Been waiting all video for that at the end😅 I’ve heard and seen many people had that problem with a swimskin, so I might be slower than just a trisuit 😂 I live in Asia and all swims are non wetsuit, any recommendations Patrick? I’ll try not to throw mine in the bin 😂

I feel your watch malfunction. Before Ironman Copenhagen I bought a Wahoo Rival. It does "touchless transitions" meaning it detects when you transition and changes for you. Also it links to the Elemnt Roam bike computer and shows the data on the computer during the ride. Unfortunately I got a flat at 75k on the bike. I had a spare so I changed it but the watch thought I had transitioned. When I got back on the bike, it figured it out and went back. 5 minutes later the tire was flat again! (maybe I messed up the change) but I had no more spare tube. A bike mechanic came around on a motorcycle, but she had no more tubes. I started walking, in about 5km I met another guy with a flat and waited with him until another bike mechanic came around with a tube. All of this took more than an hour, which of course totally fucked up my flow. When I got back on the bike, the watch thought I had transitioned and started my run. All I could do was turn off the bike computer so at least I had power and speed data on the ride, and some idea of progress. When I started the run my watch thought I was 105km into the run already plus it wasn't giving me any accurate pace data or anything. My head was totally messed up the whole run until I talked to a guy around 39km and he made me realize I had already made it and I should be having fun and proud. I though, "yeah, WTF is wrong with me?" so I just floored it for the last 3km. Anyway, I went tubeless.

Man, hearing your story made me relive the moments of that incredible day, which for me was also a transformational life event... Not the day itself, but what going through that day and prepping for it really meant. Thank you so much for sharing all of this ❤

Another amazingly honest and open synopsis of an epic day……although most will never experience the thrill of participating in an Ironman World Championship race, you provide viewers with a tremendous and exhilarating recap that gives the feeling of actually being there. Thanks for your willingness to share such a life-changing personal moment!!!

Hi, Patrick. Imo it's just very hard and hilly bike that got you in depleated state. You should be proud of yourself for sure, it was epic! Request for incoming video about continuous glucose monitor, how you use it, why, what do you track. Should level be low, high, in the range, what helps, etc.

The finish line etiquette is a huge point. Someone did the exact same flag stunt to me on my FIRST IM finish. No photo

Thank you for taking the time to share your story with all of us, excellent presentation, very inspirational and honest. Very commendable that you were able to complete this Iron Man with no injuries. Did you retrieve your swimskin from the garbage bin after the race? Hope so! Best wishes for all your future adventures.

Hi Pat! In your opinion..if I had done less intensity, polarized more by increasing volume to low intensity would it have been different? What would you have changed in the preparation? Also talking about stretching/strength or other “extra” practices

I have to say this video is just AMAZING! This level of detailed documentation gives me, who is currently preparing for my first IM myself in Austria 2024, a huge peace of mind! (gonna revisit this a few times to make notes) - Great results as well! - Congratulations!

Hahha! The even funnier thing was the expression on the faces of the volunteers, who were looking at me rummaging through the bin at bike checkout, and then seeing me re-emerge with a big grin on my face and the swim skin in my hand 😂

finish line etiquette should be in the brifeing! this year in lathi wc happened the same to me… I gave space to guy in front, but he decided to stay put under the arch for good 15 sec. photo ruined

Qualify next year and go to Kona!
@PatrickDelorenzi Жыл бұрын
Hi! It’s going to be exceptionally hard to qualify next year as 1600 of the slots have already been given out, leaving only 800 spread out across all the races of the year. This means having to come first or max second in your age group, Which in Europe means a 8:30-8:45 time which is not doable for me in one year to make so much improvement. I will train up to 2026 when all the slots will be back, and try and qualify then!

Wish I'd followed the advice of not buying merch until you cross the line , instead of ending up with 140 euros worth of stuff for a race I DNF'd 😂 Amazing Video again Patrick and incredible story telling 🙌🏻
