This is from the 1995 video "The Irish Rovers - Alive and Well". The is the ONLY song I am EVER posting from this video, as it is still available through www.IrishRovers.info. This is my favorite song by Jimmy Ferguson and I think this is a great version. A tribute to "Big" Jimmy...you are sorely missed. The only bad part is that this was filmed after Will Millar left the band.
I have more information about the Irish Rovers at www.theballadeers.com

In 1967, my parents owned the Irish Rovers album. My mother explained to me what this song meant, I was 13 at the time. Now, as I listen to it with mature ears, I delight in the lyrics and humor of this song. I so wish I could have seen these adorable men perform in person.

I had the same experience in maybe 1980 or so. Even as far as Canada we couldn't escape news of the troubles on the news, and at least for us, the implication that there was a clear "good" side, Rue Britania and God Save the Queen! and a "bad and evil" side...those bloody Fenian IRA terrorist bastards.

@@pamfeinstein8742 The melody was first heard in the Irish rebel song The Rising of the Moon in 1798. It is, as you mention, the melody for Wearing of the Green and during the American civil war, the Confederacy wrote lyrics for The Wearing of the Gray. My Great-grandpa was Irish, Great-grandma a Scot, and Grandpa said this song described their marriage.

I miss my youth with all the Irish family. St Patrick's day was a big party. This song was a favorite of mine. My grandmother from Portadown Armagh. And my great grandma from my father's side. A lot of Irish blood. My brother and sister both could dance, jig, reel,. As well as family and friends. All day was music, dancing, good food and of course plenty of alcohol consumption. And from as young as I remember. That's how it was. Im only 62 and most all my spirited Irish family are gone. So I really miss it come March 17th. My kid's didn't get as big a dose. But I instilled the Irish. And continue with my grandkids. I hope someday to make it there. I know I still have relative's. Falloon,Fallon. Some spelled it either way. Anyway Happy StPatricks day to you all. Here's to the Irish🇮🇪☘️💚

Jimmy had a great voice and a fun way of presenting the music. I was lucky enough to see a performance he was in years ago when I was very young. At the time, I didn't want to go being young and a kid, I didn't know any better. But my mother loved ireland, so she forced all the kids to go along. So we all went and had a great time. Every time I hear the Rovers now, it reminds me of my mother. I hope she is doing well, wherever she may be.

We've been asked if the personal photos we have of some of the missing British Intelligence Agent's came with the book. No, that's why they are personal photos!! Look up Photos Prince Philip 1976. My husband looks like the chap on the left!! I found out yesterday that I have the same blood type as John F Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe & Sir Michael Jagger among others.. I hope someone will help you with getting an Irish Passport. We've been trying to get to the UK, but when we get close to the Border we get detained & questioned by police. We've been held at gun point & threatened to be shot by police in the same area where an Australian woman was murdered by police in the United States. We were threatened to be jailed for Trespassing for parking in a parking lot 4 miles from the Canadian Border. It's worse than that. I made my husband promise that we won't die in the Country that we worked for & my children were kidnapped in. He has never broken a promise & if he breaks this one it will be his first & last because it will mean that we've perished in the United States

@@virginiashapiro1180 Hi, Virginia! That is so cool! I have been a fan of the Irish ROVERS since I first heard the UNICORN SONG WAY BACK IN 1968! I WAS ABOUT 14 YEARS OLD BACK THEN. LATER, I SAW THE IRISH ROVERS IN CONCERT IN THE EARLY 198O'S. MY SISTER IN LAW WAS ALSO A FAN OF THEM. TODAY I STILL HAVE A COUPLE OF THEIR SONGS ON MY PLAYLIST! YOU MIGHT WANT TO CHECK OUT YOU TUBE FOR THEIR SONGS. TAKE CARE! R.K. 3/18/2022.

Something about the penny-whistle just gets me stirred up....I'm of Scots descent,so pipes just get me emotional. Add to that the fact I'm Kiwi-born,brought up with the powerful & primal haka,I think it speaks to that Celtic gene that Irish music moves me so much....also,the Irish Rovers were my first live band at age 8,you never forget your first😂
