In this video, Professor Abbas Milani discusses Iran and the Iranian Revolution, noting the influence of Iran regionally and in the United States, the significance and impact of the Iranian Revolution, and the Iranian Revolution’s causes and effects. He also emphasizes the fight for democracy throughout Iran’s history of revolutions and today.
Abbas Milani is the Director of the Hamid and Christina Moghadam Program in Iranian Studies at Stanford University, an Adjunct Professor, and co-director of the Iran Democracy Project and a research fellow at the Hoover Institution.

republic means democratic state but if it is based on certain ideology then it cannot run through just majoritarianism and should have some institutions to protect its ideology. so how would you say Iran is not a democratic . just to know your clarification

With much respect, Mr. Milani, Persians shouldn't use the word salam for greeting. That is an Arabic word. You are a scholar and should be more careful in the usage of Persian words. I am sure the word for greeting is 'dorood; and the word for goodbye is 'bedorood' and not khoda hafez Am I mistaken?

Poor Ferdowsi - were he to be alive - would be shocked to hear that after the passage of so many centuries, there still are such ignorant people like you. Instead of talking trash, get educated. By education you should not mistake it for a degree from a learning institution - if you are capable of understanding what I mean - which is doubtful you do. Vaccine for ignorance is proper education combined with culture.

There are words like ghaza, which means camel urine, Salam is excepting that you are aslave, and you paid a tax, or you wore a medalian, u were ok, if not you could be lashed by any one. Which part of islam should people eccept, that they were from the begining to the end All murderes, rapists, as now iran govt. Is. Our iranian women are being sold to the arab countris ,as seigha, lets be frank its simply clear, ITS ISLAMIC PROSTITUTION. Iran was the 5th most power ful country on earth, all the arab bedwins kissed the hand and shoulder of the king, it kept peace in the middle east for agood 40 years, our toman, 7 for exchange to 1 $ USA. Now islamic govt. 40,000 toman to 1us $. Islam was to bring togather the bedwins, who lived on grsshoppers, and lizardz, not to take the religion of god by murdering and forcing islam down their throats by force, as chegiz khan did it. Pls wake up, which countries were the force behind removing the shah? USA , BRITIN ,FRANCE , EACH HAD REASONS , NOW KNOWNBY ALL. SO EACH AND EVERY ONE GO " INVESTIGATE FOR YOUR SELVES. THE MURDERS IN THE NAME OF "GOD " THE MERCIFUL ,ONLY IN THE LAST 6 MONTHS HAS CROSSED 650 HUMAN LIVES I HAVE NOT FOUND ANY WHERE IN THE QUARAN WHERE YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO TAKE A LIFE. Hello. If Democracy is what is meant in greek, how will iranians of post Shariat deal with the bahai aspiration of a bahai shariatollah and considering that according to Bahá'u'lláh, islamic shiah Shariatollah is the light of the world: red by yourself: The Holy Law (Sharí`ah) of the Messenger of God may be likened to an ocean from which innumerable gulfs branch out. And this is the cause of the weakness of the Sharí`ah of God among the peoples. Until now no-one, not kings nor subjects nor the indigent have understood the reason for this, nor have they appreciated how to regain that power that has vanished and the learning that has fallen away. Thus one gulf is Shí`a, one gulf is Sunni, one Shaykhi, another Shah Ni`matulláhí, one Naqshbandi, another Malámatí, one Jalálí, another Rifá`í, and yet another Khárábátí. Thus are multiplied the innumerable pathways to hell. Thus do the stones weep and the Pen of the All-High laments. Seest thou what has befallen a Sharí`ah whose light illumined the world and whose fire, [that is to say the fire of its love] (not in original persian text and is Momen adding) was the guide of its peoples. Well is it with those who ponder upon these matters and investigate then and are fair in their judgement. Thus did this difference in public rituals become the cause of the shaking of the foundations of the Cause of God (Bahá'u'lláh unpublished)
