What I enjoy about PHT videos is their calmness. Most Mac/iOS KZbin videos are full of crazy After Effects and a host who is on their 3rd Red Bull with the classic "hi guys!" start. It's like they are still following the 2010 rules for KZbin engagement (which never worked anyway).

While AI is important to many who are in the bracket that can keep up with hardware required. I think you need to do an article focused on the new iOS 18 for the average user would be a hit! There have been a lot of updates but the AI takes over from the basic IOS 18 in most articles available. 😊

Well large language models if they run together basically it’s called Inference, so it requires huge memory bandwidth and best neural engine processing where only a few chips like Silicone ones & A17pro and 8gigs minimum memory to handle the requests in a least time possible as the user expects.

And iPhone 16 (most likely all models) and any iPad or Mac with an M series chip. The older Bionic chips don’t have powerful enough CPU/GPU in their chips.

Nope, nothing image related at this time. I think it's the part Apple is most concerned about getting wrong (especially in an election year, where AI will definitely be used for misinformation purposes)

Yes. If you currently have any subscription through your Apple ID, you’ll have to cancel them first, wait for them to expire and then be able to change the country, but then all your future purchases will require a USA address and credit card in US$. It’s not worth the hassle. Plus I do believe you can use Beta 15.1 in Canada as long you have the language set to US English.

@@tiagomaqz ot really true. This does not happen when you change region. I have a few subscriptions on my devices and changing regions does nothing with them. You can also be logged in to iOS with one Apple-ID and in App Store with another Apple-ID to not mess with your apps and subscriptions.

I’m one who’s always looking for new and shiny. Agreed - this is so far underwhelming, but it *IS* an early beta. Apple almost always starts slow and gradually tweaks, upgrades and adds. I wouldn’t expect anything too exciting at this stage. Good video though - I always enjoy your stuff, whether it’s a deep dive or something off the cuff.

It’s available worldwide except in the EU and China, as long as your phone is set to US English.

Great video mate , on the benefits of AI for average people , clearly it has some benefits , from my perspective though as just a bloke that uses his phone pretty much mostly basic stuff , the very occasional email , a bit of you tube , web browsing , maybe navigation occasionally, step counting when I go for a walk , the odd phone call , in all honesty , it doesn't really seem like a life changer for me , though certainly some of the AI tools would be handy without a doubt. I still have my 14 pro max which still works fine and i think has a good couple of years life left in it , im just not feeling compelled to buy a new phone for considerable expense just for the extra AI function . Maybe that view will change if something really takes my fancy😊 , for me im happy to use my oldie for until something grabs me. Thanks for your videos mate.

I changed the region & language to English US after the update however it still shows (Apple Intelligence is not currently available in your country or region.) .. tried restarting device couple of times but not resolved yet, any ideas?

Change it in both the Siri Apple Intelligence screen of Settings, AND the Language/Region page. Also, what region are you actually in?

It won’t work as it does access your geolocation will cause a conflict. A VPN might work but it’s not worth the hassle as all your future purchases will be in US$.

I’m in the EU and I don’t have an iPhone 15 pro, but I do have an M1 iPad Pro. It got offered the 18.1 update and I installed it. I changed region and language for Siri as well as display language but do get a message saying Apple intelligence isn’t available in your region. BUT doing the same on an M1 Mac works for some reason with the macOS 15.1 update. Not sure what the reason for it is though. The UK famously isn’t in the EU anymore so there it apparently works just changing region and language in iOS / iPadOS. As a side note I was recently in the UK on holiday and due to the over all slow and spotty internet connection there I got to see the satellite sos symbol as well as getting my Apple Pay card set to express card for public transit. Features not available where I live. So the Apple ID itself doesn’t seem to matter.

You need an Apple ID that is located in the USA. For that you need a US phone number and credit card.

@@RogierYou not true. I have an American Apple-ID since many years but no American credit card. I don’t want to go through the hasssle to change Apple-ID on my device for this but as I said, my non American Apple-ID works just fine accessing Apple intelligence features on my Mx Mac with Seqoia 15.1 beta. Why this discrepancy exist i don’t know. I joined the queue and within minutes I got access to Apple intelligence on my Mac but not on my iPad.

Mm, seems underwhelming because it’s largely geared towards business use. Conversion of speech to text would be pretty useful to me though, as I like making audio notes to capture thoughts and ideas.

Already have speech to text in iOS 18 - that’s a feature that doesn’t depend on Apple Intelligence, so it’s available in quite a few older devices as well. Check out transcripts in Voice Memos.

I have installed Mac OS 15.1 on my Mac Mini and I have the same sense of underwhelm but using it to redo a book I used AI to generate recently I am impressed by the professional writing tool as makes the quality of the writing just a bit more higher than before. I am slightly concerned about how this tech is going to affect education in the immediate future with Secondary, further and higher education specifically as my brother is a University lecturer and I can see how this tool will slant the playing field towards the tech savvy and moderately well off student. I am based in Aberdeen Scotland by the way and this comment was written with my own organic intelligence. 🤓

Only have it on 1 device and going forward since this isn’t really anyone asked for I will not upgrade past my iPhone 14. My iPad has 18.1 and will test it out however after using other AI products it is all junk and in my view still in alpha stage. Just don’t want or need it.

I’ll agree with you that other artificial intelligence products have largely been junk, since they’ve all been cloud service based chatbots. That’s not what Apple Intelligence is. We’ve only seen 5% of what it will bring - being fully integrated into the OS and available in every app - not to mention all the capabilities that apps will expose via App Intents etc. Unfortunately, OpenAI has gotten people into a mindset where they think “AI” means their chatbot. It doesn’t. We’re at the start of some really exciting times.

Give it some time for developers to add it into their apps. Remember, this is the first beta, which is all about providing the APIs for developers to build on - although they did include some amazing user facing things. For instance, the “create a memory” feature in Photos.
