These Irish deep dives are excellent. I’m an American but I am fascinated by the famine to recent era struggles for independence and a United ireland. I’d love to see a dedicated reading list video for deeper reading. You hit on books in the podcast but quickly and peppered in, so it’s hard to find later after I’m somewhere I can jot them down.

I read Tom Barry's book in my teens while living near Newry in the 70's. His book was popular in Newry at the time. The Crossbarry "battle" was epic, an amazing example of a natural leader demonstrating extreme tactical awareness. Moving, communicating and countering opposing forces with ease. He was 60 years ahead of his time. Genius and inspirational.

Also what Republicans dont like to accept is that Tom Barry failed an entrance exam for a position in India with the Colonial Office in 1920. Barry fies not mention this in his much lauded memoir and neither does his devoted biographer Meda Ryan. If he passed look how different the conflict would be in West Cork.

The information from these videos is very interesting to me. One of my Great Grandparents came to Boston from County Galway in 1911. He was one of 11 children. He and two of his Brothers came over together. I can barely imagine what life must have been like for them. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge. Slainte!

I really enjoy these history lessons. In April 1921, the Essex Reg. burned the family home in Castleventry. My grandfather, Dan Santry had already emigrated to the US, but his brother still lived in the house at the time. Interesting to learn more about the events in Cork during the war.

The leader. Michael Collins, born in Cork - his courage, intelligence played a big part in getting the British army out of Ireland but unfortunately he was double crossed often by Eamon De Valera who apparently was a Btitshh spy. hence Collins murdered at a young age despite all his good work. The British apparently been looting, genociding in Ireland since the 13th century at least - ie before the British (royals) thad the technology & more recently, the US military to help them to loot the whole planet - currently the Middle East where they helped create Israel. Genocide used often by the British ie majes it easier to steal tge land & anything of value. As a child, I was taken to a to a memorial service for Michael Collins held outdoors where he is buried in beautiful Beal na Blaith ( there is a v good chance I have misspelt the name of that beautiful place.) I cannot remember all of it but seem to recall there were hundreds of people at least there. Decades ago. Tragic the Ireland now owned, likecUK and MSN coubtries by the globalist World Economic Forum this corporation headed by UK royals and openly says depopulation of billions necessary..

Thankyou guys again, loved it as always. I agree about when your young you dont pay enough attention to history , but when your people die, you wished you'd paid more attention. The talk of Co. Cork was good to hear. My dad never made it to Ireland, but he never stopped dreaming about it. If God give me a chance id love to see it. My dad used to say that there were several Driscolls in the 3rd West Cork. If i remember right one of them was tortured by the english. There's a movie my dad had called Broken Harvest about bad blood between neighbors from both sides of civil war..i rented Black 47 from local library last year. Its about the famine & an Irish Afghanistan vet that started fighting the british. Want more Irish chats, please & thankyou both. Wish my dad was alive to hear this. God bless

Florrie O'Donoghue was the Intelligence Officer for the West Cork Brigade. He had a contact in the Victoria Barracks a receptionist who passed information to him. Interestingly she approached the IRA to rescue her children from their grandparents in England who had seized the children when her husband died and she wanted to return to Ireland. she paid them back well.

I'm half way through a bio on Charles Stewart Parnell, a leader in the land reform movement you guys may be familiar with. This was back in the 1880's. Irish history is really interesting. The people went through some very tough times. These people are survivors, we in the USA need to pay attention.

As a 10yr old boy moving to England in 1966, it was a part of life. Just prior to moving to England spent 3yrs in the Philippines, terrorists were at work there. Coming to England continued a very common story to a young boy. Thanks for your education USMC Semper Fi

theres some pretty grounded theories that say the celts were legitimately the first peoples to fully explore the world, almost every single ethnicity, culture, or group of people from ancient, ancient times speak of fair skinned, brown and coppered hair people COMING to there lands, not those people's going to ireland. all the way from the america's to africa. and were talking 1000's of yrs ago, basically just after the ice age ended. plus the temple city of orkney in scotland said to be 6000-12,000 yrs old. and the ancient scottish city that travels underground ALL THE WAY TO TURKEY!!!!!. shits wild.

🍻Great episode, and please do more like it. I too wish there were more good movies about the fight for an independent and united Ireland. Unfortunately it's a long fight and a very ugly one on both sides. That doesn't lend itself to feel good movies for mass consumption. "The Wind That Shakes The Barley" is a great movie, and not one to watch if you're looking for a feel good celebration of the cause.

I would like to ask a question (or make a request) I would like information on the quote or order "Our uniform will be that of the man in the street, the peasant in the field" This quote is attributed to Michael Collins (in the famous film by Neil Jordan) but I am positive that I saw this mentioned in an article as coming down as an order or directive from the IRA, but now I can't find the article! I thought I had saved it as a PDF but I can't find it among the MANY articles I saved on the Irish War of Independence. Any help on a positive source on this quote would be greatly appreciated. The 2-worst bombings during the Troubles, were in Dublin and Dundalk done by the Protestant Extremist Group the UVF in conjunction with British Army Intelligence. Hundreds of Irish Civilians were injured and killed at rush hour going home from work. British Terror in Ireland has a long, long history.
