Everything I know about Irish history comes from you two! Understanding that Ireland borrowed or inherited most of their political understanding and forms from England, was there ever a time in writing their constitution where the Irish considered putting in a provision like the US Second Amendment?
@TheBluHerring9 ай бұрын
After independence, the new Irish Free State took many of its laws from our former occupier (Britain) and nothing much has changed since. As a very small nation, born out of guerilla warfare, something similar to the 2nd Amendment would have actually made some sense. Or even an armed civilian militia in the same vain as Switzerland.

My family were on both sides during the Civil War, my grandfather was a virulent Anti-Treaty man and anti-Home Rule as well. He (and his three brothers) had fought through and survived WW1 in the British Army (South Irish Horse). My grandmother (his wife) was Pro-Treaty. As a kid I had Kevin Barrys exercise bicycle in the garden at home..... My grandfathers cousin was William Mellows - served with a descendent of his in the FCA/RDF by the name of Shay Lennon ....

You should do more in the weeds interviews/podcasts like this. Anything from history to culture to the GWOT, anything you want to talk about really. I think historic battles with academic experts in particular would be amazing (almost like the channel WW2TV but with the operational outlook from kevin). The guest can bring the bulk but kevin adds a unique perspective. I personally enjoy when kevin gets into the nitty gritty details of what ever he's talking about. And he doesn't mince his words. Tells it like it is, and we need more of that these days!

64 countries drive on the Irish side of the road. A good trick when you go back and forward is to always keep the passanger seat closest to the sidewalk... if it's in the centre of the road, you are on the wrong side of the road.

Childers was tried and found guilty of possession of a firearm, the punishment of which was death by firing squad (which is what happened). The pistol he was caught with had been a present to him from Michael Collins

Purely talking about official executions They were all by firing squad as far as I know and after a military court (tribunal), hence official. Fact glossed over, there was more official executions by the Free State of Irish people in 1 year, than there was of the British during the 3 years of the War of Independence
