sharper and better image overall. 14 Pro better audio quality, not much bass but clearer audio quality tested on different songs.

Check your display settings as the 16 might have its appearance on auto or dark mode and may also have Night Shift on by default. Turn the appearance to light and turn Night Shift off.

When you have the 15 pro max and compare it to the next year model. You probably won’t find much difference between them. This review would be better for someone who is thinking about upgrading from the 15 pro to the 16 pro. Anyone else with an older model might find all these features as improvements. The thing is, and people will dislike me for this simply because it's a niche and Apple's marketing is amazing. But if picture quality is important to you and nothing else, an iPhone is the wrong choice. Both for photo's and video's. Everything that is wrong with smartphone "the smartphone oversharpened and blurry look" can be fixed on Android. Not on iPhone. Granted, stock android is just as bad, but at least it can be fixed. And for video, there's an amazing 2rd party app which lets any Android do 10/12 bit LOG and even RAW video capture. But be careful, I'm used to this and now all the images look like gore to me

My Pixel 7 Pro for example, stock camera has great colours and exposure but the moment you zoom in its unnatural, like any phone. But it can be fixed. You mod the library (basically the image processing pipeline) and you can get results that have more detail (so true detail, not sharpening) than the iPhone's 50MP mode. Plus if you go really deep with some android's you can alter how the sensor works. Think in-sensor HDR to achieve 13+ stops of true dynamic range (in good light) or instead of the sensor binning down from 48 to 12mp by averaging the pixels (thus reducing noise) you can sum the pixels for very impressive low-light capabilities (at the expense of noise, but your sensor becomes 4x more sensitive to light.

The displeasure with the new iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max appears to be quite prevalent.The fact that Apple Intelligence did not launch with the new phones is also highly problematic. I feel like there are too many settings that can have a high impact on image quality at this point to make simple comparisons. Would be useful to get the exact software settings used in all the direct comparisons. I upgraded from a 14 Pro and I'm finding the new camera setting to be a pretty large step up and really enjoying the new features. Stuff like the compressed 48mp RAW options using JPEG-XL is fantastic for those that like shooting RAW. I have my slider set to exposure comp (which I always hated setting on the touchscreen) and it's been useful so far. Battery life on these is also a big step up from the same size 15 Pro. I'm limiting my 16 PM to 90% charge and still ending the day with 30-40%.

Use your index finger for the camera control, after using my iPhone 16 pro for a while it’s easy than using the screen or you can use both, index finger on the control and thumb on the screen, similar to DSLR control

No one is revealing the main issue . In my 13 pro 3x zoom works at 4k . But in 16 pro 5X zoom will work only hd not in 4k

Yea and that’s not even touching on the fact that the ultra wide lens suffers due to over sampling which destroys the image quality in lower light in apple log. My 15 pro max was superior. The only reason I’m keeping 16 pro max is the battery life and better microphones. Other than that the 15 is the better device

Ya there's almost zero difference between 15 pro and 16 pro. The only reason to even upgrade to a 15/16 from older phones is the new Apple Intelligence coming in the next few months with a software update, but you can already use that with your old 15 pro max. Agree on the camera button being a gimmick. Heat can easily be explained by a bigger phone having more surface area to dissipate heat, same for battery life. At the end of the day, I'm not sure what you were expecting. There's nothing wrong with upgrading a phone every year, that's a personal choice, but ya.....

They're the same cameras on both the non max and max, for the 16 series, unlike the 15.

Phone cameras are just that. I’ve taken beautiful photos with my phone cameras over many years of iPhone usage, but the best photos will always be with a real camera. I don’t know why people expect any different. I also don’t know why people feel the need to upgrade their phone to the latest model immediately. If you have an iPhone 15, you really don’t need to go out and get a 16. It’s only one year, the differences will obviously be marginal. You don’t do that with a car, or a computer, But if you’re still using an iPhone X, you’ll likely see a major leap in performance. And if your current phone works how you want/need it to, why upgrade at all? It makes no sense for people to criticise Apple for their own need to consume and show off to others - take responsibility for your own choices. I also believe the overheating issue affecting some new models was resolved via a software update within weeks.

Why not? they fixed the thermals, the GSM Arena review shows it. Some of the issues I think come down to software updates needed for optimization.

You cant compare thermals in these two phone's. The Pro Max's Larger body has more surface area. It will dissapate heat alot faster.

At least with the 16 Pro Max it beat out the 15 Pro Max in thermals. Also one test showed the 15 Pro ran 11-13 hotter than the 16 Pro Max.

Thanks for the video! I am on the same position - returning cause I am very frustrated with the iPhone 16 pro camera! I had many iPhones - the last was the 13 pro! The image is not sharp enough. The biggest problem is photos with text - terrible!! The middle is ok but on the sides are very very terrible! Not focused, with shadow. Anyone else? Regards

Can we just be honest and agree that the “new” camera control button is completely unnecessary. If there was a way to completely disable that button In the settings I would and if a company made a case just covering that button I would also buy it lol. This camera button will probably be In the next iPhone and maybe even in the 18 but I’m sure it will get scrapped after that.

No body tell many to try out the S24U because he will never go back to apple. With apple having RSC on iphones with ios18 and the apps getting better updates and optimization on galaxy the blurr line between apple and android only comes down to which phone you want and with apple selling you the same phone every year, that decision is a no brainer. What were you expecting? Lol btw iphone 15 pro max was taking bad pics out of the box and just got better after a few camera updates. I used the iphone 15 pro max for a year and i know that iphone 16 pro max takes better picts out of the box compared to the iphone 15 pro max out of the box. I actually loe the camera control foe the exposure and focus only, not for zoom. Also great to launch the camera with one hand. Bur shooting and zoom you need to use the screen

It will eventually get a lot better I think. The initial iOS releases are always sloppy.
