I was a single mom w/3 kids and traveled to Ireland w/a girlfriend for $300 ( 10 days). My flight was $500 but we stayed in Hostels, ate at gas stations, pubs, markets etc. Traveling to me is not about tours, dinners at fancy restaurants, hotels, souvenirs but experiencing the local culture.

Shouldn't every Princess have her own castle Alex? Actor's were in great form based on what you did show and interesting fact about the barber pole. As to your becoming more interested in history thats a good thing. Noticed the one guide putting her hand between peoples head and entrance arcway so they didn't bump their heads. Lot of going on in Dalkey it would seem. Enjoy this a lot, as always best to you and yours and scritches for Miss Millie.

I would love something like this. Here in Calgary, Canada, we have Heritage Park which shows visitors what it was like to live in homesteading days. And the staff also dress in period dress too, though they are not as talkative. And the advantage at Dalkey Castle is you actually have guided tours. I'm jealous. I would love to visit an Irish castle.

This is a great video,I want to marry your tour guide. Any chance of that matrimony happening? History is everything. I am an American mudlark,I travel to London,and at low tides,I walk the foreshore of the River Thames. I have found things that would blow your mind! A tiny white clay tobacco pipe from about 1610,a Roman era floor tile,that,when being made,a dog stepped on it! That’s a superb find,the envy of my fellow mudlarks! And also,another tobacco pipe,this one has a beautiful little Irish harp on it. I gave it to my mom,as her husband,Daniel Duffy,who passed away,deserves to have it in his home,as a tribute to a great man.

The tour guide said that the Yew trees were very important in Dalkey. But I did not hear what that was. Was it that the archer used the branches for bows to shoot their arrows? Or was it because they grew so tall and that was important for some reason? I'm asking because I am giving a talk on cemeteries and graveyards and I thought it was interesting that they specifically planeted yew trees. Thanks for posting this.

I love how everyone continues to spell it 'Dalkey' when the sign clearly says "Dalk-Ei" right there, written so pretty. (And, boy-oh-boy! would I love to get a proper good linguistic breakdown of that phrase, starting with what the gaelic words mean and finishing with what the entire phrase or name means.) I don't recall if I mentioned this to you or not. I recently learned thru Ancestry that I have Irish roots. I guess that comedian was right about how the Irish have shagged (or been shagged by) pretty-much everybody everywhere. I certainly know that my 2x-great-grandfather got hisself a Irish gal and married her proper and raised a passel o' kids. If ye happen to know anyone by the name of Harnett (or Hartnett), give 'em a whack on the shoulder and maybe yell something coarse, perverse and obnoxious at them for me. No need to explain. Just tell 'em it's from family. Distant family. And a Yank.
@Clisare
@Clisare Жыл бұрын
From the Dalkey Castle website: The name Dalkey comes from the Old Irish Name for Dalkey Island, ‘Deilg Inis’ which means ‘Thorn Island’. This was later changed to Deilg-ei by the Vikings, Dalk-ei by the Normans and later anglicised to Dalkey. So therefore it would make no sense to call it Dalk-Ei over everything else. I’m just giving snippets of that part of the tour to avoid giving it all away so don’t take conclusions from snippets! Also imagine I did that. I don’t know any Harnetts but that would be a really weird thing to do even if I did 😂
@OhPervyOne
@OhPervyOne Жыл бұрын
That's fascinating, @@Clisare Thank you! How is 'Inis' pronounced? Is it like 'Inisfree'? Anywho, your snippets are appreciated. I tried to think of a way to make a joke with 'persnippety' in it, but I've failed. Ah, well.
